A little over a year ago, something completely unexpected occurred. One night in mid-May 2007, people throughout the country called simply The States either went to bed or reported to third shift or even went out partying. It seemed like any other night, nothing out of the ordinary whatsoever. ...Until about 2:00am. That's when the sky started lighting up. People all over the country rushed out of their homes or workplaces or wherever they were at the time to watch as what looked like a brilliant meteor shower took place in the skies above them. There was wonder and awe for several minutes ... that is, until the first meteorite fell to the ground in Yellowstone National Park. Or perhaps it was in Toledo, Ohio. Some might even say it was in Omaha, Nebraska. No one would know for sure where the first one fell, or if there were several first ones. Because in a matter of hours, nearly every part of the country was left in shambles. Cities and entire states were decimated and casualties ran extremely high. In the morning, when the sun rose high and innocent in the sky, President Aldridge — still very much in shock himself — departed from Washington, D.C. and surveyed the damage. He was devastated to find that a mere thirteen cities had survived the disaster. None of them were completely without destruction, either; their outlying areas were mostly wiped out, and the overall population of all cities took quite a hit. There was no doubt about it: things were going to be difficult, and the citizens of these three lone cities would have to pull together to make things happen. With only thirteen cities left by themselves in no particular state, the country adopted the new name of "the Federation". Yet unbeknown to the president — let alone the remaining citizens — their planet (Earth, which consists only of the Federation) felt the loss just as much as they did. And because it had taken such injury, it knew that if it didn't make itself recover soon, it would die ... never a glorious fate for any planet. So after allowing its inhabitants to recover first in a little over a year, Earth decided to take action by doing something drastic: it began bringing fictional characters to life. Yeah, they were sprung out of books, TV shows, movies — whatever — and made into physical human beings just like those who were already walking the planet. Earth, with all its amazing ability, made certain... adjustments to its pre-existing citizens so that the newly-arriving fictional characters could learn to adjust and live amongst them. And someday, Earth hoped, these newcomers — along with those who were already living upon it — might just help it to completely recover so that it may continue living for many years to come. |
