HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT?

Upon Albus Dumbledore’s death at the hand of Draco Malfoy, Aberforth Dumbledore knows he must do clean up the mess his arrogant elder brother left behind. It just took him three years to accomplish his goal. In 1999 he used means that the Ministry would never approve of, if that can even be said anymore, Aberforth traveled back in time to 1980. His original intention was to kidnap Sybil Trelawney before she could make the infamous prediction, but he was too late. So he went after his second target: Peter Pettigrew. Kidnapping, imperiusing, and then oblivating the young man was certainly the least of his crimes, but it kept him from betraying his friends’ most sacred trust and from innocent blood from being spilled. Harry Potter would never become the Chosen One.

Unfortunately, fate always finds a way in the end. Since he could not go after the Potters, Tom Riddle went after the Longbottoms. Augusta Longbottom put up a valiant fight, but on November 5, 1981 Lord Voldemort found his downfall with her grandson, Neville Longbottom. While the Wizarding World hailed the toddler as the Boy Who Lived, the remaining members of the Order of the Phoenix began the arduous task of hunting down and destroying the remaining horcruxes.

The year is now 2002 and the United Kingdom has had two decades of peace and prosperity. Neville Longbottom and his peers have attended and finished Hogwarts and are starting their careers. The World Cup is making it’s return to England. Word has it that Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic, is retiring to spend more time cultivating his prize-winning begonias with his wife, leaving the position without an incumbent since 1990. Purebloods, now gathered under the ‘traditionalist’ banner, sees this as their opportunity to take back the power they’ve ceded since the end of the War.

And then someone starts putting two and two together.

ONCE UPON A TIME, not so long ago there was a land filled with magic. In fact ... it's still there. Welcome to The Storybook. Here there are enchantments, miracles, and wonder, but here you will also find fear, wickedness, and doubt. Will you rise above the temptation of the dark to shine with the strength of a true hero? Or will your tender heart turn black and hard as coal and unleash your vengeance on any who stand in your way?

folkloric is a fairytale themed 'slice of life' rpg for original characters and stories. Each character has it's own tale that will be featured in the moderator journal for easy access to other writers. We encourage our writers to plot with each other as much as they can so that each unique fairytale intertwines, and several plots can be running at once. We have a community outside our OOC community just for storylines & plotting that has open membership, so if you are considering applying for the game, please feel free to join in the discussion at

Compendia, a country dubbed "the land of a thousand kingdoms." In the very center of this country, where each zone meets, is Arcanis, prime real estate because it has the best climate and the most magic. The current king of Arcanis, King Cole, is old, weak, and likely to die any day now. More importantly, he's heirless. Rulers of the many other kingdoms are starting to plot how they will take the kingdom from his cold, dead hands, if not sooner. For now they're still playing nice, but soon it will be a battle royale of fairytales' finest.

But not everyone is concerned with Old King Cole's throne. There are also the unconcerned royals, and the citizens of Compendia, all manner of people and creatures either trying to get by or looking for a different sort of power.

All roads meet in Arcanis.

Not So Happily Ever After is a game centered around original interpretations of characters from fairy tales, fables, folklore, and legends, as well as original fantasy characters. Open since January 9.
