"That sounds negotiable," Sam agreed, nodding. They didn't need to be labeled. For a pair so unique, there really didn't seem to be a word out there that could appropriately define who they were. Besides, getting attached to names like that would increase the chance of Sam accidentally slipping up. Dubbing that he already had a lover or a girlfriend or whatever in public or even accidentally in front of Dean would really complicate matters.
Brow furrowed, Sam shook his head. "We can't ever be who we are together in front of other people and that - I didn't think it would bother me that much. I always figured that it didn't matter and it doesn't, but there are still moments like these where I wish I could take you everywhere with me and just..." He rubbed at the back of his neck. "I can't help but wonder how things would be if we could actually be us. To them."
He felt sort of stupid admitting that. Sam groaned and skated over to the railing to grip at it with both hands. He leaned against it and stared out across the groups that were milling their way in and out of the building. Couples. All happy and openly in love, cheerfully making their way out of the building with their friends and family in tow. "I guess maybe that's why doing the hunting thing for a while is vital. Keep Dean from getting more suspicious than he already has been."
Sam went quiet for a brief while. He soon after looked over at Ruby with a faint frown. "I wish people could see you the way that I do."
