Who: Terry Boot and Aidan Chambers
What: Running into each other, catching up.
Where: The Leaky Cauldron
Status: Incomplete
Rating: TBA

Terry walked into the Leaky Cauldron and took a seat at the bar. "Tom," he greeted with a nod. Ordering a shot of whiskey and a beer, Terry took off his jacket and glanced around. There was a decent amount of people there that evening, but he didn't recognize even one of the faces he saw. Upon realizing this he turned back to the bar just as Tom put his drinks down.

Terry downed the shot right off and gave it a few seconds to hit him before following it up with some of his beer. It'd been a shame no one'd been able to go out, and with the pile of paperwork he'd been greeted with at work upon his return, he could've used a good night out.

Aidan had been back in London for less thant twenty-four hours and already he felt like he needed a break. Surely, it might not have been one of his smarter ideas to make the move now where he was in the middle of his preparations to take his tests in St.Mungo's and it might not have been one of his smarter ideas to wait with the move until the last possible moment but Aidan had always been a supporter of breaking through stereotypes. The stereotype he had successfully blown apart was the idea that Ravenclaws did smart things that didn't bring them to the Leaky Cauldron at the end of the day, longing for a pint.

It was in that (slightly disheveled) condition that Aidan stumbled into the Leaky, his eyes idly searching for a free spot at the bar and finally fell on a familiar face (or familiar back-of-the-head). Aidan's face lit up with a 1000 Galleon-smile.

"TERRY BOOT!"

At the suddenly, and very loud, calling of his name, Terry almost choked on his beer. He coughed a couple times and got control of himself before turning around. Looking to see who's called to him, his eyes fell on a person who hadn't been in the pub a few moments ago.

"AIDAN CHAMBERS!" He yelled back, a little louder than he meant to, as a huge grin appeared on his face and he jumped out of the chair to greet his friend. "Bloody hell, when was the last time I saw you?" He asked, pleased to see a friendly face. "Wait- aren't you in the middle of your training? What're you doing back in London?"

The smile firmly fixed on his face, Aidan easily ignored that the stares of some of the patrons and made his way to Terry.

"I'm almost finished with my training," He grinned, the pride obvious in his voice. "Turns out they didn't have enough places for the post-grad education in Dublin, so I got a place in St. Mungo's." He paused and considered the effect of his words. "As a Healer, of course."

Aidan slumped down next to Terry and stretched his back - the bloody thing started hurting again as it usually did when he skipped a training.

"And what about you? You still driving that infernal bike of yours?" Which was completely insane in Aidan's opinion. But curiously fascinating.

"That must be tough, switching schools and everything so close to the end. At St. Mungos in good, though. Back in London and all." Terry said with a smile, taking his seat again. "Want a drink? It'll be on me."

Noticing the stretching Terry's brow furrowed. "You alright?"

"That infernal bike, that I will someday get you to take a ride on, happens to be parked outside around the corner." Terry replied, laughing. "I'm not going to stop riding that bike anytime soon. I'll never understand why you don't like it."

"I don't know. Because I've got a sense of self-preservation?" Aidan grinned and sat down next to Terry. "What's wrong with walking? The last time I checked that's what we got feet for."

Fact was that Aidan was quite fascinated with the bike of Terry's but he enjoyed their little banter far too much to admit it. One of these days, though, Aidan would ask Terry to teach him how to drive it. And in contrast to his rather unsuccessful attempts to gather his courage and try flying again, this time Aidan really intended to go through with it. The next time, at least.

"The first drink is on you, the second on me. And in the mean time you can fill me in about what's new in London." He stretched again and rubbed the back of his neck, trying to work out the cramps in his muscles. "And that," Aidan explained, indicating his back and neck. "That's my old age. I stop doing my katas and my body immediately protests. Next thing I'll be on my way to false teeth and a wig."

Terry raised an eyebrow and smiled. "I've got a sense of self-preservation." He paused. "It might not be as great as yours, but I like having a bit of fun. I'm sure you'd agree if you'd ever ridden a motorcycle. And as far as walking is concerned, I'm not always on my bike."

"Sounds good to me. What'll you have?" He said, motioning for Tom to come back over. "Now it's me who doesn't understand you. I never got those katas that you do, especially if this is what happens to you. But I suppose if they get you wearing false teeth I could take advantage of a good laugh." He smiled and took another sip of beer, finishing it up.

"But you don't need a magnifying glass to detect my sense of self-preservation," Aidan smirked and nodded at Tom. "A Guinness would be great. Thanks."

