Prompt 15: Mistaken Identity
Let's face it, no-one is going to mistake me for someone else. I'm the second-tallest Noldor in history (only Cirdan beat me), I have fiery rich auburn hair, and one hand. I take after my grandfather Mahtan in appearance (though he was shorter and did not have my temper), and the twins Ambarussa also have red hair though theirs is a little paler in shade than mine.
There was a time though, when the tables were turned and I had someone else's identity mistaken.
I was young, and my relationship with my cousin Findekano was new and exciting, and I was trying to spend as much time with him as I could, which was never enough. I was delighted therefore, when his father hosted a party at his home, and all our family were invited. My father refused to attend of course but my mother would not be bound by his politics so she took me and my brothers to enjoy the fun.
There was miruvor flowing in plenty, and being fairly recent of the age of majority, I wasn't particularly accustomed to drinking, so it wasn't long before I got quite drunk. Now, apparently, alcohol makes me horny, so I went in search of Findekano, hoping to entice him into a quiet room for a little while. I found him walking in a corridor ahead of me, so I crept up behind him hoping to surprise him, kissed his neck and groped him.
He turned around, and it wasn't Findekano. It was my uncle Nolofinwe, his father.
I was mortified. I mumbled something about "thought you were someone else", which was true, and went off to throw up in the nearest flowerpot. I was absolutely terrified of meeting my uncle Nolofinwe again, of what he might say, but he never mentioned the incident again, indeed he made a very good show of pretending that nothing at all had happened. I am certain he knew who I had mistaken him for, though he never openly mentioned my relationship with his son, he would hint sometimes that he knew about it, and secretly encouraged it.
I suppose that uncle Nolofinwe secretly encouraged anything that my father disapproved of.
