"That's true," Dina soothed. Even though grapes were cheaper than a cheese plate, Dina knew Spencer's bizarre logic-- with the cheese plate, he would just pick it up and pay. With grapes, he'd pour over the different bunches, making sure he got the best one. So, to him, grapes signified more thought. His first gifts to her had taken some figuring out...
Roger smiled sheepishly, caught at his lie.
"I just wanted to see my friends," his eyes grew innocent and wide, whereas Dina's grew narrower. Her attention, however, was diverted by Serena's one track mind.
"We can make sangria without oranges!" Dina laughed forcedly. "We have raspberries, it'll be a fun new twist."
"I love twists!" Roger piped in, comically sincere.
Ignoring Serena's inquiries, Dina picked up an appetizer and forced it into the witch's mouth.
"Chicken bite!" she enthused, "Prepared them last night!"
Roger picked up the slack.
"But my aunt Maude said that I should always buy lean steaks," he urged, making eye contact with Dina briefly.
Make Serena stop!
Eventually, thanks to the strained efforts of the two, BBQ equilibrium had been returned, and they were back to chatting and mingling as before.
