Tag to Terry :)
Who: Terry Boot & Aidan Chambers.
Where: Terry's flat.
What: Aidan is still obstinate and brings over all the things he ever borrowed from Terry to 'officially' terminate their friendship. He gets a surprise.
When: Afternoon.
Rating: TBD.
Status: Closed. Incomplete.

It felt weird to think that the remains of their friendship could so easily be wrapped up in a neat little box. There were a few books, some music, a brightly coloured shirt (Aidan still recalled the party after which Terry lent him the shirt all-too-vividly) and for some reason a pair of chopsticks. That was all that was left of their friendship.

Aidan swallowed nervously and tried to focus in the lingering anger but it didn't help. He felt horrible. Guilty. Betrayed. Too judgemental. Lied to. Truth be told, he had no bloody clue what he felt and only wanted to get things over with.

The Irishman sighed, angrily pulled a strand of hair behind his ear (which immediately fell into his face again) and knocked on the door to Terry's flat. He was going to shove the box into Terry's hands and leave. Simple, right?

After seeing Aidan and watching one of the most important people he had in his life walk away, ending their friendship, Terry's already unsteady mentality declined further. His best friend hated him, the girl he thought he'd found wasn't what he was looking for, and for the first time he was without much to do besides work. And as far as he could tell he hadn't done anything to deserve any of it, which hurt.

His new schedule: get up, go to work, be miserable, take numerous cigarette breaks (he was up to almost a pack a day), skip lunch, work some more, go home and actually bring paperwork with him, attempt to do work, have cereal for dinner if he was hungry (he wasn't), have another cigarette or two and go to bed to have yet another sleepless night. And even though Aidan hated him, in the midst of it all, Terry hadn't given up trying to do research for the DA reformation.

So, when Aidan knocked on Terry's door, Terry was sitting on his couch, a large number of papers one different topics scattered around him. He'd been staring at them for at least an hour, and his eyes, complete with dark circles underneath them, were starting to hurt. As Terry was about to take a smoke break to try to clear his head, the sound of someone at his door interrupted him. He walked over to the door, opened it, and- oh.

"Can I help you with something?" Terry asked bluntly, not feeling like getting into it again with Aidan again. His nerves were gone.

Aidan pushed the box into Terry's arms as planned and rattled down his text. "Ye can take this an'..."

The Irishman stopped abruptly, his carefully prepared text forgotten. Terry was so pale and those dark circles under his eyes looked worrying. And that smell. He had been smoking and Aidan knew that his friend only did that when stressed.

All of a sudden Aidan recalled their last conversation over the journals where Terry had alluded to his stress-problems and the Ravenclaw almost flushed with shame. How could he have been so selfish to forget Terry's troubles?

Aidan blinked, snatched the box back and walked into Terry's flat, moving more decisively than a few moments ago. "When is the last time you ate somethin'? Or slept?" He turned around and stared accusingly at Terry. "Ye look 'orrible. Are ye tryin' ter kill yerself?" Not even thinking whether he had the right to do so or not, Aidan put down the box and opened the windows widely. He was going to make sure that Terry was all right and then he'd go on being a prat.

Terry took the box, and started to look to see what was in it before Aidan grabbed it back and made his way in his flat. "What--"

Before he knew it, Aidan was opening his windows and bossing him around. "Hold on a minute," Terry said pushed his way over and closing the windows. "I don't need you bossing me around, I can take care of myself. It isn't your business what I do, alright?" He felt himself starting to get flustered and moved a few feet away from Aidan.

"I'm guessing you came over to drop off that box. Well, I have the box. I think you're all set." He walked over to the door. "Thanks."

"My pleasure," Aidan answered distractedly and tried to tug Terry over to the window in order to survey his friend's face in the light of day. He didn't like what he saw so far.

"Ye look like hell, Terry." Aidan noted with a frown. "What have ye been doin'?" Fact was that Aidan seriously contemplated dragging Terry to St.Mungo's. He looked so worn and plain and simply exhausted that Aidan himself - who was in the middle of exams which were anything but relaxing - looked as if he were perfectly fine in comparison.

"Terry." Aidan said seriously. "Ye need air an' ye need nutrients an' for Merlin's sake - rest." Aidan's eyes scanned his friend's flat for that medication Terry had told him about. He'd known that medication wasn't the answer.

"Aidan," Terry said, trying to get out of his friend's grasp. "I'll thank you not to do that."

