Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current location:The forest near the gas station
Entry tags:!dropped, !incomplete, cielo, day 03, lexie grey, location: gas station, rorschach

Day Three: Arrival Thread, Early Morning
Who: Ciello, Lexie, Rohrshack
What: Being dropped into the woods
Where: Near the gas station
When: Crack of dawn
Rating: PG-13 - Rish... All depends on Rohrshack, me thinks.

Certain things about her present situation didn't make a lick of sense to Lexie Grey. First off, she was laying on her stomach. This was in stark contrast to the fact that the most recent pose she had been was standing. Next, she was quite certain she was outside because of the rather pleasant breeze that whipped across her face. This would not make much sense given the fact that she had been inside the observation gallery. Third and finally, Lexie was quite certain that the smell was that of fresh dirt. The sort of dirt that had just been rained on. Again, dirt had no place in the OR gallery.

Snapping her eyes open, Lexie marveled at the forest she suddenly found herself in. Was she hallucinating? It didn't make any sense to have been in the gallery one minute and laying in the middle of nowhere the next. Tentatively, Lexi reached down and pinched her thigh, eliciting an "Ouch!" as her reaction. She could be having sensory and visual hallucinations. But, why? She wasn't all that more stressed than usual and she was healthy... why was she sitting in a forest?

"H-h-hello?" She stammered, pushing herself to a standing position. Dressed in scrubs and  sneakers Lexie actually was feeling quite naked. Spinning about she spotted a pouch laying nearby, "H-hello?" She asked again, tentatively bending over to pick up the pouch.

There was definitely. something. wrong.

There was no constant patter of rain against his skin and the scents on the light breeze invoked words (lush, green, fertile, alive) which he couldn't quite place. The sensations, too, were all wrong - a pleasantly creeping warmth on the top of his arms and legs and a prickly softness on the underside instead of the habitual chill.

...was this what it meant to ascend?

The thought jerked Cielo toward awareness and he rapidly pulled himself to a sitting position. His hands lifted to almost lazily rub at his eyes but his mind was working desperately; it had been over, hadn't it? Embryon had finally overcome the other tribes and they were going to save Sera so that they could all ascend together. There had been a fight with Angel but they had won. The Junkyard had started to disappear and then everything was white...

"Sera!" Cielo gasped. His eyes opened wide and he all but leaped to his feet. A strange tightness gripped his chest as he spun in a small circle, searching in each direction for any sign of his comrades. "Serph! Argilla! Gale! ....Heat?"

The silence which answered his desperate calls struck Cielo almost as a physical blow and he crouched down low to the ground. An unfamiliar stinging started at the back of his eyes and, when he covered his face with his hands, he was slightly started to find his cheeks were wet. "This isn't fair," he whispered, his natural accent thickened with his grief. "How can this be Nirvana if they're not here?"

The unexpected sound of another voice tugged Cielo back to his senses and he was again on his feet in a heartbeat. Tilting his head, he listened hard and, as soon as he could place the general direction, he followed the sound -- stopping only to pick up a stray pack and that only as an afterthought. Coming to the source of the sound, a woman dressed in some rather strange clothing, Cielo found himself a touch disappointed but another person was another person - even if he couldn't place her tribe colors from any which he had known.

"Hello there," Cielo called, his tone friendly enough."I heard you calling from over there - guess you're probably as lost as I am, huh?"

The same breeze that had gently woken Rorschach's two companions in captivity rustled through the branches and over the vigilante's masked face. Grunting, he shook his head to clear it, his brown fedora dropping about twenty feet to the ground. The shifting black and white designs on his mask wouldn't reveal it, by he frowned. He had been mNy places and done many things, but he had never woken up in a tree before. It wasn't a huge problem. He reached for his grappling hook, only to realize with a start that it was gone. Along with everything he'd kept in his pockets; it seemed that only his wearable items were present. He wondered immediately why his mask was still there... if someone cared enough to steal his grappling hook and the sugar cubes out of his pocket, surely they would take his true face.

Glancing beneath him, he saw that his hat had fallen very near two people who seemed to be just meeting. With no hope of keeping his location secret after that little slip, he gripped the tree's trunk with his gloved hands and half-slid, half-climbed down before jumping the last few feet and landing lightly. He was a diminuitive man, standing at only about five feet six inches tall, and he usually stood stiffly with his shoulders crunched up around his ears, but in movement it was clear that he owned every inch of his body and knew how to use it. Bending at the knees, he retrieved his hat and placed it firmly back on his head.

"Woke up in tree. Has never happened before... especially not in the middle of mission." Rorschach stared at the others, a man and a woman who appeared to be of a medical persuasion, and decided that they didn't appear threatening. In a fight, he could take either of them.

Lexie was sort of shaken. Internally she felt like she had swallowed a million butterflies and that her tendons had been attached to little vibrators. She couldn't keep herself still too much longer.

'Hello there,' Came a friendly enough tone, and Lexie, for all she was worth plastered on the I am a professional, doctor... surgeon, who is not afraid of being lost in the woods look. It was a sort of flat face, with a hint of a smile. She nodded a bit as he asked if she was as lost as he was.

Before Lexie could speak again, however a movement from the corner of her eye sent her head snapping to the left as she caught sight of first a hat fluttering to the ground and then the abrupt descent of a figure as he landed like a cat. A gasp came from her mouth and Lexie abruptly started to back pedal. Generally the good guys didn't drop out of trees and furthermore they didn't wear scary masks.

Putting her hands out in front of her she tried to hold her distance.

