RP/Network: Why Wait?
Who: Hyperion and ZJ
When: Thursday, May 11
Where: Respective locations
What: Hyperion calls ZJ to ask her out.
Warnings: More UST?
Having to leave ZJ yesterday had been an unjustified torture, in Hyperion's opinion. She was gorgeous and fun and willing, and the idiot criminal he'd had to track down and deal with just might have suffered rougher handling for being the source of interruption. He didn't normally hate his job, but his job also didn't normally intrude on his personal life with such precise and inconvenient timing. It was better, he supposed, than being interrupted once he was buried deep between her legs, but that was not much comfort.
He definitely wasn't going to let things sit for long, though. He had her phone number, given to him even and not found through his resources, and he saw no reason not to call her today. He hoped she wasn't at work or at least would be able to answer and have time to talk.
After pulling up her name in his phone (he'd entered her info in as soon as he'd had a chance last night), he pressed the call button and lifted the phone to his ear.
The number flashing across her phone was unfamiliar, she had a fleeting thought that it could be Hyperion. She quickly dismissed that thought though, no need to get her hopes up. She had just given him her number the day before, most men played games and waited a few days to call. She didn't want to get her hopes up.
"Hello?" She silently waited to hear one of her employees screaming their head off that something was happening at the shop. Unknown numbers were typically either employees or someone her father had put into contact with her for a shipment he was having delivered. It was her day off but she never knew when something would happen at the store. The new assistant manager was helpful but she seemed to have a bit of a learning curve.
It was clear that she had no idea who was calling, which put a note of amusement in his tone when he responded to her. "Hello, Zahara Flume," he said, allowing the accent of his childhood to shine through because he wanted to see if she would react to it again.
The name was an indication as to who was on the other line. That accent gave him away too, her smile could be heard in her voice. "There's only two men who would be gutsy enough to call me that, my father doesn't have that gorgeous accent though..." She gave a soft laugh as she moved to set her notebook down, she had been in the middle of finding inspiration. She sat back on the couch and settled in, she had been expecting a text. Most definitely not a phone call. "So, process of elimination means that this has to be Gerard Butler?"
Hype chuckled at her response, enjoying the ego boost at the adjective she used for his accent, not that his ego needed any help. "I don't know who this Gerard Butler bloke is, but I'd wager my accent is better," he retorted with a smirk. "As far as being gutsy - you never did say you didn't want to be called Zahara. I'm pretty sure it even made you a little weak in the knees when I called you that before leaving yesterday." A guess based on the way she'd responded to him, even if she had wrinkled her nose.
"Mmm, he's a muggle actor. I can introduce the two of you sometime?" If he agreed, she would likely make him suffer through the movie P.S. I love you and not one of the more 'manly' movies that would likely hold his attention. Her smile grew when he mentioned her reaction to her name falling from his lips from the day before. "Alright, so it might have made me a bit weak in the knees, just means you're only allowed to say my name in that accent. It's the only time you'll get a free pass."
"Oh, do you know him, then?" He chose to interpret her offer literally, even though he understood she probably meant she would show him some of his work. "Might, mmhmmm. I'll keep that in mind." Naturally. He planned to use his accent to his advantage, having every intention of doing what he could to make her weak-kneed as often as he could. "Now, I know we have a game to finish, but I was wondering if you would let me take you out - on a date, just so there's no confusion." He was a rather direct sort of person, and he hoped she would appreciate that.
ZJ gave a musical laugh, her eyes growing wider when she heard his question… And well, reason for calling. He wanted to take her on a date. ZJ was almost certain that was something that constituted talking to Persephone about, something she needed to do before she went on the date. “I do, I’ll arrange something. Though.. A first date might not be the place for me to introduce you to another man. I’ll save that for the second date..” Hyperion was unlike most men that asked ZJ out, she was usually left wondering if friendly outings were really dates in disguise. He was forward enough that he just asked, there was only one other man that had done that and it had been while in school. “What did you have in mind?”
"Good plan," he agreed readily. "Shouldn't risk another man stealing me away, especially before we get to finish that game." Though he might have higher hopes for things than just finishing a game. "I haven't decided just yet, and I think I'll have more fun surprising you, anyway." He paused, but only briefly. "But I promise to give you ample notice for what level of dress would be appropriate." He had sisters, he knew it could be his head if he didn't.
ZJ smirked as he mentioned the game again, "I can't wait to watch you lose the game." She said with a playful little sigh. "Have you at least decided just when you'd like to take me on this date?" The fact that he didn't have an idea as to what they would do had her intrigued, he didn't strike her as the type to go typical routes with anything. She assumed dating for him was no different. "Though, I have to ask. It's the prospect of kittens that has you asking me on this date, isn't it?" ZJ didn't actually know if Nancy was pregnant or not just yet, though she would tease him about it.
