Evie always enjoyed a good run. Stretching a bit, she tied her hair up so that it wasn't continually falling in her face and then started off. She had no real course in mind, just wherever her feet would take her. She was sure she'd end up somewhere interesting in the end.
Already in the process of having a good jog going, Will, decked out in his jogging attire spotted his former classmate just down the stretch and hurried his pace to meet up with her. Coming up alongside her he called out to her. "Hey Evie. Haven't seen you in a while." The attempt to catch her though has caused him to burn through part of his reserves, and his breathing is noticeably deeper than it should be at this point, most likely he'll manage to keep up though.
Evie looked over her shoulder and slowed down a bit to let him catch up, grinning and fresh as she was just starting her run. "Hey mate! Out for a run, too? Looks like you've been at it a while," she pointed out, gesturing a bit with her arm as she looked him over and shrugged. "Just been busy and whatnot, with all that's going on you know. You?"
His pace began to match hers as they fell into a steady rhythm. Answering back he said, "Not to much. Getting to know the team more or less. We've been fairly inactive for a bit, and I think Cabin Fever might be setting in...so to speak. How bout you? How's your team?"
She shrugged, wiping off a bit of sweat that was starting to form on her forehead just due to the heat. "Alright, I guess. We're mostly bonding and whatnot. Kinda getting the cabin fever too, I suppose."
Will slowly pondered a question over in his head, one he had always meant to ask her, but never had the opportunity too before, he decided now was probably the best the time. "So..." he started, making sure that he phrased it as delicately as possible, "I've been meaning to ask you for some time. And forgive my ignorance in the matter. But.....your spirit animal....what exactly is a dingo?"
Evie looked at him askance for a moment, trying to decide if it was justifiable to freeze him, but then shrugged the urge off. "A dingo is like a wild dog, mate. Sorta like a wolf or something in the States, but totally different."
"I mean I had seen the Zord, but I don't know," said Will shrugging it off. "You only ever hear the name in movies and stuff. So its kinda like a wolf or a coyote or something?"
"Sorta but not," Evie shrugged. "Don't know how to explain it, it's just a wild dog y'know? Go look it up," she suggested, shaking her head.
"Hmm," thought Will aloud. "That's probably not a bad idea." His pace started slow down a bit, as he began to feel some of his muscles become sore, but he still managed to hang in there. "Speaking of which, have you had to use the Zord yet?"
Evie shook her head, scowling a bit. "No. It'd be ace, though, I can't wait until I get to." She threw a few imaginary punches, a wide grin forming on her face, not totally realizing that he was lagging behind.
"You wouldn't be able to touch my Hawk Zord," teased Will. "I'd just fly circles around you." Doing a crude imitation of an airplane with his hand while they ran, he added to the effect with engine sounds, and laser blasts.
"Just wait till your Zord gets tired, mate, I'll eat you for dinner," she winked, jumping a bit due to extra energy and finally noting that he wasn't quite up to pace. "Tired?"
"No," lied Will, though keeping pace her was becoming a little bit more difficult., and his heavier breathing a bit more evident. "You kidding, I could do this all day."
She smirked, and shook her head. "If you say so, y'bastard. I guess you won't mind me asking you to a race, then, since you're doing all right. Just a short one you know."
Attempting to use his diplomatic training from both Ranger classes, and Law classes, Will replied, "If we do that, we could burn ourselves out real quick. Isn't it better exercise to keep a good jog going?" He doubted it would work, but he felt he had better give it a shot just in case.
Evie grinned evilly. She never was one for diplomacy. "Oh come on, just a short one! And then we could take a break. You know, since you could go forever and whatnot. Shouldn't be too much to you."
Cursing all women in his head, Will realized he might have to concede to her demands. However, he wondered if perhaps there was a way he still might win this. Quickly coming up with a plan, he decided the best course of action was to cheat. "Ok....GO!" Rushing forward, he had hoped to gain enough distance to negate the higher amount of stamina she possessed.
It took a second before she cried out, "Hey!" and put on an extra burst of speed, quickly overcoming him. "We don't even know where we're racing to!" The effort of shouting and sprinting were quickly making Evie lose her breath, but she kept going, holding back her gasping.
