RP: Breaking In
Who: Hyperion/ZJ
When: Friday, June 9, 2009 [backdated]
Where: Hyperion's townhouse
What: After their first night at his place, ZJ gets locked out without her wand and tries breaking in to get it.
Warnings: Fright! And a lecture? Not so shabby...
The morning had been a bit of a rush for Z, only because she had fallen back to sleep after Hyperion had left. She didn’t know what had prompted her to lay on his bed again after she had been fully dressed, it had just looked so damn soft and inviting. She was running herself a bit thin between training her new assistant manager and trying to help her father with all of his newest creations, she had been going in a little earlier each day to get a new shipment or something. She really needed to start delegating more of those jobs to others.
When her phone went off, screaming in her ear and it was her father asking why she hadn’t opened the shop yet, she had raced for the door. “I’m coming, I’m coming. I’m sorry, I fell asleep! I’m going though, I’ll be there two seconds.” She couldn’t explain why it wasn’t zero seconds, why couldn’t she just apparate from her flat? She was in a flat that was not her own and she had to get outside the wards so that she could in fact apparate to the shop. At least she was already dressed. She hung up with pop, immediately dialing the employee she knew would be waiting and gave her the code to get into the shop so that she could open. At least they’d be open, she at least bought herself enough time to get coffee.
ZJ rushed out the door, being sure to lock it behind her as she went. It wasn’t until she was walking down the steps to his door, she started patting down her pockets for her wand, it wasn’t anywhere to be found. “Fuck!” She turned around, intending to find a way back inside to get her wand. She needed it to apparate, otherwise there was no coffee and no anything her future. It’d take ages to get to work. She continued to frantically pat down her own pockets, until she was sure she checked each and every one. “Shite.” She breathed, pulling her phone back out from the pocket she had tucked it away into.
There was a debate first, should she call one of his siblings or him? This was ridiculous, it was just her wand. While she may have needed to get into her own flat later, she could at least get to work without it and catch up with him later. This wasn’t a life or death sort of thing and she wasn’t about to call him while he was at work. It was settled, she’d try to break in and get it without alarming him. She was sure she could reach one of the windows from the street, it was going to be easy.
She made her way back down the steps and over to one of the windows. It was early enough that she wasn’t worried about anyone thinking it was weird as she tried to push open the window. She started with one, when it didn’t budge even an inch, she moved over to the other side where the other one was. She was struggling trying to push it open, it wasn’t budging either. She was starting to get frustrated, though she wasn’t giving up. She thought she had felt this one give a little, so she was determined to get the thing open. She was really too short to get a good hold on it, she was just pushing at it trying to get it to move. She didn’t realize that all of this abuse to the outside of his place would be triggering his wards.
It had been different having ZJ over at his house last night for the first time. Hype wasn't even sure why it had taken so long for him to have her over, except that they'd started things at her flat and it was simpler to just spend time together there. She lived in such a central spot, after all. But having her in his space had felt good and right, even if she was absurdly grumpy in the morning. He'd figured that out their very first morning together, though, and knew better than to talk to her before she had coffee, though he'd found other ways to show her his affection in the mornings over the last month.
Getting ready for his work day with her around had been different as well, but in a good way, and when he'd given her a kiss good bye before heading off, he'd been struck with how good and right that felt, as well. They were just shy of a month into this thing, and it was ridiculous to be thinking so far ahead, but the more he knew her, the more he knew that he wanted what they'd joked about since day one. Perhaps not the elopement, but to be her husband, to have her as his wife... He was more serious minded about her in a month than he'd ever been about anyone he'd dated, which might have been scary if it wasn't so exciting.
What he didn't expect was for him to get notifications a little while after getting to work that his wards at home were being messed with. His brows furrowed suspiciously and then rose in concern. Was it ZJ? But shouldn't she be at work already, too? He ducked in his supervisor's office and let him know he needed to head home for a few minutes because his wards were going off, and then he apparated with a pop. When he arrived and spotted ZJ trying to open one of his windows, he sighed, shaking his head. Just what was she doing? Had she forgotten something? But why wouldn't she have called him?