Having thus placed his order Aidan turned his attention back to Terry. "You see, the thing is if I don't do them, things just get worse. It's pretty much the only thing that keeps me pain free and no, I have no idea why that is. They told me something about the flow of the chi and something about harmony but I reckon I only understood half of it." Aidan shrugged. "But it works. And it's fun."

"I do like to push my limits aometimes, so I suppose I'll give you that." Terry smiled and thanked Tom, getting another beer for himself as well.

Terry did his best to stay on track with the explaination of the katas, and leaned back a little. "Sounds like yoga to me, and I never liked yoga. My mum used to do that. But running and trying to eat as decently as possible has always done good for. I suppose we're all different, though, yeah? So if you're happy working on your chi and harmony and all that, I'm happy for you. And if you have fun, what else do you need?"

He thought for a moment. Had Aidan heard about the magic loss and kidnappings and all that? "Have you seen the headlines recently?"

"How convenient for you to know that moved here, huh?" Aidan joked and accepted his drink with a grateful smile. "Whenever you decide to push your limits you can give me a call to patch you up again." He frowned, though his expression remained amused. "It'll be like super glue on speed dial."

Aidan raised his glass for a toast before taking a sip. "'s not yoga, mate, unless they're using swords for that these days. In some of them you use a sword at least." Which reminded him - he absolutely needed to find some training partners before he went hopelessly out of practice.

"Never mind that. What about the headlines? I reckon the past weeks I've been so preoccupied that I barely made it beyond the weather forecast and the funnies." Aidan frowned, showing real concern this time. "Are you in trouble?"

"Better to know than not, I say. If I didn't know I can only imagine the trouble I'd get into." Terry replied with a smile. It was a good thing he had knew when enough was enough, else he'd spend all his time in St. Mungos. "But it's good to know there are friendly faces around to give a helping hand if I ever need one." He paused and nodded. "Yeah, like super glue on speed dial."

Terry gave a small, impressed laugh. "Swords? Well, that sounds a lot better than yoga. More interesting. It is like fencing, then? You never were much for dueling or anything, though."

Terry furrow his brow; so no, Aidan hadn't heard about anything that had been going on. "No, I'm not in trouble." He said with a small laugh before frowning. "I'm a bit surprised you hadn't heard, but you've been out of the country so it's understandable. I didn't find out until I came back from a business trip myself. There was a bit of a scare for a bit- practically an epidemic of witches who'd lost their magic. And then some of them got kidnapped, by Renegades apparently. But Padma Patil and Hermione Granger, I'm sure you remember them from school? They figured out what caused the magic loss and now those sods are on trial." He shook his head in disgust. "The girls are back, though. There was a ransom or some nonsense, but they're back. It's calmed down a bit, that was only a week or so ago, but there've been a couple attacks and that." His mind went briefly to Padma, but Terry shook his head and downed some beer. "It's a bloody mess if you ask me. Rubbish like this starting up again."

"Sword." Aidan corrected with a small, self-satisfied smile. "A katana. And just to reassure you - I'm still rubbish at wizarding duels." In fact, Aidan was pretty convinced that a determined Third Year could wipe the floor with him. Still, knowing that he had some martial arts skills at his disposal was reassuring even though the Ravenclaw prayed that he would never end up in a situation where he'd be forced to make use of those skills. The mere thought of violence made him sick.

He opened his mouth for a funny remark to the topic of news but suddenly Aidan found his mouth dry and his voice missing. The words 'starting up again' echoed in his mind again and again, growing more mocking with each repetition and the blood left Aidan's head in a rush, leaving him pale and dizzy. This could start up again. And what in Merlin's name were Hermione and Padma thinking getting themselves tangled up in this? If everyone knew that they were the ones who solved this there would be retribution. Aidan swallowed and tried speaking again.

"Please tell me Hermione and Padma are all right." He paused for a moment, then gave Terry a concerned look. "And please tell me you don't plan to get into trouble." This was something very different than riding a motorcycle and for some reason (as far as Aidan could tell) his friend sometimes displayed the bravery of a Gryffindor. And that scared him.

"Alright, sword." Terry repeated the term correctly, a small smile on his face. "You were always rubbish because you never liked doing it, which still puzzles me. If you practiced, you could be brilliant in a wizarding duel. You remember everything, so pulling a spell would be no problem."

For a moment, Terry was afraid Aidan might faint or tip over. The color drained from his face and Terry paused with apprehension just in case he needed to catch his friend.

