Who: Michael Corner, Terry Boot
Where: Terry's place
When: December 16, early morning
What: Because Michael's schedule is all over the place and neglects the fact that some people sleep past 7am.

Michael was definitely a morning person. Oh, sure, what man didn't love sleeping in? But he never slept any later than nine in the morning. Must have been because of his work schedule. Right now it was steady, maybe 12-14 hours a day and then a string of days off that sufficed unless he was called in. He hadn't realized how busy he had gotten until his update with Terry had shocked him back to reality. Wasn't it just his birthday? Had it really been two weeks already?

Armed with a thermos of juice and a thermos of coffee clutched together in one hand and a bag containing (now) misshapen crumpets and a jar of jam in the other, he had marched his way down to the shier brunette's home. He never asked Terry if it was all right to go over; he just did.

Rapping his knuckles repeatedly on his best friend's front door, Michael called out in an annoying sort of sing-song manner, 'Oii! Terryyy! Lemme in! Lemme in!"

"For bothering you," Michael remarked, "Come on, Terrbear, I'm not completely barbaric. I brought juice and coffee," he pointed out before taking the thermos of the caffeinated beverage for himself, "and some crumpets and a jar of your favorite jam."

"Sit down, sleepyhead," he gestured with a wave to the seat across from him, "and tell me what's new. But you don't have to tell me about work 'cause I know nothing happened there. I still feel so behind. Two week's just flew by. Work's been keeping my arse busy with all these displaced suddenly coming in," he said with a shake of his head.

Terry glared at the nickname Michael seemed intent on calling him, but didn't have the energy to argue about it at the moment. Sitting down at the table, Terry rested his chin on his hand and sighed, "Well, okay. I suppose this makes up for you barging in. Sort of."

He got up and grabbed a butter knife from one of the kitchen drawers, then returned to the table. "What's new?" he questioned, opening the jar of jam and spreading some on a crumpet. "Nothing much, really. Well, nothing I haven't already told you, anyway."

At the mention of the displaced, Terry looked over at Michael in interest. "Do you know if any progress has been made on stopping people from displacing?" He wondered what would happen if he or Michael would ever displace.

Michael was always coming up with new nicknames for Terry. There was Bootie, TerrBear, Bootscoot, T-Boot, more embarrassing and some just plain silly but his favorite one was Terryberry; the recipient brunette did not favor it at all, letting Michael know to stop it but the mediwizard chose to let it fall on deaf ears.

"Of course it does," he answered, unfettered.

"But that's what I missed out on! Next thing I know, two weeks from now you'll be dating. And then two weeks from that, I don't know, engaged," Michael exclaimed. Who was he kidding though? It would take another moth before Terry even tentatively brought up dating to the blonde.

He shook his head, "If anyone knows, we're not in the loop. There's not even a succinct connection before displacing. Nothing traumatic happening beforehand on either side or even a link. Just some orbs," he said with a shrug as he took a hurried gulp of hot coffee.

Terry attempted to retaliate by coming up with nicknames for Michael, but none of them seemed to faze his friend.

Cracking a smile for the first time that morning, Terry put down his half-eaten crumpet and wiped his hands on his pajama pants. "Whoa, slow down there," he chuckled. "That puts us at getting married in about a month and a half. I'll be lucky to tell her how I feel by then." Revealing to Mandy that he liked her as more than a friend was in Terry's plans. He just didn't have a clue when to put that plan into effect.

"Orbs?" he repeated, frowning as he tried to recall if he'd heard about those before.

Michael wasn't too fond of 'Mikey-Wikey' or 'Corny' as Terry had tried, but he didn't let his other friend see that he minded. It was a perfect dupe.

The blue-eyed male gave a sigh, "I know, but you've made so much progress. I'm so proud," he said with the shining adoration of a mum who successfully potty trained her child.

"Yeah, orbs. They spoke about it briefly in the Prophet. Each displaced have a shiny orb somewhere near them when they wake up. But no one's said anything about figuring them out." Pulling a crumpet from the bag, Michael bit into it, sans jam.