And then he decided that he didn't want to ask her, he wanted to see what she would do. And so he pointed his wand at the window and worked a bit of magic so that it would slowly open as she kept trying to push it. Once she was inside, he thought he might follow her and see what was going on.
ZJ felt the window starting to give with the last one she had tried, of course she was just that unlucky. It had to be the last one she would try, otherwise it wouldn’t be her luck. “Fuck.” She muttered when it finally slid open enough for her to be able to get back inside the flat. She put her hands on the sill then and lifted herself up and slid into the condo head first, trainers disappearing inside the flat as she went tumbling inside. She was definitely not graceful and had likely broken something in her fall into the room if anything had been under the window. She figured she could always come back with her wand and put it all back together.
She didn’t leave the window open, she shut it before she slipped from the room and went about heading towards the living room. She didn’t remember the last time she had her wand the night before. She remembered taking it out of her pocket after the movie, where it had gone from there.. She couldn’t quite remember. She thought she might have taken it into the bedroom but she thought there was a chance she had left it downstairs. She decided to search the main floor first before she headed upstairs, if wasn’t down there then it had to be in his room. She was sure it had to be next to the bed.
It was far too quiet in the house, as headed upstairs finally she was humming to herself. She even moved her hips a bit to the beat, dancing around the room as she went to the bed to see if she had slipped it under her pillow. “Merlin’s balls, where did I lose it…” She muttered as her hands came up empty handed. She was going to be ridiculously late for work, she really hoped no one was waiting on her.
Once she was inside, Hype disillusioned himself and went to the window, watching as she searched the main floor. What was she looking for? And then it clicked - she'd been trying to break into his house without magic, and he knew she was late for work, which meant she must not have her wand on her. He remembered seeing it in the bathroom this morning before he left, and so, when she seemed to head for the stairs, he apparated directly into the master bathroom, plucked up her wand, and then leaned against the door frame leading into his bedroom, waiting for her.
She came in and was searching the bed, not noticing him, and he remembered that he'd disillusioned himself. With a smirk, he decided to stay right where and how he was. With any luck, she would run into him without noticing him.
ZJ let another groan as she stood next to the bed and surveyed the room in front of her. “Where was the last place I had it…” She chewed on her full lower lip as bright hazel eyes scanned the room and saw absolutely nothing that resembled her wand on any of the surfaces. That wasn’t helpful at all. Then it hit her, and it showed because her entire face lit up, while an excused gasp slipped from her. She had been doing her hair! It had to be in the bathroom, she always left it there at home, though she generally noticed sooner than this, because she generally used it to get in and out of the building so she always found it before she left the flat.
It wasn’t until she was walking to the bathroom that she had a problem. She was just about to go through the doorway when she very clearly ran into a person, though… There wasn’t a person there. Her eyes grew wide instantly as the fear of that settled on her and she jumped back, her hands already in fists at her side. She was going to be pissed if this was one of his safety features in the condo or something. She wanted to run from the situation though if this person had made themselves invisible, she assumed they had a wand and that was something she was lacking just then. The only she could do in this situation was run her mouth, so that’s exactly what she did, while she was taking steps back towards the door and staring at the spot she had run into the person… Even if she couldn’t see them and they could be anywhere.
“Whoever you are, just know that if you hurt me, my husband is an auror and he will find you and kill you.” Okay, so he might not kill them because that was likely illegal, and he might not be her husband, but it sounded a lot more threatening she hoped. She was still walking backwards to the way back downstairs, in hopes that maybe she could haul ass to the door and get out before whoever it was used their wand on her.
She looked scared, which normally was not an expression he would like to see on her face, but in this situation, he was glad for it. What the hell was she thinking, leaving without her wand? But then she was backing up, her hands in fists at her sides, and he almost chuckled. Still, he waited her out, curious to see what she would do. Only then she spoke, and her words sent a wild thrill through him. Husband.
Only then the reality of the situation crashed down on him and any amusement he'd felt left him. He canceled the disillusionment charm and took a step into the room. "Sit down, Zahara," he said firmly, pointing to the bed. "We need to talk." Because what she'd just done there, other than give him a thrill of excitement at being referred to as her husband, had been so far from the right way to handle this situation that he knew he needed to make at least some of it clear before they both headed off to their jobs.