"I haven't spoken to Hermione, but she's alright as far as I can tell. After she got her magic back she actually sent a pack of canaries at the idiots who caused the whole damn thing. It was all up in the headlines. There was footage too- I might have the paper back at my flat, I'll show you sometime. I don't think you'd want to get on her bad side." Terry paused and glanced down at his cup, tilting it and watching the liquid inside rotate in a barely visible whirlpool. "Padma's good. I took her to the zoo to celebrate her part in the solving of the magic loss. It's a big rough, I guess- her brother-in-law being the nephew of a notorious Death Eater. But she's holding her own, as always."

Looking back up at Aidan, Terry gave a questioning look. "What do you mean, 'please tell me you don't plan on getting into trouble?'" He said, not really asked, and took another sip of beer. "You think I'm going to go try to find Rodolphus Lestrange and fight him or something?" It was true, a part of Terry had wanted to find Lestrange and rip his bloody head off for causing the whole mess. "I'd like to- believe me, I'd love to, but I'm better off staying around here keeping an eye on people like Padma and Hannah."

"I don't..." Aidan frowned and made a vague gesture. "I don't like the idea of anyone getting hurt."

He shrugged and despite the dire circumstances started grinning. "She sent canaries after them?" Aidan almost snorted into his drink, then gave up pretending and starting sniggering. "Remind me never to annoy her." He desperately needed to see pictures of that. The woman was an evil genius.

Sobering up again Aidan sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Looking after Hannah and Padma sounds like a good plan," he admitted and took another sip of his drink. Two desires battled inside of him: on the one hand Aidan had the urge to turn around and run and hide from the reemerging threat of whatever they called themselves these days (Renegades? Something like that?) while on the other hand his Irish temper was flaring. Part of him wanted to go and grab that sword of his, rush out and do something phenomenally stupid.

"Do you think we should do something about them?" Aidan finally asked, biting his bottom lip nervously. "Like we did with the DA?"

Terry shrugged. "I don't either, but not everyone feels like that. It's just a good skill to have."

He started laughing. "I'd hate to see what else she could do." He shook his head. "Don't let me forget to take a look for that copy of The Prophet so I can show you."

Terry sighed and nodded. "Yeah, I don't want to see anything else happen. They're both dealing with enough." He took another drink and lowered his voice slightly even though it wasn't really a secret he was telling. "Hannah was one of the kidnapped girls, Padma's got Lestrange as a bloody uncle-in-law or something, and I'll be damned if anything else happens." Terry was a relaxed, charming guy most of the time, but he also had a protective streak in him that, when it came out, it came out strong.

"You mean do something about The Renegades?" Terry glanced at Aidan and considered the notion. "I hadn't thought of something like that, just making sure the girls were safe." He sat up. "But you've caught my interest. How would we do it? Get a group together and practice, or prepare ourselves, to deal with them?"

Aidan sighed and nodded. As much as he wanted to deny it, there was no other possibility but to admit that Terry was perfectly right. It was a good skill to have. One that might even help them survive if things got bad again (and from the looks of it, they did).

Aidan stared at his drink for a moment before raising his eyes back to his friend. "You know, I hate it when this happens. This whole 'you being right'-thing," he tried to joke but his voice remained serious. "But I think that's exactly what we should do. Learn more. Practice and be prepared." Aidan made face, once again fighting down this confusing mixture between fear and disgust of what possibly lay ahead of them and something very different that felt very much like a jolt of adrenaline running through his body. "I don't want us to wait until it's almost too late again. Back then we were children and it was the adults who messed up. Now I just..." His voice dropped. "It might be our turn to do something."

Aidan sighed and quickly took a long swing from his drink. This was just what he tried to evade but being around his friend had the tendency of bringing out things very clearly and suddenly the thought of standing by idly seemed impossible.

Aidan shrugged. "Whatever we do, we should make sure to have Hermione on our side."

Eyes focused on his glass as he listened to Aidan, Terry finally turned, a quiet, somber look on his face.

"As much as I like being right," He said, attempting a half-smile, "I'm not sure I like being right about this. Having to prepare to fight and all that. But we need to be prepared. Else who knows what could happen, and I don't want to go down that road." Back, during the war with Voldemort, they were teenagers. Barely legal, barely adults, barely aware of anything beyond the halls of Hogwarts. But they learned, they had to, in order to survive and win. For Terry, and likely others as well, the war was the final step in his growing up process. It revealed a lot for him. "It probably is our turn. I don't think anyone else is going to do anything, and I'm just sorry to say I have just as much faith in our current Ministry as I did for the one we had back then, which means little to none."

