The muscles in her hand moved just a hint beneath his, and he opened his eyes in time to see her squint, and then change her mind about opening them. And then, she said his name, and the sound of her voice-- rough as it was-- was so sweet that he had to blink quickly to disperse the tears of relief that sprang up. "Yes, my love?" he replied softly, in case her head was hurting.
Over his shoulder, he said, "One of you, turn off the lights?" then turned his attention right back to her. Hopefully, she could look around once it was dimmer.
