Who: Tracey Davis & Aidan Chambers.
Where: A Muggle carnival somewhere near London.
What: They try to go on their first regular date and Aidan, in his infinite wisdom, chooses a carnival to expose Tracey to the Muggle world for the first time.
When: Sunday afternoon.
Rating: TBD.
Status: Closed. Incomplete.

"I could get ye some cotton candy."

Aidan wrapped an arm around Tracey and beamed cheerfully at her. Lately despite his growing fatigue, the Ravenclaw showed an almost uncanny amount of happiness, the source of which he currently held in his arms. "Have ye ever tried cotton candy? Or some of these sugared apples?"

Aidan's smile remained resolute and unmovable even as they pushed past a group of thugs who gave them looks filled with disdain and Aidan, ever eager to evade conflicts, quickened his pace a little to escape their jeers which followed them all the way around the first couple of stalls until they found themselves in the middle of the carnival, right next to a fortune teller's stall.

"So. Where do ye want ter go first?"

Back to the wizarding world, Tracey wanted to say. Stuck in the midst of a sea of Muggles and giant machines with flashing lights that hurt her eyes, Tracey felt decidedly out of her element. It didn't help that she was wearing extremely odd clothing, although Aidan had assured her that genes and tea shirts were the norm among Muggles. From the looks of it, he was right. Still, that didn't stop Tracey from feeling extremely uncomfortable in it.

Still, she couldn't very well admit to that now, especially when this whole thing was being done on a dare. Aidan had accused her of being scared of Muggles; Tracey had very vehemently denied that, and now she was trying to prove it and not act as scared as she actually did feel.

"I don't know," she said, hoping she sounded more disdainful than nervous. She eyed a man clad in some sort of black garment with metal spikes sticking out of it. "What's fun?"

"Well..." Aidan looked around and amused himself with the thought of what Tracey would tell a Muggle who claimed to be a witch and might quite possibly try to tell Tracey secrets about magic. Then he recalled the probable ending of such a meeting and quickly thought of diverting the lovely Slytherin by his side before she could get tempted.

Quite decisively Aidan marched toward the next stall. "Look, here we can throw balls at the tin cans an' then win a stuffed animal." Now that he said it out loud, it did sound a little silly. But still better than 'Look, love, there's a machine that turns us upside down until we want to part with our lunch. An' yes, Muggles call that fun.' Little tin cans it were, instead.

"I could try an' win a stuffed...rhinoceros or whatever that is for ye." Or he could make an idiot out of himself.

"What would I do with a stuff rhinoceros?" Tracey asked, giving him a strange look. "It's hideous and doesn't match anything that I've got." She stood back, however, and watched as someone paid the vendor money to get a few balls and started throwing them at the cans. She liked the idea of throwing things; she was quite good at it. She was certainly sure that she could do a lot better at the bloke who was trying it now, since his balls kept bouncing off the cans. "Here, let me try throwing them, and you can have the rhino."

"What would ye do without a stuffed rhino?" Aidan smirked, enjoying Tracey's attitude far too much. He had to admit that at first he hadn't expected the Slytherin - his Slytherin - to go through with this but it turned out that nothing motivated Miss Tracey Davis as much as a dare did. And now she wanted to win a stuffed animal for him.

Aidan's smile brightened and he pulled her toward the stall. "We both will throw." He said decisively and handed the owner some money after which the other man put an assembly of brightly-coloured balls in front of them.

The first time Tracey was unsuccessful, she thought it was just because she hadn't thrown hard enough and that the tins were heavier than they looked. The second time, she noticed some wobbling but no tipping over. The third time, she realised what was going on.

"Those cheats!" she said hotly. "They're weighing down the cans so you can't throw them over! Did you really think anyone would be fooled?" she shouted at the vendor, picking up a ball to throw at the man.

Aidan hadn't even touched the ball when Tracey started yelling at the vendor and he turned to look curiously from her to him and back again as the vendor, started huffing indignantly and turned an interesting shade of puce.

