Entry tags:hermione granger, ron weasley

Who: Ron and Hermione.
What: RIGHT after their conversation in Hermione's journal.
When: Early evening.
Where: Hermione's flat.
Rating: TBD.
Status: In progress.

Prior to his conversation with Hermione on the journals, Ron had been planning on heading out to some muggle bar with a few co-workers of his because they had the sudden desire to explore the area and compare everything with the areas that they were used to visiting themselves. He had only just finished changing into a pair of jeans and a simple black shirt that he had to button up a bit when he leaned down to inspect the last message that Hermione had scribbled at him. Squinting at the words, Ron pulled his head back a little and glanced around his room. He had halfway expected for either Fred or George (or both) to jump out at him just then with big goofy grins on their faces. It wouldn't have been a completely insane thing to think, considering that both of his brothers constantly felt the need to give him a hard time of it with their practical jokes. But when he saw no one there, Ron leaned back over his journal again and stared down at the words.

Can I ask what your, er, take on all this is?

She wanted to know. Well. Ron wasn't going to just bloody well stand around and play the role of a mindless pansy by scribbling back at her. That was more of a Percy deal, wasn't it? And Ron was no Percy Weasley! Straightening up, he gave the journal one final look before he turned away and started for the door. Ron would have apparated straight over, but he didn't want to risk anything. Not with the way his magic had been lately. Splinching himself? Definitely not something that he wanted to deal with right now. So Ron hailed the Knight Bus on over and took a very unsteady ride on over to Hermione's flat.

When he got there, Ron nervously ran his fingers through his hair as he awkwardly stood in front of her front door. He didn't bother knocking for a good while. There was a lot of pacing back and forth, several moments of reconsideration, and finally a solid nudge from that same Gryffindor courage that usually almost got him killed. Let's hope this works out a little bit differently, Ron thought to himself as he raised a fist upward, let it hang in the air for a moment, and then finally landed a few knocks on Hermione's door. Then he stepped back and began to consider running away as fast as his legs could carry him.

Hermione was sitting on the couch in the main room of her flat, skimming through The Daily Prophet, which she'd already read about 5 times that day. She was trying not to look at her journal, laying there on her coffee table completely useless. There was yet to be a response from Ron regarding her question, and it worried her. Half-way through the conversation she'd considered dropping the subject altogether and telling him it didn't matter.

But it did matter, which is why she pushed all her worries aside to try to get through to him. Now, however, as she sat in silence, every possible ending to this was creeping into her mind. More specifically the ones that ended badly. Like this causing an awkward air to forever hover over their friendship, or, even worse, an end to their friendship. Her intention had not been to scare him away. Hermione sighed, folding the paper up and walked into her bedroom.

Scattered all over her dresser, neatly placed, were pictures from school and after of her, Ron, Harry, other friends and family. She folded her arms and tilted her head, looking at him. Had she just jeopardized all this? Kind of, but then again, before she said anything she'd felt like she was going to burst open most of the time, so it was really a lose-lose situation. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Hermione heard a knock on her front door. She paused, then walked back into the main room and over to it.

Looking through the small hole in her door, she saw the familiar frame of a familiar red head. Oh dear. She thought, not sure what was about to happen. Taking in a deep breath, Hermione opened the door. Ron was standing there, looking anxious and a little flustered. She gave a small smile. "Hi, Ron." Was all she could muster up.

He was literally about to bolt for the steps when he saw the door open. Suddenly, it felt like something was rabidly attacking his chest. It took Ron a good moment to realize that it was his heart that was bothering him, not some sort of mad animal trying to do him in. Still, it was a dangerous thing with the way that his heart was reacting to all of this. Ron was slightly fearful of the idea of having a heart attack right on the spot. Taking in a few breaths, Ron ran his fingers through his hair again and met Hermione's smile with a weak one of his own.

"Hi." Getting that word out alone was painfully difficult. Ron didn't know if he was going to be able to manage the rest that he planned on having follow. "Er, can I, y'know, come in? I reckon we've got a bit of talking to do."