He moved back over to the couch and started organizing the papers- well, maybe more like piling them up to give himself something to do. "I'm fine. Busy and all that, working." Terry turned to look at Aidan, he was getting defensive. "I am perfectly capable of handling myself. You don't need to tell me how to. In fact, you're more than welcome to go away and tell someone else how to live their life because last time I checked you didn't give a damn about me or what I did."

Terry took a deep breath. "Bloody hell.." He put the pile of papers down, pulled a cigarette and lighter from his pocket and lit it. "I think you've done enough, thanks." He stated, not looking at Aidan.

"Really. I see. Yer doin' a grand job of keepin' yerself alive." Aidan remained unimpressed as he slipped into what colleagues had come to call his infamous Healer-mode.

"So I'd be mistaken if I said yer sufferin' from dizziness? Problems with the concentration, headaches and sudden, unexpected vertigo on occasion?" Aidan tilted his head to one side, the frown remaining fixed on his face. "Listen. We can do this the easy way an' ye can agree ter cooperate or I will get ye ter St.Mungo's. I'll drag ye there if I have ter." And, Aidan suspected, in the sorry state he was in Terry didn't even stand the hint of a chance.

Being his usual obstinate self, Aidan stalked over to the window and opened it again.

Terry looked at Aidan, his brow furrowed with a look of anger and frustration on his face. So yes, maybe he had been dizzy. Maybe he'd been having headaches and trouble concentration, along with the trouble sleeping and the fact he'd hardly eaten at all lately. But he'd be damned if he was going to admit to Aidan he was right.

"I'm not going to Mungos." He stated very sharply. The breeze coming in made Terry very cold and he shifted himself around in an attempt to shake the feeling off. "Look, I've got work to do and I'm sure you've got some sort of plans with you girlfriend or something, so why don't you just go? You had no trouble the other night. I'll handle my own problems." The hurt about the entire thing with Tracey reflected in his eyes, but he did his best to cover it with a puff of smoke.

Aidan hesitated for a moment, the topic of Tracey bringing up a weird mixture between anger and shame in him. Then he looked at his friend and shrugged it off. "Yer an obstinate idiot, Boot." Aidan remarked conversationally.

"Lucky for ye, I'm just as obstinate an' no, I'm not lettin' ye hurt yerself any more than ye already have." Aidan shook his head and took a deep breath, suddenly unable to meet Terry's eyes. "Look. It was wrong ter blow up on ye like that. I was hurt an' scared an' mostly I'm still scared that she'll wake up an' find she really prefers ye over me because I'm shite at this whole 'chivalry'-thing. But yer still me friend." Aidan glared defiantly at Terry. "Whether ye want ter or not."

"I am not an idiot." Terry started to respond before he stopped and looked at Aidan. "You.." He put his hands in front of himself in a moment of disbelief. "You thought she might suddenly decide she likes me instead?" He shook his head. "I doubt that would ever happen. Besides, birds love you; especially when you pull that accent." Terry tried a weak smile before shrugging. "Besides, chivalry doesn't appeal to everyone. And I'm not that great Aidan, you shouldn't compare like that."

He put his cigarette out. "But I'm sorry this happened. I--" Terry moved and suddenly was overcome by a rush of dizziness. "I- I need to sit down." He took the few steps back to the couch and dropped down, head lowered into his hands in an attempt to make everything stop moving. "Fuck." Terry took slow, deep breaths with his head still down. "Can you close the window? It's freezing in here."

Aidan gave his friend a look that showed his doubt about whether Terry was being an idiot or not when suddenly Terry's countenance changed. Aidan didn't give himself time to think and marched over to Terry, hexed the window shut with a nonchalant flick of his wand before performing an air-cleaning charm to get rid of the smoke.

"Terry." Aidan laid his hands on his friend's shoulders. "Lay back. Put yer feet up." He gently - but rather insistently - pushed Terry back, trying to get him to lay down.

After Terry had the opportunity to stop himself for a moment, he started feeling better. "Aidan, I'm alright--" He started moving to get up. "I can sit up, I don't need to lay down like some sort of invalid." He sat up with a little force and had to lay down right away again. "Jesus Christ.." He said, suddenly feeling horrible all over. "Do you see the bottle of meds?...kitchen counter next to the fridge."

In truth, Terry had only taken the medication for three days; after having the fight with Aidan he hadn't seen much of a point.

"Stay down," Aidan snapped and stopped half-way on his way to the kitchen. "I'm not above tyin' ye ter the bloody couch if yer a fussy patient."