"Good point," said Will as he changed direction on her. Pointing ahead of him, he cried, "To that tree." Cheating had been a good plan so far it seemed.
"Hey!" she shouted again, putting on one last burst of speed as she suddenly switched directions and headed towards the tree he indicated. Eyeing the distance between Will and the target, she rushed forward and hip checked him out of the way, before practically diving towards the tree and wrapping her arms around it. "HA!"
Using his Ranger training, Will was able to tuck into a roll before he hit the ground, but as he came back up she was already at the tree. Dusting himself off, he realized there was no sense in crying cheater considered he had been the first one to do it. However at the point, he bent over putting his hands on his knees as his muscles began to feel the strain that he placed on them. His breathing was deep as he said, "Alright, you win."
Evie sucked in a few deep breaths, before smirking cheekily at him. "As I bloody well should. I thought reds were supposed to be fair and all that crap, what was with that?!" But Evie had to laugh, shaking her head and sitting on the ground, leaning against the tree.
Getting some of his stamina back, Will straightened out, "Well, we are supposed to be fair, and we are most of the time. But we also have to get the job done too, and sometimes that can involve a little....bending of the rules."
"Pah. You just didn't want to lose to a girl," she grinned, stretching her arms above her head. "Sorry, mate, but I could beat you even if you hadn't been tired off your arse."
Taking one final deep breath, Will smiled. "Yeah....your probably right." Putting his hands on his hips he announced, "I got to hang out with Quinn and Lisa the other night."
She lifted a brow, looking at him. "Oh yeah? What'd you guys do?" She patted the spot next to her, offering him a place to sit down and get off his feet for a while.
Will took the seat offered, and sat down next to her, glad to be off his feet. "The age ol tradition that all old friends do. Chinese."
"And you blokes didn't save me some? Bloody wankers," she teased, her accent thickening in her tiredness as Evie leaned back against the tree, smiling affably over at him.
"You know Quinn," Will argued. "Once its on the table, the only place its leaving is in his stomach." Will leaned forward, folding his hands together in front of him. "Ran into Staffan the other night at the pool hall. Man, I still can't get over how busy we all are."
"Well, we're all Rangers now. Gotta do what we gotta do, sworn to protect the public and uphold all that is good or some crap like that," Evie shrugged, running a hand over her forehead again. "Wish I thought to have brought some water or something."
"Yeah, well you and I were never the Rocket Scientists of the group," reminded Will, "that's always been Quinn and Lisa. By the way, how's Erin?"
Evie shrugged, stretching again. "Alright. Being Erin. Another rocket scientist. Bloody hell, being surrounded by all these smart blokes makes me feel like a bloody idiot."
"Your smart enough otherwise you wouldn't be a Ranger," Will reminded her. "Besides, its more than just smarts. Its about balance. We're the ones that keep the others going, they rely on us for our strength, and we rely on them for their intelligence. It's part of that perfect harmony thing."
Evie snorted, rolling her eyes. "Sometimes I think that's just a bunch of crock. I sure as hell have seen some stupid Rangers. Like that sheila, Penny. Who goes and gets knocked up when they've got a good gig going?"
Will shrugged in response, "Yeah I heard about that. Stuff happens, especially with all the crazy things the morph does to our bodies. It probably isn't the first time, in fact I bet if you went back and looked its probably happened a couple of times. But hey that's how openings on teams happen."
Evie wrinkled her nose. "You can go look, Mr. Lawyer Man. I'm fine pretending this is the first and being a gossipmonger about it." But then she shrugged, letting it drop. "I'm glad none of the hormone spikes have happened to me yet. Or at least not the bad ones." Evie suppressed a shudder, hating to think what would happen if she needed sexual satisfaction.
“We're all going to have to deal with it sooner or later," Will countered, as he stared off into the distance, his mind thinking the same as Evie's. "And we're all going to have to find ways to deal with it in our own ways."
"Ugh, I bloody well hope not," she said, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly, the suggested tone of the conversation aggravating her. "Stupid things, hormone spikes. Who thought up those, anyway?"
"I think they told me it just happens cause of the chemical reactions in the body and what not," suggested Will. Taking a different approach, he decided to tease her about it. "You could always not morph, and avoid them that way you know."