Hermione felt frozen to the spot, but after a second she managed take a step back and make room for him to come in. "Right, of course. Sorry." At least she didn't seem to be the only one capable of spontaneously combusting within moments. To be honest, Ron looked a bit terrified.

Once he'd entered, she closed the front door, locked it and followed him into the main room of her flat.

"I think you're right. We should talk about this." She started, moving curls out of her eyes. "I'm sorry if I sort of...threw this at you." Please don't let this end badly was all that was going through her mind.

He followed her inside. Arms folding over his chest, Ron couldn't help but shrug. "I think sort of is a bit of an understatement, don't you?" She went right out and said it. And while Hermione suddenly up and being straightforward with him wasn't something that he was going to complain about, the fact that it completely caught him off guard was. Not that he'd complain about it out loud or anything. Now wasn't the time for it.

"Anyway." How was he going to go about this, exactly? "You said that you fancied me." He paused and suddenly frowned. "Now do you mean that in the sense that you're just keen on me as a best mate or like it was with Krum?" That's right. He was going back on that again. Ron wanted a definite answer here. There was no way in hell that he was going to ridicule himself because of a simple misunderstanding.

She opened her mouth to speak, but paused. "I suppose." She replied, taking in a deep breath. It seemed she would be doing it for the rest of the evening should she have a desire to stay standing. "I'd been trying to get the point across but nothing was getting through to you, so I just...said it."

Hermione could feel her cheeks turning red, possibly even a Weasley shade. She arched an eyebrow at the mention of Victor, but refrained from commenting. "Neither." She replied, her hands on her hips. It was now clear what was going on; he wasn't going to say anything about his point of view until he was clear on Hermione's. "I fancy you more than I fancied Victor."

That was it. Really, that was all that Ron needed to hear. She fancies me more than Viktor bloody Krum! How was that possible? Everyone fancied Viktor Krum! Loads! Some people even worshipped the fellow. Literally. Ron squinted off at Hermione. Was she being serious with him? Because if she wasn't, then this really was a rotten joke to be playing on a bloke. He stared at her for the longest time before he chose to take action. Arms uncrossing from his chest, he nodded slowly and a smile slowly began to break it's way across his face.

"Well. Good. Because I'm much more fanciable than that git," Ron told her. "And, er, I'm a bit -- well, look. I fancy you too, all right? I have for ages. And I'm sorry that it took me so long to tell you, but you, Hermione, are the most difficult member of the female species that I've ever met and is it okay if we snog a bit now 'cause I think I'd really like that." His words came out fast and were probably more than difficult to keep up with. But at least he got them out, right? That was something. A start, at the very least.

He was just standing there looking at her after she said that last bit about Victor, and Hermione wasn't sure why. She just looked back, waiting for a response, and was relieved to see a smile form on his face. He rushed through his words and was getting all tongue tied, but Hermione couldn't help but smile.

"At least we agree on that," She replied, refraining from going over all the reasons why- they'd be standing there for days, and besides, Ron had just admitted he fancied her too. Hermione felt a mixture of emotions, and it was as though a weight was lifted off her shoulders. "Bloody hell, Ron."

And before she realized what she was doing, Hermione, top student in her class at Hogwart who saw studying and spending time in the library as fun, did something she never thought she would. Hermione jumped on Ron and kissed him. "That's not difficult to understand, right?" She asked, pulling away momentarily.

Ron's expression brightened loads. Hermione had kissed him, for Merlin's sake! He had been kissed by Hermione Granger and he was going to die. Well, okay. Maybe not now, because Ron wasn't exactly willing to die when there was a chance be might be able to snog Hermione a bit more later on down the road here (or sooner), but it felt like he was going to die. In a good way. Cheeks flared up, Ron grinned off at Hermione and said, "Not really, no. I think I've got the message." That being said, he reached out, hauled her toward him, and pressed his mouth against hers with much enthusiasm.

