It had been a long night. She'd found herself in her make-shift lab for the majority of the day. It was an easy thing, now. Normal. Comforting, almost, if there wasn't that sadness around the edges. Most days the normality of it was enough to ebb the sadness. Today was something different. The loneliness of it all had crept in the cracks. Maybe it was that Kirley hadn't found his way into her little room today, or maybe it was just the gloomy spring rain. Whatever it was, the empty feeling wasn't one she could shake even as she indulged the few clients that had paid for her time that night. She wasn't entirely sure they hadn't made it worse. After her last client of the night, she dressed herself in the skinny jeans and layered shirts she'd worn earlier that day. Not that she didn't like the corset dress she'd been wearing earlier (in fact, she felt vulnerable and a bit like jelly without the support of the thick fabric), but she was too tired to lace herself back into it for a third time. She pulled on her peacoat as she made her way down the stairs, preparing herself for the cold night air. She'd barely made it towards the door before he eyes settled on a familiar face. Her lips tugged in a smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes, as she changed her course to walk towards him. "Hey stranger," she said brightly, a teasing tone in her voice. "Fancy meeting a guy like you in a place like this." |