"And then be an absolutely awful Ranger and be kicked out within a week," Evie grinned. "I'm fine. I'll deal with it. Price of growing older, right? I just hope it's something like... wanting to life five hundred pounds."
"You'd sure get buff fast," teased Will, "and then when your all big and huge the monsters will all be afraid of you. Probably some of the guys too."
"Hell yeah. Then I really could take anyone. Probably even that Jake bloke, Tank they call him? Although then he would start harassing me about eating my greens and whatnot and I would forfeit out of boredom," Evie added, rolling her eyes. "Or at least that's what I hear."
Will laughed loudly, and the smile remained on his face. "I'd like to see that fight. He's like twice the size of you."
"I could take him on!" she argued defensively. "Especially if I start lifting five hundred pounds. Could you imagine all the muscle on me then?" she grinned, flexing her arm for emphasis, which was pretty well muscled as it was.
"Yeah that would be a sight," said Will in a mocking agreeing kind of way. "I will definitely fear the day when that comes to pass."
Evie scowled at him a bit, before breaking out into a wide grin. "Well, if I do start lifting like crazy, I should just take steroids so that it'll all even out."
Will shook his head, as he nearly fell over laughing, "NO. That is the worst idea you've ever come up with. Stop right there." He stood up slowly and turned to face her. "We all like you the way you are. So hopefully, you'll just stay this way."
Evie blinked, lifting a brow at him. "Are you saying I come up with bad ideas? When have I ever come up with a bad idea! I'm insulted."
Will scratched the back of his head as he thought for a second, his memories slowly came back into focus. "I seem to recall an incident where you suggested we break into the ZordBay our first year, and take the older Gorilla Zord for a joy ride through Angel Grove......or the time you almost started that bar fight in our second year...."
"Hey! That was a joke, you were the one who actually went about planning it," Evie pointed out, punching him jovially in the shoulder. "And that bar fight was not my fault, he was the one who got all upset because the Rangers lost. Bloody Rangers. Baseball isn't even good, anyway," she grumbled.
Will shrugged, "It was a close game, and hey we never actually got into the bay to do it. Remember we got freaked out by that security guard and stuff. Remember the look on Lisa's face?"
Evie giggled wildly, nodding. "Too bad. It would have been awesome watching her pilot that thing. Big gorilla zord." She leaned back, thinking about it. "What were we even going to do with it?"
"Scare cops...I think, or something stupid like that." Slowly he folded his hands into his pockets. "All the new students are too scared to do that kind of thing I guess....ah the good old days."
"And now we have our own zords..." Evie drifted off, thinking about her zord. Her trusty dingo zord. She missed seeing dingoes around, but she wasn't about to go back to Australia anytime soon.
"True," said Will nodding, in agreement. His gaze was at the ground though as he began to think of his Hawk Zord. "I haven't even got to put mine into Megazord formation yet. I think its the head or the chest or something."
Evie shrugged. "I'm not sure, either. I'm kinda excited to find out. But if I'm the foot I'm gonna be pissed," she grinned.
"Why you'd get to kick stuff," laughed Will. Then his demeanor took on a more serious look for a moment as he added, "Remember, without the foot, the Megazord can't even stand. You'd be the most important part of the Zord."
Evie rolled her eyes. "Don't try to talk me up, I know. It was just a joke. It'll be cool going into megazord at all."
Will broke out into a fit of laughter, "Hey I didn't even know what a Dingo was before today."
She smiled, shaking her head. "True. But still, it'll be cool. We'll be going into kickass mode. I'd like kicking someone."
"No one better for the job," added Will, and then slowly he glanced at his watch. "I need to be going, I got reports I have to go threw pretty soon. No one told me there would be this much paperwork when we got here. I thought it was all just morphing, Zords, and fighting."
"I know, right?" She sighed, stretching once more. "Well I'm gonna keep on running. Have a fun time with your paperwork," she teased, standing up.
“Oh its a blast, as always," Will sarcastically returned. "All the cool kids are doing it y'know?"
"Then I guess I'm not cool," Evie laughed, before waving and starting off again on her run, letting that be her good bye.
"Later Evie!" Will called out after her, as he begun walking in the opposite direction, his legs still sore from their improved race. "It's always good to run into her."
