Emilia nodded. She knew that’s what was needed of her, knew that Benji didn’t need any more yes-people in his camp, knew that he needed that voice of reason and reality, and she knew she hated every moment of it. Benji was her only family and she would do anything to protect him from hurt and harm and making too much of a fool of himself, no matter the cost. And this time around, it had cost her her trust in someone she had considered a friend. Someone she hadn’t realized just how much she had missed until she was standing here in front of her in the middle of the street.
Gen was growing restless, everybody could have seen that, and Emilia couldn’t fault her. Nodding again, she sent her a small smile. “Yeah, you too, Gen,” she said, meaning it, even if she couldn’t find it in herself to encourage the other witch to look her up sometime. She paused for a bit, considering if she should, but then turned away and headed down the street. Sweet Nothings could wait until tomorrow, and Tate hadn’t known she was on his way to him, so he wouldn’t be disappointed when she didn’t show up, because right now, she just wanted to go home.
