Daphne almost- almost, mind you- jolted as he took her hand in his. Had it really been so long ago that such meant something much more than a friendly gesture? Long enough, she thought, dragging her gaze away from their joined hands and attempting to ignore the comfortable familiarity of the feeling, for him to find a wife and marry.
Even in her bitterness, however, Daphne couldn't help but be concerned for him as he snatched up a glass of champagne. "Thank you," she replied to his compliment, unable to hold back a smile as he offered his trademark. "Nothing too terribly exciting, unfortunately. Paperwork and that sort of thing."
"And what have-" she stopped herself halfway through the sentence, unsure if she really wanted an answer. Of course, by that time it was too late; she couldn't very well leave the sentence hanging. She cleared her throat and attempted to look nonchalant. "And what have you been up to, Seth?"
