Pike nodded. "Oh. Well," he smiled a little, "now you can." Then he turned, headed for the door, and reached for the knob. His hand froze there and he closed his eyes, letting out a slow, quiet breath through his nose. The easy thing to do would be to open it, make some playful food-related jokes, and just go about a normal day.
The easy way is rarely the right one.
He let go of the knob and abandoned the door. He moved slowly back into the room and crouched down in front of Faith, leaning his head down and tilting his face up to try and get her to look at him. "Hey, Faith, c'mon. Something's bugging you. Talk to me." He kept his tone gentle and soft, not wanting to throw her on the defensive.
