Lancelot had wanted to do something special for Quin's birthday for ages now, though he knew it needed to be perfect. He knew that his bride-to-be tended to be a bit shy, and so he knew throwing a large surprise party like he had the year before for his brother wouldn't do. He needed a smaller, more intimate, sort of surprise. It had come to him when he had realized he needed to ask Gen for help, he would invite just the two women that were closest to Quin, and their significant others, over for dinner to celebrate her birthday. It would still be a surprise but it wouldn't be a large crowd of people.
He still needed Gen's help however, he needed help with the decorations. He knew where he wanted to throw their little dinner party, in the greenhouse. He wanted to make it still look elegant, he had hung a chandelier above the travel that was just big enough to hold their group of six. While the guests would be toasty warm inside, seated under the floral chandelier, they would be able to watch is snow around them through the glass walls and ceilings in the greenhouse. Lancelot thought it really made the perfect backdrop for their night.
With decorations covered, there had been just one last thing, they needed a caterer. Even though Lancelot was still uneasy about Tate, he had to admit the young man was showing that he really had grown up. He hired Tate to cater the dinner, knowing he would never be able to make a meal good enough for the six of them. If Lancelot was going to bringing people into the house, that meant however that Lancelot was going to need Quin out of the house.
His idea to get her out of the house had hit just a few days before her birthday, he wanted to take her out to pick out a cake from Sweet Nothings. He had spun a tale of wanting to make her a special dinner tonight, just the two of them. Nancy had agreed to watch the children, so they had the whole night to themselves. The wards were adjusted so that the rest of their guests could arrive while the pair were out.
Everything was going just as planned, and Lancelot was so proud of himself as he led Quin inside the house with their goodies from Sweet Nothings. "I don't think I can wait until after dinner, my love," Lancelot said with that dimpled smile, "Let's go out to the greenhouse, I want to give you, your gift." He held his arm out for her, and led her through the dimly hit house to the greenhouse, to her awaiting surprise. Her real gift was tucked away upstairs in their bedroom, waiting for the pair to come to bed.