Rolling his eyes at his friend, Terry popped the last of his crumpet into his mouth, then reached for the juice. Taking a drink, he sighed heavily. "Yeah, I've made progress, but I have no clue where to go from here. How do I approach the subject of possibly dating? I'll need to ask her out on a date first, after I tell her I like her, that is."

Terry nodded slowly. Now that he thought about it, he did vaguely remember something about orbs being mentioned. "Oh, yeah."

Glancing at the clock, Terry saw that it was ten minutes past seven. He had to be at work at eight, but it usually only took him about thirty minutes to get ready. He definitely had time for another crumpet or two.

"Well, how did you get the ball rolling the first time around? Are you ever going to tell her it was you who sent the plant?" he questioned around chews, finishing off his crumpet.

"Whatever you do, don't back her into a corner. Try not to blurt out that you like her. Mandy doesn't like surprises too terribly and she gets rather brash about things." So many years spent at school at the receiving end of Mandy's behavior. He couldn't help it!

"It's unheard of, this whole other universes thing. Now we're getting rounds of people who recall different histories than the first few waves. It makes no sense!" Michael said with a shake of his head.

"No, I probably won't tell her about the plant," Terry shook his head. "That can be something funny that I reveal later, assuming we end up getting together." Looking thoughtful, he added, "Well, she seemed to like the tea that I sent her. I'm keeping track of what she mentions that she likes and doesn't like. I figure if I get her little gifts or talk about things she likes, she'll see that I really do pay attention when she talks and that I want to get to know her."

Terry listened intently to Michael's advice. Even though Michael seemed to be on Mandy's bad side, he did know enough about her to help Terry out, and Terry appreciated it and valued his help.

"How many different universes are there so far?" Terry wondered. "It does sound pretty crazy. I don't envy you at all having to help people sort everything out."

"Aw, how cute, already thinking about reminiscing as you two sit all cozy cuddled together," Michael said with a wide adoring smile.

"Good strategy. I should have done more of that when I was younger." Eh, listening was still one of those things Michael needed to work on.

"So far? Three," Michael said, holding up the appropriate number of fingers, "Ours, and two others. It's bloody insane," he muttered into his cup of coffee, swallowing another round.

Terry couldn't help but grin at the thought. It would be wonderful if they ended up that way. Instead, he said, "Oh, zip it, mate."

"When you were younger and now," Terry informed him. "Seriously, girls like it when you remember things they've told you."

"Three?!" Terry asked, shocked. "What if there are more? I feel like I don't know who I know anymore." Clapping his hand on Michael's arm, he joked, "You're still you, right? Not some alternate universe Michael masquerading as my best mate?"

Michael did zip it, only because he was grinning at his best friend grinning. Mandy was a tough nut to crack, but he thought, if any bloke could get through to her it would be someone like Terry. He was terribly patient and could be somewhat naive still, and of course shy to a point. Mandy would appreciate that.

"OH, I pay attention to the girls, of course," Michael amended, "but I only act upon it when necessary."

Nodding, Michael stole another crumpet, "Dunno. There could be," he said with a shrug before his eyes locked onto Terry, "Am I still me? That's a silly question to ask. You know we're life-mates and all, Terryberry," he joked giving Terry's hand a squeeze.

As much as Terry would have liked to argue with Michael's assessment of him, had had known what he was thinking, he knew it was true. His shyness and naivete were traits he considered both weaknesses and strengths. He hated being seen as such, yet it usually seemed to work to his advantage with girls. That's not to say Terry didn't get a bit rambunctious and misbehave at times, though.

"Oh, so that's the secret to your success?" Terry joked, grabbing another crumpet and taking a drink of his juice.

Nearly choking on his juice, Terry jerked his hand away from Michael's. "Oi!" he shouted, then punched Michael's shoulder. "I told you not to call me that!"

Michael nodded solemnly, "Don't go sharing that information," he said pointedly.

Laughing loudly, but rubbing his shoulder all the same, the Ravenclaw continued running the joke, "Oi! Didn't know you were so sensitive, sweetheart!" The pearly whites of his teeth shone past his lips. "Must be that time of the month, eh?"

"I'm going to take out a full page advert in the paper," Terry immediately replied in a serious tone. "You'll be ruined."