Grin still fully intact, Ron yanked his head back and said, "You, Hermione, are the most brilliant person ever and I'm wicked sorry that I made you wait for so long."

Hermione still had that feeling like she was going to spontaneously combust, but it had turned into a good feeling. Actually, make that a great feeling. She had just jumped on Ron and kissed him, in one moment she'd portrayed all the feelings she'd been harboring for the longest time. "I'm glad you got it." She laughed as they went in for round two.

"Thanks, but I don't think I can be that brilliant since it's taken me all these years to tell you." Hermione leaned her forehead against his as she continued speaking. "I've fancied you a very long time."

"Maybe, but I can make good on my word when I say that I've fancied you longer," Ron shot back. There was always something about her. Even in first year. But in that case, Ron didn't know that he fancied her. Just that there was something about her that he couldn't quite place his finger on. Of course, Ron thought that it was mostly because she was a stuffy little know-it-all that needed to mind her own business. After all, who was she to have nosed in on him, his chocolate frogs, and Harry sodding Potter back in their first year? That was what he had initially thought upon his first meeting. Now that he looked back on it, it kind of amused him.

Clearing his throat, Ron slowly pulled away from Hermione and glanced down at his throat. "Bugger. I'm 'sposed to be meeting up with a few people for drinks. Not that -- er, I could always ditch them. Or you could just come along. Drink up with me and mine. I'll introduce you to some of the people I work with, yeah? And I'll...you know, show them the girl that I'm dating." He raised his eyebrows at Hermione. "I think."

"I guess I'll have to your word on that," She responded. Hermione had always liked Ron, well, after they became friends. She realized she fancied him somewhere around their second or third year, but she'd always found him to be the one who could always make her laugh and smile. "But it's obvious we're both the reason it took this long."

Hermione paused at this prospect, partly because she was the slightest bit afraid of what his friends would think, partly because she was a little surprised he'd asked her to go out with him and his friends in the first place, and partly because he'd just called her his girlfriend. She looked at him and smiled. Why not? It would be good for her to go out and meet new people. And she certainly wasn't ready for Ron to leave yet.

"Yeah." Hermione finally said, a real, honest smile on her face. It'd been a while since she'd been this happy. "That'd be nice. To go out, have a drink. Meet people who work with the boy I'm dating." So there is was. Somehow in the midst of all their tangled up words, they'd just made it official. Still smiling, she raised an eyebrow. "So, where're you meeting them?"

Hermione had a feeling things were going to be good. Really good.

"There's some muggle bar or something that they want to look into," Ron informed her. "I reckon it might be good to have someone who knows a thing or two about how to get around in that society with us." Which, of course, was Hermione. She knew more about muggles than any of the people they were meeting, that was for certain. He gestured down toward the clothes that he was wearing. "Which would explain my lack of robes."

Hermione was his girlfriend. The feeling that twisted his way into his chest at the idea made him grin. "Anyway. They're a real friendly lot, all of them." He frowned a little. "Well, except for Hodge. Can't seem to keep his mouth shut half the time. But I reckon he'll be distracted by the bird he's dragging along, so we've got nothing to worry about. And anyway," he offered Hermione a slightly sheepish look, "I think you're used to gits by now, eh? Between me, Harry, and all my brothers and all. Can't be too bad."

"Yeah, it might be a good idea, but they're not that different. Just what they sell." She looked at his outfit, not having paid much attention to it before. "That would explain it. You look nice." Hermione herself was also wearing muggle apparel since she was a muggleborn and brought up as a muggle. Jeans and a form-fitting blue shirt had been her choice of apparel for the evening.

"I'm sure I'll like them," Hermione assured him. "Yeah, you could say I've run into a few gits here and there, but you're not so bad." She teased. "I'll grab my jacket and we'll go, alright?" Before he could respond, she couldn't help herself and gave him a quick kiss before walking to her closet. It was almost an addiction.