"Tracey?" Aidan asked quietly and laid a hand on her arm. Having seen her throw (and Merlin! That girl could aim! Aidan belatedly realized just how lucky he had been to evade all those glasses she had thrown after him) Aidan, too, had noticed that something was off. Nevertheless, he still couldn't allow her to hurt the vendor.

Unfortunately the man seemed to possess no sense of self-preservation as he turned to glare at Tracey. "Of course they won't fall if you throw like a girl!" He said in a loud carrying voice and several bystanders laughed. Aidan paled.

"Tracey...don't." He said urgently, already picturing them in a holding cell.

But it was too late. Tracey had been insulted, and she'd never been good at taking insults -- especially when it came from people whom she thought was below her, and a Muggle carnival vendor was certainly below her.

"You stupid, rude, little Muggle," she snarled, taking out her wand. "Are you looking to be turned into a toad?"

"What did you call me? Muggle? What's a -" The vendor snarled and Aidan stepped between them.

"No, no. She said mu...dpie. Mudpie." He nodded vigorously and grabbed Tracey's hand. "And now dat dis 'as been solved, we can leave an' all be 'appy, right?" He kept a grip on Tracey's hand and tried to block her way to keep her from hexing the man, hoping that she wouldn't hex him in her anger. "We're all adults, aren't we?" Aidan babbled on and might have even succeeded in distracting the vendor if it hadn't been for the crowd around them that urged the other man to keep his face by being nasty.

"Yeah," He laughed. "Take your stupid, blonde slut and run, little boy."

For a moment Aidan was so angry that he almost forgot to breathe. Likewise, he never noticed how he let go of Tracey's hand and moved forward.

Tracey caught his arm and yanked him away from the vendor, but only so she could raise her wand to get a better shot. While she had no illusions of what she was, she certainly wasn't going to stand around and let a Muggle call her that.

The vendor, seeing Aidan pulled back by his tiny slip of a girlfriend, started laughing -- up until the point when his nose sprouted into a pig's snout.

The crowd collectively gasped and took a step back. They'd been expecting a brawl, not this.

A mere moment of diverting Aidan's attention was enough as when he turned back the vendor had gone pig snout on them. He knew he was supposed to be angry or shocked but some weird part of Aidan's insisted on smiling. In fact, the Ravenclaw had trouble keeping serious, despite knowing that his behaviour was absolutely wrong and immature.

"Tracey." Aidan whispered. "The statute of secrecy, we can't just..."

And that was when the first terrified Muggle went crazy, pointed at them and started yelling something incomprehensible. Unfortunately the crowd didn't need any sensible words – they merely needed something to snap them out of their shock and transform them from a crowd into a mob.

Aidan swore and pulled out his wand. This was all wrong and they were going to get into so much trouble.

Tracey was regularly in trouble, so she didn't worry too much about that. Of course, she wasn't usually in this kind of trouble, and certainly not in the same country where her brother was imprisoned for his stance against muggles and muggleborns, but at the moment she was too incensed to care about that. She pointed her wand at the mob. "Who's next?" she challenged. Stupid, arrogant muggles. She'd hex them all if she had to.

The rest of his life flashed rapidly before Aidan's eyes and though it was shared with Tracey, the fact that they shared it behind bars in Azkaban for breaching the Statute of Secrecy detracted from the overall amount of joy he felt about it.

Recalling all those tedious Mind Healing lessons Aidan had worked so hard to repress, the Irishman once against stepped in front of Tracey, effectively drawing all attention to himself. "Oi! Look 'here!" He called, reversed the vendor's nose to normal and waved, so he could be sure everyone was looking at him. Once that was settled Aidan raised his wand. "Obliviate!"

He looked around for a moment, judging from the confused looks on people's faces that the spell had worked. Aidan released a breath he hadn't even noticed he'd been holding and grabbed Tracey's arm firmly.

"Come on. We need ter leave." He could feel another of their infamous arguments coming on. Probably followed by one of their infamous ways to make up again.

"Let...go!" Tracey hissed, struggling to free herself from his grasp, but he was holding too firmly and moving too quickly for her to get good enough traction to pull away. She settled for shouting at the confused mob instead.

