For as long as anyone can remember, the City has always been one of the largest metropolitan centers in the world. It has had its share of glory and decline, but none so great as the age following the founding of OzCorp. Michael Ozma was no man of magic, but he might as well have been, for the technological wonders he wrought.
Today, however, the Gilded Age is long past. OzCorp, now led by Ozma's three daughters, has become corrupt, and the City has fallen from its glory days. Crime and drugs now rule the streets, though some aristocrats continue to live above it all.
Inspired by folk-lore and fairy-tales, Not So Far Away is a unique Role-Playing World that brings characters from fairytale, folklore, and mythology from around the world together into an ever-expanding universe.

the gist
| Think of any long-gone deity from mythology. Imagine they once truly existed. Now imagine that they aren't truly gone but instead their essence lives on, is reincarnated inside of that guy who sits next to you on the bus every day. Or Maureen from Accounting. Or maybe even you. They could be anyone, young or old, male or female, any race, anyone. The old deities once existed, once walked the Earth, and mortals trembled at their names. Long ago, they each slowly faded out, their existence only remembered as fables and tales. During this decline, one deity gathered up and called upon his or her last reserves of power and influence to create a reprieve, of sorts, for them all. They would find their essence, their souls if you will, not dissipated amongst the matter of the Universe but instead reborn inside a mortal body. They would be mortal, yes, their power would be greatly diminished, yes, and they might not even remember what they once were, but they would at least exist. |

The year is 2023. The war has gone and the wizarding world is left without even a glimmer of a threat on the horizon. In this period of calm, the Ministry of Magic has been working even closer with the British Prime Minister briefly in secret before solidifying plans and making a widespread announcement through the Daily Prophet of what is to come. For the past few months, a select group within the ministry had been working with the upper end of the muggle community and managed to put into motion a program to allow a small number of muggles to attend Hogwarts for a year. Forty-two muggles have been handpicked from some of the wealthiest and most political families in Britain to take a scheduled set of courses at Hogwarts. The wizard students will also be required to take at least one of the classes, in addition to their regularly scheduled course load, to help both integrate them a bit with their new classmates as well as educate them outside of their normal curriculum. Of course, rules about magic outside of classes will be harsher than ever before, and the ministry is the first to step up and implement an “administrator” to make sure these rules are ever so strictly enforced. In an otherwise normal year, the ministry has once again gone and stirred things up for some unknown reason that of course no one will ever come out and explain. Some of Hogwarts students have no problem with their new visitors, but some would rather the ministry hurry up and decide to take back this obviously disastrous plan. In the end, the only question left to answer is, will this be for better or for worse? . |
