WHO: Sam & Ruby. WHAT: One last night before the Winchesters hit the road. WHEN: Evening. WHERE: Ice skating rink. RATING: High.
Out of all the things that Sam could have suggested, it had to be this. Skating. On ice. It had seemed like a perfectly nice idea at the time; something new, something to remember. After all, it was Sam's last night in Lawrence for a good while and he wanted to make sure that it wasn't forgotten. Not the city in itself, because Sam was more than happy to be rid of it, but the person in which he was spending that night with. He didn't want to forget his time here with her. This was the place where he had grown closer to Ruby than ever before and, because of that, Sam knew that as soon as he and Dean took off in the morning he was going to miss it. He never thought that he actually would miss the place where his mother had been burned to death, but Ruby somehow had managed to make all of his time here more tolerable than Sam would have ever expected.
She'd be gone tomorrow. He wouldn't be able to sneak off to visit her because she was living a few miles off. From now on, their conversations face to face would likely be a lot more limited. It'd be calls and texts. Texts and calls. Hooray. It was weird being so concerned about all that, since Sam had never felt this attached to Ruby before recently. He had been able to take off easily before. But now...
Sam glanced up from the skate he was trying to strap onto his foot and looked over at Ruby. If it wasn't for the mission, he wouldn't be leaving her. If it wasn't for Lilith, Sam would have said to hell with it and would have stuck around for even longer than usual. The bitch needed to die though and the world needed saving. Sometimes it really did suck having to play the role of hero.
"How are the skates?" He asked, tightening his own. "Fit okay?"
