A very controversial article is printed in the Daily Prophet. It discusses the suspicious nature of Leech’s disappearance, and the growing control Ruddock is gaining. It suggests that not only Ruddock was involved in the Minister’s disappearance but his favored officials as well. Also, one of the major factor’s of Leech’s disappearance is the lack of Ministry control. A debate about the article erupts in the middle of the Seventh Year Ancient Runes class. Professor Kartheiser promotes the concept of freedom of speech, and allows her senior students to have a discussion about the words written in the Prophet. However, the discussion between Dorcas Meadowes and Severus Snape becomes heated, and Professor Kartheiser has difficultly defusing the situation. She calls upon Professor McGongall who has a free period to end the argument. 10 points are taken from Gryffindor and Slytherin for not respecting Kartheiser’s authority. Ruddock presents to the Ministry a detailed plan to end vigilante action, in addition to the suggestion of voting to make him permanent in his post as Minister for Magic.
Quidditch tryouts results are put up on the respective house bulletin boards in the common room, along with next month’s Quidditch game schedules. Slughorn’s ‘Welcome Back Soiree’ for his Slug Club members is held at an abandoned and yet appropriately decorated classroom at 8 pm for those invited and their plus one guest.
Ruddock is announced publicly as the new Minister of Magic. Quidditch practice starts immediately. Schedules are already off, as Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were scheduled at the same time, thus causing a brief conflict between houses. But it was quickly resolved by a game of gobstones where Hufflepuff won their time for practice that night. During practice however, one of the bludgers goes rogue, almost injuring the Hufflepuff Seeker. Slytherin Quidditch Player makes the statement that the Ravenclaws probably caused the incident.
After the article the Daily Prophet released on the 16th, Ruddock incorporates the Daily Prophet as a Ministry of Magic controlled office. An announcement is made in the Daily Prophet, with only this news appearing in today’s post.
Ruddock releases an article in the Daily Prophet speaking about the Vigilante Regime. As a part of this new policy, any citizen demonstrating any behavior against the Ministry will be taken into custody, questioned, and sentenced. An impromptu staff and prefect meeting is called by Dumbledore, who reads a notice from Ruddock that says prefects, student authority and staff also are called to report and watch carefully for any sign of vigilante action in Hogwarts.
Almost a month after Leech’s disappearance, Hogwarts holds a ceremony of sorts by the lake. Terry Smith makes a journal entry about how Nobby Leech probably was kidnapped by a group of wizards using Dark Magic. The student’s journal disappears magically as soon as the journal entry went up. Later that night, the student is summoned to the Headmaster’s office, before being released and transferred to the Hospital Wing the next morning after a reported sudden attack of a ‘cold’. Later that night, Dumbledore was late to dinner. Thaddeus Selwyn and Student Two were also late, and swear they saw Ruddock leaving the castle angrily, as if he had just been in an argument.
