Theodore's expressions remained guarded and sombre while Charlotte and Tracey left and the former entered the room once more. The room was a flurry of activity and emotions but he pretended to take no interest.
"You needn't worry about me in such troublesome times." He already had his share of them, after all. "I understand that you both suffer a great loss with the loss of Mrs. Davis." He spoke quietly and deliberately as he did when he wasn't pressed for time. "I take it that you both mourn in different manners, even though you both experience great loss." He took a short peek at Charlotte. Of course his father had considered her a sensible match for himself, and Theodore did agree. She was quite intelligent, well read and accomplished, as a good woman should be. Of course he merely considered her--but that was more than could be said about most people.