Relief flooded her when Hyperion was suddenly there, her eyes had even closed because she felt just a tiny bit weak. She had been so scared in that moment, and just like that her cheeks were pink with a blush. It was a deep blush that likely went all the way down. She was mortified by the entire thing, she had called him her husband in front of him, threatened him ridiculously while she had no ground to stand on. When she heard his tone… She may have let out a sigh like an angsty teenager, but she knew she deserved it.
“Don’t be mad I broke in,” She started, though she knew without a doubt that he had to know why she was there. Her wand was in his hand, she wondered how he had known though. Had he been waiting this entire time? Did he even go to work? She had a few too many paranoid questions about the entire situation.
Her stomach dropped when he said that last bit though, we need to talk. That was always what people said before they broke up, wasn’t it? Was he going to dump her because she had broken in to get her wand? She moved though to sit down on the end of the bed, doing her best to keep a neutral face and not give away the ridiculous turn her thoughts had gone, unfortunately she her neutral expression had a tendency to come off as pissed. She just hoped he had caught on to that already.
Hype snorted a short laugh at her first words, shaking his head at her. "You didn't break in," he told her. "Do you really think you'd be able to get through my wards just by pushing on a window?" He actually sounded just a touch offended. Why did everyone seem to think so little of him? He was a very capable and skilled auror, for crying out loud!
She didn't look happy, but at least she was listening to him. He summoned a chair over from under the window and set it in front of her, sitting in it so that he was facing her. "Zahara, as you just pointed out, I'm an auror. Do you understand what that means?" he asked her, though he didn't wait for an answer. "I deal with criminals, some harmless and some very much not harmless. What do you think might happen if someone not harmless I'd arrested was released or escaped and managed to track down where I live and break in? And if you were here and you told them your husband was an auror, what do you think they might do with that knowledge? If they were looking to punish me for doing my job." His gaze was intense on hers as he tried to get his point through to her without spelling it out. It was a serious thing and something they both needed to give proper consideration before they moved forward together. His job was dangerous, and she needed to understand that.
Zahara glared at him when he snorted with laughter! Though the glare had disappeared as it dawned on her, only as he pointed it out, she wouldn’t have gotten in without help. He hadn’t been there the whole time, that made her feel at least slightly better. She let out a huff, pouting just a tiny bit. She knew he was right, she had been ridiculous to think that he’d leave a window open.
Her eyes were on his the entire time he had spoke, though her expression was changing as it all seemed to dawn on her. His first question had been obvious, of course she understood what it meant. At least, she thought she did until he kept going. “Hype..” Zahara frowned then, she knew her defensive magic was fantastic, she had scored top marks and still practiced just so that things wouldn’t be rusty. Just in case anything should happen again. She didn’t know where to start. She knew though she had to explain herself, she had to start carrying her wand attached to her hip, and she had to be sure he wasn’t upset that she called him her husband.
“First, please don’t be mad that I called you my husband? I realize it’s ridiculous now, but it sounded scarier.” She rolled her eyes at her own words, she realized just how dense that one had been. “Secondly, I didn’t ever sit and think about it, no. I realize that now… I mean, I knew you were an auror and I’m not dense. I know you deal with bad guys, even bad guys that are really bad guys. It’s extremely hot that you’re a bad ass that takes out the bad guys,” She bit her lower lip, shrugging her shoulders. “I feel safe with you, I just never thought it all out, not like that. It doesn’t change how I feel about you,” She pointed at her wand in his hand, “It does mean I can’t live without that glued to my hand though, doesn’t it?” She wanted to reassure him that she knew defensive spells, she knew how to keep herself safe, but she had a feeling that might be something she needed to show him at some point. “I’m sorry,” She finished in a soft voice, she was sorry mostly for just not thinking. She should have had these thoughts long before this point, especially since she was falling for him.
As he spoke, he watched her carefully, taking in every detail he could of her responses to what he was saying, and by the time he finished, he still wasn't sure if she understood the gravity of the situation. Her first comment had him quirking a brow and biting back a laugh. Mad that she'd called him her husband? Why would that upset him? He loved that, except for the part that it would have given an intruder leverage against her and him. He would never forgive himself if something happened to her because of her connection to him.
