Waking up in a corn field was not the kind of New York welcome that Veronica Mars expected. Where were the lights and bustle of the city as it should be? Her first thought was that the plane had crashed, but there were no other panicked survivors, no crying babies, or screaming women, in fact there was no one around at all. Veronica was alone. All she had with her was her luggage and messenger bag from the plane. Her cellphone had been off on the plane so she had a full battery life left, and she had her charger stashed in her luggage too. She had her laptop too, but she seriously doubted she'd get a signal here…wherever here was.
Pulling her cellphone out of her bag, Veronica turned it on. She wasn't too surprised that she didn't have a signal. She dropped it in the bag, sighing. She hadn't had signal in the airport either, but that was pretty common, she guessed. Still she didn't like having no idea where she was, and the boots she was wearing were not really made for walking far in. If someone else was around, she might have made that cheesy Wizard of Oz joke about not being in Kansas anymore, but she was alone so any effect it had would be lost. Maybe this was a dream, but it seemed way too real for that.
She finally headed out of the corn field, the stalks scratching at the bare part of her legs. Her jean skirt and boots left a little space in between that was not covered. When she made it most of the way out of the corn field, she could see a road. She dragged her luggage behind her, she looked at the road sign in front of her.
It read:
Welcome to Lawrence, Kansas
Kansas? How the hell did she end up in Kansas? She didn't bother to read the rest of the time. She was baffled. There was no logical reason for this that she could think of, none whatsoever.
She'd have remembered getting off the plane in Kansas, and even if that were the case, it did not explain how she'd ended up in a corn field. Pulling out her cellphone, Veronica looked at the screen again. She had two bars. A little box popped up asking if she wanted to update the date and time. She pressed okay, it made sense that the time would update since she was in another timezone now, so she hit okay. She was shocked to see that not only had the time updated but that the date had as well, it read 2009. Veronica almost dropped the phone. How was this possible?
Her confusion just kept growing more and more. Was she really three years in the future? She kept walking down the street until she spotted someone who was not too far off. Maybe they knew what was going on, because she sure didn't. As she walked towards the person, she decided to try and call her dad, but she got the message that it was not a working number. This was very frustrating. She tried Wallace and Logan, and it was the same thing with both of them. What the hell was going on? She continued to drag her luggage behind her in the direction of the person she'd seen.
