RP: Roses Are Red
Who: Addi and Hyperion
When: Friday, December 15, 2009
Where: The Cottage
What: Addi gets another "gift" from an anonymous sender.
Warnings: Stalker, implied threats
Despite the fact that she'd finally started being able to keep food down and was finally starting to get used to her periodic nighttime bathroom visits and had generally started feeling better and more rested, Adelaide woke up feeling as if she hadn't slept at all. She could try lying to herself about why that was, but what would be the point? Draco had messaged her out of the blue yesterday, and it had stirred up an intense feeling of restlessness in her. Her whole life had changed so much this year and was about to change even more dramatically in just six short months, which left her… well, in a bit of a panicked spiral in her head.
Not to mention the fact that she'd agreed to take him to the cinema. Even if it had been an innocent request, which she was inclined to believe if only because he'd respected the line she'd drawn this whole time, a part of her knew it was still inappropriate to go with him. This was a man she'd had sex with, a man she would have happily gone back to bed with had she not developed feelings for Phillip. And she did have feelings for Phillip. She loved him dearly, even if things had been strange since the dinner party.
She'd heard before that relationships never survive a turned down proposal. She hoped that wasn't true.
Addi's world went topsy turvy all over again when she slipped downstairs for coffee and saw the display on the coffee table. Red rose petals covered the entire surface of the table and directly in the center was a blue ring box with a card the size of a business card propped up between the ring and lid of the box. After glancing around to see if Phillip had shown up without warning her but finding no one, she lowered a shaking hand to the card, picking it up and reading the words printed on it: roses are red, and rings are all lovely, but darling you've lost me a lot of money.
Coffee forgotten, she lowered herself to sit on the couch, cheeks paling. She'd made someone lose money? How? Who?! And how in the bleeding hell had they gotten into the cottage?! Were they still here? Stomach churning, Addi bolted up and hurried upstairs to grab her phone. Unlike the roses she'd anonymously received a few weeks ago, this note made her nervous. Was it a threat? She had no idea, but she had no intention of touching that ring, no matter how gorgeous it was.
Phone in hand, Addi pulled up Hyperion's name and pressed the call button. He answered on the second ring and, without waiting for a greeting, Addi blurted out, "I need your help. Someone was in the cottage."
There was no reply right away, but moments later a muttered curse sounded. "I'll be there in five," he finally said.
Setting her phone back down, she pressed a hand against the slight curve of her baby bump and fought back a sob. She didn't want to be going through this again, she couldn't go through it again. But Hype would help, just like he'd helped last time.