Losing the game was an eventuality he was prepared for, and he chuckled at her statement about it. "How does tonight sound? 6 o'clock?" That would hopefully give them both time to sort themselves out for it. And he did have some ideas brewing. He laughed outright at that comment about kittens. "You caught me. My master plan is to woo you in a whirlwind romance and elope before Nancy can give birth, that way you have to keep the kitten you would have foisted upon me."
Hazel eyes grew wide, a soft laugh slipping from her. "I thought you might have been asking about the weekend... You're in luck, I'm free tonight.." She bit her lower lip, she still had time to send a message to Persephone... If she sent it right this second...She did snicker at his master plan. "That's a terrible plan, that's like.. The best plan if you want to end up with a billion kittens. I would insist on keeping them all as our children. We would have to name them all with the letter N though, after Nancy. She's their true mother."
"The weekend? And wait that long to see you again?" He made a sound of dissent, as if the very thought were preposterous. Her response to his master plan made him want to laugh, but instead he sighed dramatically. "I'm not sure I can come up with a billion N names. We might have to reuse a few N names and pair them with numbers. Nicole 1, Nicole 2, Nicole 3... you get the idea."
Thank goodness he wasn't there, she was definitely blushing. "You're ridiculous." Though it was said in a tone that gave away the fact that she was flattered. She wasn't sure anyone had wanted to see her again so soon after meeting her. Though she was laughing again as he named their kittenchildren. "Fine, fine. So long as you don't try to just name them all Nicole, I'll let it slide..." She bit her lower lip, rolling her eyes at herself. "You promise to love them all like your own, right? We'll have to explain to them at a young age that they're adopted, since they won't look like you much and all."
What was ridiculous was the fact that he was getting turned on by the fact that she was playing along with the eloping before the kittens can arrive joke, though there was always the possibility that she was insane and would expect it to actually happen. Although... but no, he didn't think she was insane. Persephone probably wouldn't tolerate that type of person as a friend. And, yeah, he was probably going to have to clue his sister in that he was pursuing her friend... "Of course I promise," he answered with exaggerated solemnity. "All right, since I've secured the chance to woo you, I've got a couple questions to help guide me. First, are you afraid of heights?"
ZJ just gave a giggle when he said he promised, “Good, they’ll have questions.” She smiled at his own questions. “Well. I’ve been skydiving, so I’m going to say no.” Though it had her curious as to just what they would be doing.
"You have?" he asked first, a hint of envy in his tone. "That's something I plan to do someday." The admission was given without hesitation or embarrassment. "Next, what are some of your favorite foods?"
ZJ gave that musical laugh. "I have! It was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to vacation this summer somewhere I can swim with sharks. That's one thing I've always wanted to do, I'm maybe a bit of an adrenaline junkie." Her parents hated it but her cousin had showed her all the fantastic adrenaline chasing things the muggle world held. "Mmm, I'm going to assume candy doesn't count. These are not in order, Mexican, Mediterranean, and comfort food... did they help at all? I should probably start with the fact I get take away from the leaky often.."
Hyperion had the very irrational urge to apparate to her and have his very wicked way with her. That she was so adventurous was something he found incredibly attractive. "That's it, ZJ, marry me," he said. He was joking, of course. Probably. Her list of foods wasn't as much of a help as she might think. "Let me rephrase - are there any types of foods you are adverse to?" He hoped that would give him better direction.
ZJ smirked. "I thought we had already agreed on an elopment? Ooh! We could be tail blazers and get married while skydiving, two birds with one stone," she teased, while her parents would love if she finally thought about settling down at all, she had yet to give it any sort of serious thought. Likely due to the fact she had not had any serious relationships that ever headed that way. "I don't think so, I try everything at least once or twice before making an informed decision on it. Women, food, the usual things."
"It's a date," he retorted, promise in his tone, and damn if there wasn't a part of him that wanted to and would do it if it came to that. Hyperion was pretty sure he was crazy enough to do it, and he also figured that when the right woman came around, he'd move heaven and earth to make her his. He just couldn't help that he was an all-in sort of person. He groaned appreciatively at the mention of women. "You're killing me, Zahara," he warned, doing the accent thing again.
"This date or another?" she asked in a teasing tone, though then he cheated. He used his accent and it was an almost instant turn on... so, she decided not to play fair. She let out a soft, breathy, moan. "Hyperion," she said his name in that soft moan, pausing for half a second before continuing her thought. "I'll see you at six?"
"Hmm, I suppose we'll see," he answered, not willing to commit. He didn't think it would happen on this date, but he had a feeling that with her, he shouldn't rule anything out. And gods, that was exciting. Her moan and the way she said his name shot straight to his groin, and he groaned softly in response to it. "Promptly," he said gruffly, the promise clear.
ZJ grinned when she heard the tone of his voice. "Good, I'll try to wear something that'll make us late for whatever you plan. See you then!" With that, she pressed end call and went about adding him to her contacts.
Promises, promises. "Look forward to it," he said even as the line went dead. And now, he really had to figure out what they were going to do. He hadn't given himself much prep time, but he was confident he'd be able to get it done.
