Parker winced. Nobody in the crew liked it when a member took on a side job like she had prior to her arrival in Lawrence.
“I kind of...” She cleared her throat, looking at her feet for a second. “I sort of took on a side job.” Parker was silent only for a moment. “I got bored and I needed to do something!” She fully expected some sort of sign of disapproval. The last time she’d done a side job it had been for Archie Leach and the crew had to actually come and rescue her. It was kind of embarrassing for a thief of her caliber. To avoid a scolding, Parker kept on talking.
“I heard guards so I hopped into the vents to escape and I wound up in the middle of the road. A woman told me about this place,” She waved a hand around, indicating that she was talking about the apartment complex. “She drove me here.”
“Ooh!” Suddenly Parker’s face lit up like a little kid’s on Christmas morning. “Check out what I got away with!” She reached back to her pocket, pulling out the two small stacks of hundred dollar bills. “I don’t even know if they take normal money in Kansas, though.” She mumbled as an aside, focusing more on the new bills than anything else.