Aidan crouched down in the kitchen, rummaged around a little and finally returned with the medication which, in itself wasn't that bad. Of course, it couldn't counter-act the neglect of days if not weeks. Aidan sat down next to Terry and frowned at his friend.

"Put yer feet up an' keep yer head down or yer circulation will go crazy again." Aidan sighed and rubbed his forehead. "An' now I want ter know since when yer havin' these kinds of problems."

Terry stopped moving when Aidan snapped at him and just laid where he was. Everything was spinning and his hands went to rest on his head.

"I don't know." Terry replied to Aidan's questioning. He didn't feel like being interrogated right now. "I've always had these problems, it's nothing new." He took in a few deep breaths. "Things have just been crazy lately so I got a bit overwhelmed. I don't know."

"Ye didn't have them quite like this." Aidan observed in a softer voice and reached out to take Terry's pulse. That at least seemed to be fine. What his friend needed was sleep and perhaps a holiday. Too bad that this wasn't exactly what life had planned for them.

"Terry, ye need ter give yerself some rest or yer body is goin' ter take it by force." The Irishman sighed. "Ye shouldn't go ter work for at least a week an' just allow yourself ter relax." He cast a meaningful look at the papers and plans Terry had been working on. "Don't even think about that. I mean it. Not before yer...remotely normal again."

"Not quite like this, no." Terry gave a small, some what bitter laugh as he dropped his hands as Aidan took his pulse.

"What?" Terry shot up in his seat, ignoring any dizziness that returned to him. "Aidan, I can't just not go to work." He waved his hands in front of him and shook his head. "I have too much to do." He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Besides, I'm alright. I just...I'll stay in for the evening. Be good as new tomorrow." He waved any ideas of taking time off as he moved to get up.

"No, ye are not goin' ter work for a week." Aidan replied firmly and added a stern glare as good measure. "I'll try an' appeal ter yer sense now, so listen."

Aidan summoned a glass of water and handed it to Terry. "Ye can try and sit up again - slowly, mind ye. Now, ye've been deprivin' yer body of sleep, proper food and Merlin's knows what else. Ye need that rest, so I suggest ye get it. Give yourself time ter wind down again or there will be a time when ye will require your energy but ye won't be able to act. And that is potentially dangerous ter yerself as well as ter others." That sounded frightfully sensible, Aidan thought with barely-hidden satisfaction.

Terry sighed, looked at Aidan and slowly sat up. He took a sip from the water as he listened to Aidan, who was sounding very sensible. Terry considered it, taking off work and staying in, but he wouldn't be able to stand staying in all week. Besides, there was a lot of work to be done and time was important.

"I know you're not going to drop this," He commented as he put his water down and grabbed the bottle of medicine Aidan had gotten. "But I'd go mad staying in for a week." Terry opened the bottle and tipped a single pill into his palm. "And I don't think I need to stay in for a week." He put the pill in his mouth, grabbed his water, took a sip and swallowed it. "I'll see how things are in a day or two and go from there, alright? And in the meantime there's no reason to leave all this untouched or not looked over." Terry put his water down and went to grab the pile of plans for the DA, his stubbornness getting the best of him; he knew he wasn't well, but he wasn't convinced he was ill enough to be completely bed-ridden.

Aidan watched Terry attentively and finally nodded in satisfaction. Terry was lucky to be young and healthy (apart from that stubbornness but it didn't fall to Aidan to cure it, the young Healer thought) but even those resources would be used up at some point.

As much as he hated to admit it, right now Terry needed the medication and if his friend didn't go easier on himself Aidan saw no chance that Terry would be able to go without it any time soon. He frowned at that thought. "Mental work tires ye as well. I'm speakin' of a holiday. Free time? Sunshine? Doin' nothin'? Perhaps ye should look it up."

But, knowing Terry - and especially a Terry in this special mood of stubbornness - Aidan knew that he had to give in at least a little."Fine. Three days yer doin' nothin', then ye can start workin' on the DA again but ye stay at home. How's that for a deal?"

"I know what a holiday is." Terry replied, before he looked at the pile of papers and decided to leave them where they were. "Fine. Three days." Terry nodded. "But I'm not closing myself in completely. If I want to go out I'll go out, alright?"

He leaned back after a moment, his brow furrowed. "Aidan?" Terry paused and looked at his hands, feeling a bit ridiculous. "This- I mean...are we...okay? Still friends?"

"Aye, ye can go out but ye can't do anythin' that looks like work." Aidan agreed with a grin, all too satisfied that Terry acted reasonable.
He started saying something else when Terry's question caught him by surprise. Aidan hesitated and looked at Terry.

