Introduction: You have been brought into a modern world from a world where you are the norm. What do you do now...? Can you survive in a society built on reputation and harsh structure? Or are you already used to a life like this?
Premise: Welcome to "the world"! We're a Deathnote-centered RPG taking place in Tokyo 2004! In a mostly normal city, suddenly some kind of strange floodgates have opened, and people from other dimensions are being dropped into random parts of Japan! It can happen anywhere and anytime! It was frightening at first, especially since these people are equipped with strange abilities that normal people don't have, but Japan has decided to be amiable and allow them to try and live and work as normal citizens (of course, it's probably mostly just a show for the other countries of the world, as some shady stuff is going on behind the scenes). There seems to be no way for them to get home, though a few people have disappeared and returned without their prior memories...
You may pick anyone from anime, manga, or video games. If you pick a person from a series with no supernatural elements (as in none, at all. If you aren't sure, ask), you can just glean them in as if their entire history took place in the game already.
Note: You do not need to know anything about Deathnote to play here. In fact, it is BETTER if you don't. More things will come as a surprise.
World Information: Though the Japanese government is doing their best to help out these "scientific anomalies," the Japanese citizens are a different story. There has come to be a differentiation between people who look like normal humans, or "Passers" and people with distinguishing, non-human characteristics (someone like Inuyasha, for example), effectively called "Freaks" or "Mutants" in impolite society. The passers clearly hold a better standing in society, while the freaks are often stared at and sometimes publicly ridiculed. Those who cannot protect themselves make come to harm, even. Those who CAN protect themselves are feared and often denied jobs and housing in decent neighborhoods. There are always kind people, but more often, people are politely cruel.
Meanwhile, Japan is dealing with a huge threat (or Savior, depending on how you look at it), Kira. Kira is a murderer who can kill you just by knowing your name and face. If you have done something seriously wrong, and your full name and face are revealed on television, chances are you will be his next victim. Many of the normal people wish for Kira to get rid of all the freaks, but Kira seems to hold nothing against anyone unless they commit a heinous crime and have no remorse.
Note: Upon entering this world, everyone becomes mortal and subject to be killed by Kira. If you make the mistake of doing something Kira will notice, you may be killed, after which you must restart the character. Just a warning~ Of course, there are ways to get around and do naughty things without Kira noticing, as well...
There are three main factions with regards to the Kira case.
The police force: Most of them have quit due to fear of being killed by Kira, since Kira has killed people who were innocent, but chasing after him. They are hiring new people! If you believe you are qualified, apply for a job! It involves rigorous testing, but it pays extraordinarily well.
Demegawa and Sakura TV: The worst of television stations. They'll air ANYTHING and EVERYTHING with regards to freaks and Kira. Do you have a quirk and think you'll make it in show business? Hit him up and try to get a job. Sure, he'll make you look stupid in front of all of Japan, but as long as you keep ratings up, you won't go broke working for him and you won't get fired. Do you have something to say about Kira? Do you think you ARE Kira? Do you have a great new idea for a TV show about Kira? KIIIIIIRAAAAAAAA? Yes, Demegawa will probably at least have an audience with you. If you're money-hungry like he is, and obsessed with Kira, again, you've got a great chance at a job.
Kira himself: Kira mostly works on his own brainpower. But on occasion...he needs the assistance of a few very special followers. Have you been hanging on Kira's every move? Praise everything he's done? Post on his forums and appear on TV to discuss his wonderful methods? Well, you just might get recognized by His Greatness. If you're lucky...and he needs you.
