Who: Dr Martha Jones, Gwen Raiden and Lindsey McDonald
What: Why a cocaine habit and a ghost sickness do not mix!
When: Afternoon
Where: Martha's med lab
Rating: Highish for drama?
Status: In progress
Note: I am not a doctor, I just play one on TV write one! ALL medical information is pieced together from Wiki so there may (in fact will probably) be errors!

The itching was driving Gwen crazy as she scratched as much as she could under the gloves, before she finally wrenched the damn things off, digging her nails into the skin around her wrists and neck. Under the welts that were starting to form was some bruising, in harsh dark shades of purple and red, coming up at an unnatural rate. Gwen wasn't sure if it was those or the extreme irritation that finally made her overcome her fear of doctors. Actually, it was probably Lindsey.

"Come on, doc, anything to make this go away, please?"

Martha herself was frazzled, trying to alternate between keeping as much of an eye as she could on a bunch of paranoid patients and researching how best to cure them. She couldn't deny that she was nervous being so close to the electrical thief, especially now that her gloves were off. Still, it was useful to have a patient up close like this, even this particular one. To be on the safe side, she pulled on an extra pair of latex gloves, gently taking Gwen's wrist to get a closer look at the skin.

Now that she was up close, she couldn't help but notice the way Gwen was breathing, like she was short of breath or something.

"Gwen?" She frowned slightly, glancing up at her patient, sitting on the bed. "Gwen, apart from your wrists and neck are you experiencing any other symptoms?"

The other woman shook her head before she paused with a frown. "Just heartburn, but that's totally your fault, I hate being near doctors." She took her other hand, the one not being held by Martha, and held her clenched fist over her the left side of her heart, her hand shaking slightly. "Kinda hurts here. And can we get this over with because it's been getting worse over the last couple of minutes." The look of pain on her face made it more than a little clear that she was underplaying how much pain her chest was causing her.

Martha'a eyes widened a fraction before she grabbed the stethoscope, carefully placing it over Gwen's clothes. It was less than ideal, but unavoidable if she wanted to avoid electrocution. Even the limit hearing told her enough, along with the increasingly labored breathing from the thief.

"Shit," the doctor swore as she realised Gwen was on the verge of passing out. "Exactly what I was afraid of, a damn myocardial infarction." Muttering to herself, she eased Gwen back to lie down, just as she did actually lose consciousness.

"Help me," she all but snapped at Lindsey, her training as an EMT taking over any bedside manner she may have had, her gaze glancing around her lab to find everything she needed. "She's having a heart attack."

Lindsey had been sitting with Raiden through all the tests, dealing with the symptoms, making sure she didn't scratch as much as he could, trying to convince her the lightning was not out to get her. It had been a hard few days and he admired Sam's ability to juggle fighting this thing and dealing with Ruby who had the same symptoms, the rumour was worse ones. If what Dean said about her was true, that was unsuprising. Raiden had proven to be a full time job too, dealing with her powers as well as other mundane fears that had sprung up around it all.

He was only half listening, enough to pick up on Martha's results but drown out the casual chatter, just like in a courtroom when he picked up on Gwen's discomfert, growing discomfort.

He was on his feet and toward her before Martha even said anything.

"What do you need me to do?" he said, suddenly terrified for Gwen, but himself enough to keep a cool head.

Martha was already moving, slipping an oxygen tube into Gwen's throat, trying to keep her lungs working properly before the thief suffered a pulmonary edema. Barely looking, she gestured in the direction of the cabinet, filled with medications.

"Get me the aspirin, the glyceryl trinitrate, beta blockers and the heparin," she recited the list off without thinking before she froze, glancing up rapidly.

"Wait, cocaine, forget the beta blockers, get me the benzodiazepine instead," as she talked she made sure Gwen was getting the vitally needed oxygen before she began to turn, looking for the defibrillator machine, inwardly thanking Eliot for stealing it for her.

"She's going to be okay," she began to turn her bedside manner back on. "We just need to stabilise her heart rate."

It was probably good he was a lawyer with the ability to memorise long pointless phraseology. Not knowing what they were Lindsey moved to the cabinet and searched for the listed Medications, working methodicly, not even thinking about anything else besides Raiden and getting her well again. He found them after about a half a minutes search, putting back the beta blockers and going for the benzodiazepine she'd requested instead.

He didn't know why the change in tactic, didn't care. The woman was the doctor and seemed to know what she was doing so he was happy to let her do her job.

"Need me to do anything" he asked, holding out the medication for Martha to take what she needed.

Martha administered the medications, one after the other, reassured by the comforting routine of following her training. She could do this, she was actually good at this. And besides, the pressure was on that if she failed, a woman would die.

"Just step back a moment," she glanced up before fixing the monitors into place, and firing up the defibrillator. Inwardly praying to something she sent the first charge through Gwen's chest. Her own breath caught as the monitors didn't change and she moved in for a second go. Two times was the charm it seemed as the monitors began beeping with a regular heart beat again.

Martha let out a long breath before moving to double check the equipment, adjusting the drips still sending the medications into the thief's body and the oxygen tube making sure she remained breathing.

"I want to keep her sedated for a little while," she turned to Lindsey, satisfied that she was out of danger, at least for now. "It'll keep her calm if nothing else. Until we know what's happening with this ghost, I think it's the best thing for her." She offered the man a half smile.

"She's stable and she's young, she should make a full recovery." Glancing around her lab she grabbed a chair. "Here, if you wanted to stay. Not the most comfortable in the world, but I can see about getting you a cushion or something."

When Martha stepped back Lindsey looked over to Gwen, seeing the thief shocked back to herself was oddly disconcerting given who and what she was. Two charges had done it and he let himself breathe when Martha spoke again about keeping her sedated.

"Right, probably best" he agreed, still unable to pull his eyes away from Gwen, disturbed by how she looked, vulnrable. That was it, he didn't like seeing her vulnrable.

"I'm not going anywhere. Don't care if its comfortable or not, I can promise you I've dealt with worse. I'm staying with her"

He hoped Sam dealt with this soon, he thought, sitting down taking her gloved hand in his and gently stroking along her hand. He'd nearly lost her, and it was only now he realized how much that bothered him, not that Dean was right or anything, he just...he'd miss her.