"Friends?" He asked softly. "No." That was rather decisive. "Best friends." Aidan grinned and held out his hand for Terry to take. "We're the bloody best friends ever an' in fact I insist after that calm week ye come over to me new flat an' I cook for ye an' Tracey." Aidan smiled a little shyly. "We never had a party ter celebrate the new flat after all and...wait. How did ye know that Tracey an' I are serious now? Because we are. All stringy an' such." He couldn't help but grin like the fool in love that he was.

"Going for a walk or something doesn't sound like work, does it?" He returned the smile.

For a moment Terry believed that Aidan had just told him they were no longer friends, and was about to have possibly the biggest freak out when Aidan said 'best friends' and Terry froze. "You're a git, I actually believed you were about to say no." He grinned back and took the offered hand. "Come eat with you and Tracey? I...wait, what did I know? You're a couple now?" The grin got even bigger. "That's great!" He took in the goofy look on Aidan's face. "I should have know, the look on your face says it all."

"No, going for a walk is allowed." Aidan smiled, now perfectly at ease again. He hadn't even realized how much the argument with Terry (which had been his own fault, Aidan had to admit) had worn him down. It felt like an invisible weight had been pulled off his chest and once again the Irishman found himself incapable to stop smiling.

"An' yes, we're together. She saw me...er...let's say she saw me an' got angry for reasons we don't need ter get into right now an' then we argued - again - an' she came home with me an' stayed." Aidan paused for breath as he had completely forgotten such trifles in his enthusiasm. "She says she wants ter try it. This relationship thing." Aidan paused and thought about it then suddenly looked slightly unnerved. "Terry, ye have ter tell me how to woo her. I need ter make sure she wants ter stay." Merlin, why wasn't there a handbook?

Terry felt himself relaxing more and more. "Alright." He laughed at how Aidan just couldn't stop smiling and actually felt okay for the first time in what felt like a long time. "It's good to have you back, mate."

He raised an eyebrow. "I can only imagine what you were doing that made her angry." Terry wasn't going to ask for details, he wasn't sure he wanted to know. "But she came with you and stayed, that's good. Give it a go and see--" Wait, did Aidan just say what he thought he said? "Aidan, you don't need my help to woo her. Obviously you're doing something right from what you've told me." To be perfectly honest, Terry didn't feel completely comfortable with the idea of being around Tracey too much, at least until things cooled down a bit. He didn't want to have anymore problems come up. "What would you want me to do, anyway?"

"Ye think I should keep arguin' with 'er an' then we go an' have make-up sex?" Aidan frowned and feigned deep thought. "I'm not sure that'll work in the long run."

"Really, Terry. I need a 'Plan'. I need ter make her want ter stay with me." He bit his bottom lip thoughtfully before he got back to the point. "I already invited ye ter our little party, didn't I? Because really, I can cook. Everybody can." Aidan nodded earnestly. "It says so on the cereal box. Everyone can do it, so ye two can come an' I'll be surrounded by the people I love the most."

Terry shook his head and sighed. "No, obviously I didn't mean you should keep doing that." His brow furrowed slightly. "You can make someone to want to be with you. At most you can try to convince them that they're feeling something that makes it worth staying. So, convince her." He grinned. "Wording makes all the difference, mate."

Leaning forward in his seat, Terry rubbed his chin in thought. "Do something you'll both enjoy, spend some time together. And as for that dinner, first off, what are you trying to accomplish having the three of us there? Not that I don't appreciate being one of the people you love most." Terry cleared his throat. "And what exactly are you making? Not something from a box, right?"

Aidan shrugged and grinned like a little boy who had been caught with his hands in the cookie jar.
"Mate, trust me, it's better if I make something out of a box." Aidan thought for a moment. "Or there's take-away pizza, of course but I wanted to pretend I'm cooking, at least."

The Irishman's grin widened shamelessly at his admission. "Now back to the topic...I don't even know why< she stays in the first place. Looking like she does and being like she is Tracey could have anyone." There was a definite look of wonder on Aidan's face now. "I don't know why she stays. I'd love to know, though, because then I'd do it more often."

Terry rolled his eyes. "You're going to get pizza? No, no, pizza isn't a starting dinner. We'll have to find something better to make, something home style. What does she like to eat?" He leaned his chin in his hand in thought.

"I bet it's the accent." Terry said jokingly, smiling. "But there might not be an actual reason. I mean, what makes you want her to stay? I bet there's no definite way of explaining it. Just don't try to impress her. Obviously she already likes you."