The wheels in Terry's head were really turning. It'd been a while since he'd had a conversation as stimulating as this one, and Aidan had always brought the real thinker out in him. "We'd just need a starting point, like finding out the 'whys' and all that. Or how to organize ourselves."

His eyebrows raised and Terry gave a small laugh. "Of course we should make sure Hermione is on our side. I'm sure she's all for upsetting the Renegade's applecart, but either way I do not want to see canaries coming in my direction. Or anything else she might be able to pull off." He paused. "We should talk to Weasley and Potter too, yeah?"

There were moments when Aidan was convinced that the combination of Terry and himself should come with a warning label: Handle with care. Highly reckless results may occur.
As it was, they had barely made it through half of their drinks and already they were planning a rebellion of sorts. Of course neither of them said a thing but Aidan had no doubt that in time and if things kept getting worse with the Renegades, this would be exactly what they would end up doing. Fighting the Renegades. He paled once more and took a sip of his drink. They were clearly insane to even consider doing such a thing.

"We may have to re-evaluate who we let in on it and what we can do. Sure, Ron, Harry and Hermione need to know as well as the Weasleys, of course. Then we can proceed with the training." Aidan gave Terry a rueful smile. "Can you believe that a moment ago we were still talking about a sense of self-preservation?" He snorted. "We're out of our bloody minds." Aidan paused, considered their lack of sense and shrugged it off. "I need some serious brush-up on my defensive spells. The offensive ones, too and yes, we need some people to gather information."

Welcome back to London, Aidan thought sarcastically.

This reminded Terry of all the mischief him, Aidan and all their mates got into in school. Yes, they were Ravenclaws, supposedly the smartest and all that, but they were all teenage boys. But when the first war started there was so much more they could have done to help, and now they had the chance to really do something so no one got hurt. If they were even going to consider doing anything about the Renegades, though, they were going to have to be really careful.

"We've always been out of our bloody minds. Now we just have a chance to show it." Terry ran a hand through his hair. "Yes, self preservation. And now we're talking about the opposite." He gave a small laugh. "But you're right, we need to be careful about who's in on this or not. The trio, yeah, and the Weasleys. Who else do we want to get in on this?" He took another drink from his beer. "I have most of my books from school, and practically a library of spell books I've collected over the years. We'll have to decide what would be best to know and all that to prepare ourselves."

Terry still couldn't believe it. "The minute you get back to London and we're preparing a bloody rebellion against Renegades." He shook his head and smiled. "You always did bring out the best in me."

"If we wanted to show that we're insane we could have just died our hair or started riding motorcycles." Aidan smirked and raised his glass in a sloppy toast. "To insanity."

Aidan shook his head at the weird way Terry brought out the worst - pr some might say the best - in him as well (for to Aidan's mind there was no doubt that it was all Terry's fault - never mind the fact that he had proposed reforming the DA) and made a face. "All right then. It might be a bit trickier than before I'd say and we really should begin with some reconnaissance. Find out who we can trust - and that might have changed in the mean time - and find out what and who the Renegades are. Simultaneously we can start the training where we could add some basic healing training because if it turns out like the last time, then everyone will need some basic healing skills." All they needed were some colour-coded charts now, Aidan thought, torn between shock and amusement.

"You got any idea where we can meet?"

"I guess all I'm missing is the dyed hair then, yeah?" Terry replied, giving Aidan a knowing look before raising his glass. "To insanity." He said, staring at the glass a moment before drinking.

It was somewhat funny to Terry how actually talking about everything made him realize how angry he was about it, and how much he wanted to do about it. "I agree. That's a good starting point: finding out who we can trust and getting as much information on the Renegades, and Rodolphus Lestrange, as possible." His eyes narrowed and Terry paused in thought. "We should sort out training and all that when we know who we have and what they each can provide."

Terry leaned back in his seat. "It'd have to be somewhere easily accessible, but heavily protected." He looked at Aidan. "Do we know any places like that?"

"Which we got plenty of," Aidan finished the sentence with a smirk. "That could be our motto: To insanity."

Dropping the amused facade Aidan became serious once more. He hadn't even realized how much Terry's opinion on the matter reassured him and how much it strengthened his own resolution to do something. Whereas 'something' finally started getting a bit of a concrete shape. A shiver on anticipation ran down his spine.

