RP: Meeting for the Confession Folk
Who: Cast & Crew of Confessions, Tracey, Persephone, Alec, and Penelope
When: 20. March 2009, 4pm sharp
Where: The HR Conference Room at WWN
What: Penelope has called a meeting
Warnings: TBD
As the hands on the wall clock reached 4, Penelope cleared her throat, and gave the people assembled in the room exactly three beats to stop talking and start listening.
“Thank you for being here,” she started out, though she knew that Tracey had worded the message to them in a way that brokered no possibility for them to be anywhere but here. “While most here today don’t put any validity to the so-called Little Birdie’s claims of a burgeoning romance between colleagues here, it doesn’t change the fact that it could just as well have been true. You, the cast and crew of Confessions work intensely together for hours on end, in conditions ranging from high end luxury to dirty and physically exhausting environments. The cast, in particular, are often require to present themselves in intimate situations, while the crew is watching and directing to create the best possible visual result. There is a reason why this rumour began blossoming, and that is because everybody here is human and susceptible to the natural bond and comradery this produces, and like at any other workplace, it is not uncommon for this to evolve into intimate relationships. When romantic relationships enter the workplace, the relationship is no longer just between two people, but can affect not just cast and crew, but the managerial staff as well as the finished production, too. While the idea of having a workplace sweetheart may boost some employees’ morale, romantic relationships in the workplace can create employee dissension and legal liability for WWN, the employer. And that is why I’ve called you here today.”
As she spoke, she moved with confidence, making sure to address everybody in the room, though singling out nobody. “WWN cannot and will not prevent two employees from engaging in a personal relationship outside of the workplace,” she continued. “I repeat; outside of the workplace. We expect employees to conduct themselves professionally while in the workplace, and that includes being on location or other places where you represent WWN in general and Confessions in particular.”
“We cannot force you to disclose any personal relationships, though we encourage you to contact HR to have a so-called ‘love contract’ put into place. A ‘love contract’ is nothing more than an agreement that affirms that the relationship is consensual and that you understand WWN’s anti-nepotism, anti-fraternization, harassment, and retaliation policies. If WWN becomes aware of a relationship, whether actual, perceived, or rumoured, you can expect discrete and appropriate action to be taken, to reduce the odds of negative repercussions should anything go awry.”
“I have invited Healer Persephone Montgomery and Dr. Alec Urquhart here today,” she said, sending Persephone and Alec acknowledging smiles, “to clarify the physical and psychological ramifications of sexual harassment and afterwards lead the discussion and answer any questions you may have.”
