Padma had been in a good mood before, happy to talk wedding plans, knowing with a certain degree of, well, certainty that her sister would be following along as she always was into the healing profession. What Padma hadn't expected was the exact opposite. She lay quiet still for a few moments, her expression of giddy delight at merely spending time relaxing and chattering with her sister to confused uncertainty. "What?" Of course, Padma had heard every word her sister had said but it wasn't going through quite right.
She shook her head. "You mean you're getting married and then that's the end of your life? You're just going to be a housewife and that's it?" The notion of staying at home and tending to things like laundry and dishes and charity events honestly didn't have any appeal whatsoever to her. The fact that her sister would find comfort in it shouldn't have been such a surprised but Padma felt like she was being blindsided with all of this.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" There was real hurt in her voice as she sat up, pressing her palms into the white comforter, trying hard not to lose her temper, which had begun to boil and stew inside of her. She didn't like that feeling, trying hard to quench it, swallowing against the knot in her throat and the knots in her stomach.