"Offhand I don't know of any but we can go and scout out a place. I'd say somewhere in a Muggle area because I doubt that's were the blood-snobs will look for us." Aidan put down his glass and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Or we try reverse psychology and hide right under their noses. It would be amusing but perhaps a bit too recklessly Gryffindor for my taste."

"Only problem is I'm not sure how much support we'd get if people thought we were insane." Terry said with a shrug. "But we can see how that goes."

Terry pinched the bridge of nose and rubbed it for a second. He needed to stay concentrated. "Say Hermione agrees. Who else would be get?"

Finding a place would not be easy, at least Terry didn't think it would be. "Whether we're near or far, though a bit of distance couldn't hurt, we'll need a place we can keep from prying eyes. Top priority is keeping people safe." He slid his glass from hand to hand. "You know, there are some abandoned muggle warehouses on the outskirts of the city. That might work, yeah?"

"Right. So we need to hire a public relations-person." Aidan grinned and eyed his Guinness speculatively. He hadn't drunk that much but judging from the nonsense he came up with, it certainly sounded differently. At least he wasn't slurring his words.

"The Weasleys." Aidan responded immediately. "Pad-...wait. If Parvati is married to Malfoy - how did that happen, anyway? - then perhaps we should wait before we tell her." Aidan didn't like to admit it as he was very fond of both the Patils but what if Padma told Parvati who would inevitably tell Malfoy? Recalling his unpleasant memories concerning pureblood Slytherins in school, Aidan suppressed a shudder and took a deep breath. "Let me talk to Hermione first and the Weaselys plus Harry. Additionally, I'll start making some tours through Muggle London - we're bound to find something like you suggested eventually."

"Oh, that should be interesting." Terry replied. "I was thinking more along the lines of not saying we were insane. You know, keeping the whole insanity part to ourselves." He had to suppress the urge to laugh, which meant the effects of his drinks were starting to come into play.

"I have absolutely no bloody clue how it happened. Definitely an unexpected pair, though." Terry said, an uncomfortable look on his face. "But you're right. Padma would tell Parvati, they are sisters, why wouldn't she? But Parvati would, unfortunately, tell her Malfoy. They're married; her business is his and she wouldn't keep something like that from him. It might be better this way, though. I'm not sure I like the idea of them fighting. It just...well, it doesn't sit right with me." Terry Boot was many things, and overprotective was one of them. "I agree, you should talk to Hermione first, let me know what she says, and we'll go from there. And I'll also take a look around for places to meet." He put his glass down, in the fashion of a gavel; Terry had a set plan in his head. Getting him to seviate from it would be a difficult task.

"That's a good plan if ever I heard one." Aidan agreed earnestly. "We tell people that we're all for opposing the Renegades and forming a little underground movement and they will naturally assume that we're perfectly sane unless we explicitly tell them that we're not." It sort of made sense in his head which was the point at which Aidan got a little nervous. It wasn't supposed to make sense.

Speaking of not making sense, Aidan leaned forward to learn more about the unlikely pair of Parvati and Malfoy. "But...they're happy, aren't they? Parvati and Malfoy?" It felt wrong to even say it and Aidan knew for a fact that this feeling had nothing to do with the alcohol. "I mean, what's next? Parkinson hitting on Harry? Or Neville?" Aidan was still puzzled when Terry put his glass down with the air of a man who had reached a decision. He started smiling almost involuntarily.

"Alea iacta est, mate."

Terry raised an eyebrow and smirked at Aidan. "And we should tell them our plans exactly like that." He laughed a little before stretching and rubbing his temples. There was no way in hell Terry was going to be riding his bike home tonight; he'd have to walk it, which would be a pain, or minimize it and place it gently in his pocket and try not to forget it was there.

"As far as I know, they're very happy." Terry said, almost grumpily. It astonished him how someone like Draco Malfoy, a person full of narcissism and negativity, could find love and happiness. It wasn't that Terry was jealous...he just wished he could find someone who could stand him most of the time. Traveling on your own, no matter where you go, sometimes could ruin the fun. "I suppose that's all that matters. But if I ever find Happy Potter or Neville Longbottom attached to someone like Pansy Parkinson, I think I'd lose my mind."

When Aidan spoke in Latin, Terry perked up a little and smiled at him. Not a whole lot of people knew much about Latin, and it was nic to know he wasn't alone. "You've got that right." Terry confirmed with a nod. "And now that we've practically set this in stone, do you know what bloody time is it?" He looked at the clock, but couldn't quite make out the numbers.
