Prompt #23 - Afterlife
Do you believe in an afterlife? If so, what do you expect to find when you get there?
I'm not able to say I believe in an afterlife. Most religions do have their version of such whether it be heaven, hell, or the Elysian Fields, but I am a man of science. There is no scientific proof of such existing. Maybe some will call me a man of no faith, some may see me as an atheist, but I need proof of something. It's how I work and those who know me well enough can see that.
Maybe in a perfect world we should all have faith in something more past death. Some would think it was the normal thing to do. Me however? I don't have time to sit and wonder whether the victims have gone to heaven or hell. I don't have time to wonder where their souls have laid to rest. My job is to focus on the crime. To focus on the body and the scene of the crime to try and find who took the person's life. My faith lays in my team and the job they do to gather evidence. To piece the puzzle together to find the suspect. To set a victim's family at ease and give them closure and justice.
When a case is over do I have time to wonder whether they went to a good place or a bad place? No because in the City That Never Sleeps there is always a murder to solve. Science gives me something to focus on, my job gives me a purpose.