"Bloody fucking Muggles!" she screamed. "You're all vermin, you hear that? Vermin! And I'll turn you all to rats if Ravenclaw here would just LET GO OF ME!"

This wasn't working and Tracey was anything but helpful here, Aidan thought and gritted his teeth in frustration. Getting annoyed with the lack of help the Irishman pulled her along a little more quickly and then, as he felt that they were moderately safe, spontaneously pulled Tracey behind an empty booth and glared.

"What the 'ell were ye thinkin'?" He raged. "We're lucky we didn't get into trouble with the Ministry on the spot! Ye can't just bloody go out an' hex Muggles! Ye can insult them, break their nose but not. Use. ANY. MAGIC." It never occurred to Aidan that right now he wasn't too discreet either.

"But did you hear what he said to me?" Tracey demanded. She would have hexed anyone for that, muggle or not. "Besides, they're only muggles. Aren't there like another ten billion of them?"

She finally yanked her arm free from his grip. "I told you this was going to be a bad idea. I'm never coming to the muggle world again, dare or not. I'm going home."

Aidan was about to agree with Tracey considering that if Tracey hadn't hexed the vendor then he would have doubtlessly attacked the man for speaking to her that way. Of course then she had to go and make a remark about Muggles. Aidan was speechless for a moment.

"Is that really how ye think about Muggles? I guess it's a good thing I didn't yet invite ye ter our big family dinner then, huh? Because I have a whole lot of Muggles in me family." And he had told them about that girl he met and they were dying to meet Tracey. In retrospect Aidan realized that this might not have been one of his smarter ideas. And yet - Aidan wanted her to meet his family. Loud, crazy and obnoxious as they were.

Tracey could have handled the part about them being loud, crazy and obnoxious. It was the Muggle part that was - and always had been - an issue. Even without Daphne's reminder, Tracey had always been aware of the fact. "Of course it's a good thing you didn't invite me," she snapped. "Come on, Ravenclaw. Just because we have strings in our relationship doesn't mean we need to see each other's family."

"No, it doesn't." Aidan admitted, his shoulders slumping. "It just...it would have been nice, ye know?" He gave Tracey a trademarked 'I'm a kicked puppy be nice to me!'-look and held out his hand, silently wondering how in Merlin's name they were going to make this work in the long run. After all, there were birthdays and Christmas Parties to attend. For the first time Aidan realized how utterly out of place he would probably be with her family.

"Come on." He said quietly. "Let's go to some magic place. There must be something nice we can do in a place where we both belong." But did such a place really exist?

Tracey crossed her arms over her chest, although she started heading back the way they came. Returning to the magical world was the best idea he'd had all day. She'd told him that the muggle world was a waste of time, but he just wouldn't believe that she wouldn't like it.

"Look," she said after a moment, "if you're looking for someone to take home to Mummy or frolic around the muggle world with you, that's not me. You need to find a nice little Hufflepuff or something to hold hands and skip along Diagon Alley with, because I'm never going to be that, and if you try to make me into that I'm only going to hex you."

The corners of Aidan's mouth twitched in amusement at the mental image and before he knew it, a wide grin spread over his face.

"Slytherin." He said and pulled her into a spontaneous hug. "Don't ever change." Aidan told Tracey's hair.
"If I wanted a nice little Hufflepuff, then rest assured – I'd have one. I want a Slytherin. A complicated, irritable, aggravating Slytherin." His smile turning softer, Aidan stepped back a little and gently brushed a strand of Tracey's hair behind her ear.

"If you manage to suffer me until November the 16th then I dare you to meet my family. The wee one is turning five and no, I won't force you to sing."

"I wouldn't meet your filthy, muggle-loving family if they offered me all the champagne in France," Tracey said cheerfully. There, let him think he could still take her home to meet Mummy then. "Let's go."

OOC: Should we slowly close this and think of a new thread? It feels about right now, doesn't it? Perhaps something simultaneously to the Terry/Tracey/Aidan-thread? I'll mail you and Becka about it by the way :)