Staring at Michael in silence for a moment, Terry stood up from the table and grabbed his thermos of juice. "Right. I'm going to go get ready for work now." He carried the thermos into the kitchen and set it next to the sink, then washed his hands. "Thanks for the breakfast, darling."

Alright, he couldn't help it. If Michael was going to tease him, he was going to joke back and pretend it didn't bother him.

"Right next to that page will be a full page of the shot I snapped of you at my last birthday. Y'know, the fetching one with your shirt half off and a pink paper crown on your head?" Michael countered with a plain, recalling tone of his own.

Michael's eyes twinkled as Terry took his teasing in stride.

"Oh, you're welcome, ducky," he said with a cheesy sigh, "anything for my bread-winner." Standing from his chair, the brunette sealed up the bag of crumpets and twisted the lid back onto his thermos. He could drink the rest on his morning walk.

Half-turning, Terry glared at Michael. "You promised that picture would never see the light of day!" Then, realizing that the best thing to do what act like he wasn't worried about all of Veritas seeing it, he quickly added, "But fine. Do whatever. I don't care."

Simply grunting, Terry asked, "So, whose flat are you going to visit next? Planning on waking them up by pounding on their front door as well? Not everyone is as understanding as I am when you disturb their blissful slumber."

Smirking at Terry's torn performance, Michael gave a shrug, "I will if you feel like you should share my secrets."

"Well, I'm not going around caroling, silly. Just wanted to pop in and catch up with my bestest friend ever before he drudges off excited and wide-eyed to his most favorite job ever, you know."

Grinning a little, Terry assured Michael, "Don't worry. All your secrets are safe with me, mate."

"Yeah, yeah," Terry waved a hand in Michael's direction, pretending to look hurt. "I bet you say that to everyone you visit on your morning breakfast rounds." Really, work wasn't that bad. Sure, it got boring from time to time, but what job didn't? "What about you? Are you working today?"

"And all yours are safe with me until you make one wrong move and I send all your secrets to the gossip columns," Michael said, trying to tuck his grin down.

"No, I only say it to you," Fat smile on his face, the blue-eyed twenty-five year old shook his head, "I'm off today. Don't know what I'm going to do but it's not work so who cares? Ha."

"Oh. I see how this relationship works," Terry chuckled, finally beginning to feel more awake and like his normal self. "I don't think it's very healthy if you have to threaten me," he joked.

"I'm truly touched," he deadpanned. "I have no doubts that you'll find some way to occupy your time. I'm sure you'll end up having a fabulous day while I sit at my desk and watch the minutes go by."

"Oh, it's not, but you're not the type to listen to reason without it being so," Michael joked, tucking his hands into pockets of his coat. In all honestly, Michael was probably more of the type he spoke of.

"I can send you something to occupy your time, if you want? Just have an owl swoop in every hour with something new. Dunno what, but I'll think of something interesting." Michael found his energy levels rising after the coffee and crumpets hit his stream and now he felt ready to do anything.

That was certainly true enough. With a nod of his head to show his agreement, Terry checked the clock again. It was twenty-five past seven now?! He needed to get a move on!

Pointing at Michael, Terry gratefully told him, "That would be most appreciated. Just make sure it's work-appropriate. You know, nothing noisy or messy."

"But where's the fun in that?" he questioned with big blank eyes to Terry's ones of warning.

"Guess you'll just have to trust me on my judgement then." Michael made his way to the front door on his own. He didn't need Terry showing him out. He opened the door and stepped half way out.

"Have a good day at work, sweetie. I'll send you love notes 'round noon!"

Trust Michael on his judgment? Terry would have to make sure nobody was around when he opened whatever Michael sent him.

His eyes widening comically, Terry hissed loudly, "Would you quit saying stuff like that! Especially with the door open and the neighbours within ear-shot. That's the last thing I need."

"Especially with what?" Michael called down the hallway, a devious smirk running across his face, "I can't hear you, Terryberry, I have to go now so I can prepare you a nice, loving lunch! Kisses, darling!" he called out louder with a triumphant smack of his lips against his fingertips. He hurriedly closed the door before Terry retaliated.
