Moving In
WHO: Jessica Moore, Quinn Fabray, open
WHAT: Moving into her new apartment, having ice cream and dealing with the Sam/Ruby stuff.
WHERE: Apartment Complex
WHEN: Later the evening after she finds out about Sam and Ruby
WARNINGS: TBD

Jessica turned the key in the door of her new apartment, opening it and stepping inside. She looked around her at the large, impersonal room, so different from the smaller but more homey apartment she had shared with Sam.

Sam.

God, it hurt. She didn't want to be one of those bitchy, whiny women who let getting dumped destroy their lives, but for the first time she understood why they felt that way, at least. Her heart was shattered. There was no other way to say it.

She closed the door, locked it behind her, and collapsed onto the couch, burying her face in her hands. Her eyes burned from tears that needed shedding, but try as she might, she couldn't get the tears to fall. Sometimes things just hurt too much for tears. Sam had been her first serious boyfriend. She'd been on dates in high school, sure, and one or two in college, but the guys she generally attracted weren't the guys she was interested in. She didn't want the jocks who were constantly hitting on her - she wanted the sensitive smart guys who usually didn't even show interest because they didn't think they stood a chance with a cheerleader. So nothing had ever gone past more than a date or two, when the jocks started pawing at her after she discovered they couldn't hold a conversation worth having.

Then she'd met Sam.

He'd been everything she'd ever wanted. Handsome, sensitive, smart...and she'd fallen for him hard. He was the first guy she'd ever slept with, and the first guy she'd ever loved. It had become so that she couldn't see her future without him in it, by her side, her support and her love.

And now that was all gone, and his heart belonged to another.

The pain shot through her again, and she nearly gasped. She didn't want to stay here. She wanted to go home, as far away from Sam and his new girl as possible. But she couldn't go there either. Not now. Not after what had happened.

Angry at herself for her weepiness, she went to the window and opened it, letting in the spring air. The breeze dried the dampness around her eyes, although it couldn't clear away the redness.

She had to think of the future now. The past was over, and she couldn't change it, but she couldn't dwell on the things she'd lost. It wouldn't do her any good.

Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise...

The lyrics popped into her mind and she took them to heart. This too, would pass. And she would make it through.