He let her continue though, planning to wait until she'd finished responding to everything he'd said. He'd never thought she was dense, but rather that the fact they'd never discussed how his job might impact their relationship beyond unavoidable interruptions was something they needed to fix now. He smirked a bit at being referred to as a bad ass - that had been about 30% of why he'd wanted to be an auror, he wouldn't deny it. Though when she said it doesn't change how she felt about him, he relaxed a bit.
"That's exactly it. First rule of responsible wand ownership: always have your wand on you or within reach," he chided gently, holding her wand out for her. "And just so you know, I'll never be mad to hear you refer to me as your husband-" He paused long enough to get up from his chair and brace his hands on either side of her on the bed, looming over her with a wicked expression. "-it'll be good practice for when we elope," he finished before catching her lips in a searing kiss. "But if something like this ever happens again, please call me," he added after breaking the kiss. He rather thought he would adjust his wards for her now, though. He just hadn't thought about it before because until last night they'd just spent time at her flat.
If he called on her on pouting at him while he handed back the wand, she would deny every second but there she was pouting as she took it back from Hyperion. Her brows were perked though when he said he would never be mad to hear her refer to him as her husband, she thought her heart stopped when he kissed her then. She wanted to lean back in the bed, she wanted to drop her wand and grab his shirt and pull him tumbling into the bed. She was incredibly late and he was already technically at work.
“Alright, alright. I promise to be a good little witch and not leave my wand laying around, where did you find it?” She held her wand up a moment, she thought for sure it had been in the bed. “I promise to call the next time I lock myself out.” Which would be next week, she was sure of it. She was going to try though to keep her wand on her. That feeling she had felt when she had bumped into someone and couldn’t see who… It wasn’t one he wanted to ever feel again.
He hadn’t moved just yet, he was still looming over her and she couldn’t help herself. Her wand slipped from her fingers to fall to the bed beside her before she reached up and grabbed his shirt, pulling at him in an attempt to get him tumbling into the bed with her. She was going to be just a few more minutes late but... Well she wanted to make that feeling go away and when he had kissed her, it had chased it away. She had felt safe.
"In the bathroom," Hype answered. It had been sitting on the counter, all innocent-like. "Hopefully it won't happen again," he retorted dryly. For one, she needed to keep her wand on her, and for two, he would make sure to adjust his wards so that she could come and go without him.
When she tugged on his shirt, he could have easily resisted, but he didn't want to. He tumbled onto the bed with her, easily falling into kissing her again. He didn't think they had time for any real fooling around, but he did want to kiss her - he always wanted to kiss her. "I've got to get back to work, love," he murmured against her lips, rolling onto his back and tugging her with him so that she was laying over him.
Just like that that fear was gone, replaced by the warmth that she felt whenever she kissed him. He had come tumbling into the bed with her, which caused her to smile into the kiss. She laughed a moment later when he told her that he needed to get back to work, though he was moving and pulling her with him. She squirmed just a moment, her legs parting to straddle his hips, while she laid out on his chest. She put her elbow on the bed next to his head, using it to prop her head up on her hand so that her face was level with his. “I have to go to work too.. I’d much rather stay in bed.” Her free hand came up to walk two fingers up his chest, her own eyes moving to watch them a moment before she was looking back at him. "Unfortunately, I think my father is coming by today." Her nose wrinkled up then, she wasn't looking forward to that. She leaned up and stole one last kiss before she moved to start climbing from his lap.
He really did want to stay in bed with her, but he only had a small window of time before he would be in hot water for ducking out for a bit. "Ahh yeah, I'd rather not have your father pissed at me before I even meet the man," he pointed out cheekily, giving her arse a playful swat as she started climbing from his lap. He watched her go, and just before she reached the door, he realized her wand was still on the bed next to him. With a sigh and shake of his head, he sat up and picked up her wand. "Zahara," he called out, and when she turned to him, he tossed her wand at her. "Have a good day, love. I'll see you tonight." He'd wait until she left to lock up and get back to work.
