When: Morning
What: Piper’s trying to use magic to get her sister back
Rating: A for Angst?

She’d been at it all night, and was nearly hoarse from her efforts. For most of the night, she’d been pouring over a map of Lawrence, a larger map of Kansas, a map of the country, and even a world atlas, scrying for her sister. Whatever whoever had taken Prue had done, they were somehow able to counter Piper’s powers. She needed the power of three, or at least a connection to her ancestors, but neither were available, here. Now she stood at the counter, dropping a pinch of various herbs into a silver mortar, trying her spells one more time. She had performed these spells so often that she didn’t need the Book, not now.

As she picked up the pestle and started to grind, Piper cleared her throat, and began to speak, “Power of the witches rise, course unseen across the skies. Come to us who call you near, come to us and settle here.” She paused in her grinding to pick up an athame, pricking her finger and letting a few drops fall onto the mixture, then continued, “Blood to blood, I summon thee. Blood to blood, return to me.” Piper closed her eyes for a moment, praying to whoever might be listening that it would work. When she reopened her eyes, she sighed at the empty room. Closing her eyes a second time, she tried the spell she had come up with herself, when her sister had died.

“In this place and in this hour, I call upon the Ancient Power. Bring back my sister. Bring back the Power of Three.” Another sigh escaped as her eyes reopened and the room was still empty. Her gaze shifted to the candles that sat grouped together on the table, and she considered them for a moment, then shook her head.

“No. She’s not dead.” Piper was certain she would know if Prue was dead. She knew her sister was alive.

Sitting on the floor in the middle of the apartment's small living room, hands resting on his knees and eyes closed, Leo looked calmer than he felt. It wasn't the first time since he'd received Piper's text that he had tried to sense Prue. Each time he tried to stretch a little more, trying to pick up on his sister-in-law and charge. Something wasn't right, aside from the obvious. He couldn't sense her but it felt more like he was unable to connect. The only clear presence he could sense was Piper's and she hadn't moved from the kitchen.

Opening his eyes, he ran his hands through his short brown hair and stared blankly at the wall. Aside from using his Whitelighter abilities to help try and find Prue, he'd gone out to look. Neither was yielding any results and he had hoped Piper would have better luck. If what he was picking up on was anything to go by, she hadn't. Something had happened to Prue and not knowing what was hard. Twice as much for Piper, he could imagine. Not only was it her sister, but a sister she had lost, only just slightly ahead in a future Leo had been pulled away from.

Rising to his feet, he left the apartment and headed down the stairs towards the kitchen. He hesitated in the doorway, his wife in the middle of a spell. Leo leaned against the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, waiting patiently. As she finished, he waited for a sign that the spell had worked, but none came. "She's not," he said quietly, pushing away from the door frame. "We'll find her." He stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her and resting his chin on her shoulder.
