The Awakened Years

On March 19th 2011 a shocking turn of events took place. Thanks to a rather nasty murder trial that took place in Salem, Massachusetts - the long held secret world of supernaturals came to light. Most had already integrated themselves into 'modern' society over the years, but this awakening of knowledge amongst the general populace changed things. The first few years were rough - law makers argued back and forth, often without consulting those most effected by their decisions, and many a stumble was taken. Just over 5 years out from the events that day the world is starting to truly come to grips with what was really out there all along. The Awakened Years focuses on three main parts of Portland, Maine; the Portland PD and DA Offices, the Portland Campus of the University of Southern Maine, and what has been dubbed by locals as the 'New' district (a restaurant, leisure, and retail district near Back Cove that boasts a 90% rate of ownership amongst supernaturals). While the game itself will be largely player-interaction based, be prepared for the mods to throw a little fun your way regularly. This will usually be in the form of the local paper (the Chronicles, though many refer to the supernatural publication as the "supe' stories") announcing events in Portland or events and threads of a more criminal nature because even though they're out in the open, that doesn't mean everyone is behaving. For better or worse, life has always had a consistency to it. Humanity has trudged on over the course of centuries, seemingly never facing anything that stretched their realm of belief. They created stories, both to entertain and caution every generation of young ones, who then in turn told those same tales to their children. There were those who believed in a world beyond the natural, despite all the evidence that pointed to a lack thereof. Miracles and magic were possible -- so long as they didn’t cause too much of an upset in the status quo. And why wouldn’t humanity, after all this time, fully believe that the stories they had created were nothing more than fiction? Especially when accepting them as truth meant facing the reality that they lived in a world surrounded by monsters. Better to turn a blind eye, play ignorant, than spend every moment on edge, waiting for the end to come. But their disregard did more than keep the humans (relatively) safe and (mentally) sound. It also provided a chance, the first in many millenia, for all those hiding in the shadows to live again in the light. Statera is a relaxed, open setting that encourages player creativity. We support individual plot, as well as offer an overarching game plot for all to take part in!