"I don't know who you are, or what you want; but, I'd really just like to go back home," she said to Rohrshack, a look sent to the boy and back to the masked man again. Something just wasn't right here.

Cielo didn't yet know enough to read the expression on the woman's face as anything but friendly, but the fact that there was anything even close to a smile helped to put him close enough to ease that he began to relax. He answered the small smile with one of his own and his arms moved to cross behind his head. He opened his mouth to follow his lost question with another but he stopped short as soon as a lazy motion to one side caught his attention. He gave the stray hat a speculative glance but he certainly didn't take it as a warning for the body which soon followed.

Cielo quickly scuttled back a half dozen steps and one arm moved to guard over his face while the hand of the other instinctively dropped to reach for his gun. It was in this second that Cielo came to realize that his gun was most certainly not where he left it. This realization was rapidly followed by awareness of the fact that the pouches he wore around his waist were also gone and his tag ring and its chain were not around his neck. His brow furrowed in confusion, but he knew that there were more pressing issues at hand.

He turned a wary eye to the stranger who had fallen from the tree. The black marks on the white of the mask made him think of atma, but again the lack of recognized tribe colors gave him pause. "'ey, we don't want any trouble," Cielo called. He moved slightly, stepping to stand just a bit in front of the woman, but he frowned confusion as he registered the stranger's words. "Mission? What...mission?"

Under his mask, Rorschach smirked. Fear meant respect, in his book, and to see it filled him with a certain vindictive joy. He watched the woman retreat and attempt a comment to demonstrate that she was harmless. He also noticed, with some interest, that the young man was reaching for an absent weapon. It seemed that at least one of these people had some experience with combat of some nature; Rorschach made a note-to-self to be a bit more careful around him, though he seemed to be more accustomed to long-range fighting.

"No trouble. Not here to cause any," Rorschach said in his gravelly voice. There weren't any top-knots around, and it didn't seem worth it to break the fingers of two people so clearly confused. They knew nothing that would be relevant, and Rorschach experienced one of those rare moments where he realized that he actually had something in common with other people. "Mission. Secret. Wouldn't tell you."

Lexie was a bit taken aback as Cielo walked a bit between she and the masked man. It was a protective gesture, and Lexie hadn't expected that. A reasonable person would have started backing away slowly, not made direct eye contact, and given up their goods. That's what you were supposed to do when you were mugged right (well, that and scream like hell; but, in the woods who the hell would hear you scream?)

Masked-wonder started babbling about a mission and not causing trouble etc. Lexie wasn't too certain what to make of it. Ciello continued to ask questions and for the life of her, Lexie didn't understand why. You run away from freaky people and you don't look back. Or you call for a psych consult. This wasn't the sort of 'I have problems with alcohol' issues; this was I'm walking around in a flippin mask issues.

Clamming up, Lexie crossed her arms and chewed her lip. She didn't know which way to run and she didn't want to leave Cielo.

For a brief moment, the silence from the woman confused Cielo and he found himself glancing back over his shoulder at her. The physical reactions, the backing away and the chewing at her lip, spoke of what he thought was fear but he wasn't certain enough to hang a firm name on it just yet. Still, she appeared to be a rare civilian so that probably meant that she should be covered instead of having to try to fight on her own -- right?

"It'll be okay, sis," Cielo called over his shoulder. He offered her a bright smile and an almost casual wave of his hand as if this were all just a casual meeting in a neutral place rather than a case of waking up in an entirely strange forest with weird masked men who liked to fall out of trees. Not that Cielo wasn't curious about both their current location and the reason said masked man was hiding up in trees, but he wasn't at the point of getting severely stressed over it. "See, even the weirdo with the mask thinks so."

Speaking of the weirdo with the mask -- Cielo turned his attention back around front. His arms crossed over himself, he tipped his head curiously at the masked man and, for all the world, he looked like a curious child just trying to figure out why the silly adult was being so needlessly vague. "What's the big secret? You're not hiding the reason for why we're here, are you?"

Rorschach noticed the woman's unease and fear; typical for females, he thought disdainfully. The young man with her was continuing to puff himself out and strut around like he could not only protect her, but himself as well. Either he was bluffing, or completely unaware of what Rorschach was capable of doing. He waited patiently for the young man to finish his reassurance to the woman (brave) and calling Rorschach a "weirdo" (dangerous and foolish).

Ciello did resemble a child, and that was how Rorschach was beginning to see him. Children, of course, did not get to hear important secrets. Not that Rorschach seemed to know the one that was most relevant. "Am like you. Don't know why we're here."

Am like you

Yeah, the dude had just said that, right? Oh, now Lexie was just feeling like a total lame duck. Just because the guy looked kind of weird, and talked kind of weird, and totally skeeved her out; well, was it really right for her to totally judge him like that? Shouldn't she at least wait for him to do something insane like... eating human flesh? Or talking to trees? Or saying that the aliens were living in his brain?

"I'm Lexie," She quietly introduced herself to the pair of them, forcing back on the facade of total confidence. "We should probably go look for a phone or something, right? Call for help?"

Help in getting out of here

Though he did still have his doubts about the strange masked guy, Cielo quickly decided to just accept that they were all in the same boat and to not hold whatever it was that drove him to wear a mask against the other man; who knew? Maybe there was some sort of deformity involved...or maybe he was using it to disguise his own atma mark. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't the most important thing to worry about.

"Just call me Cielo," he answered Lexie's introduction in kind and even offered her another cheerful little wave. The mention of trying to find some help did seem like a good idea and so he nodded, but his head remained cocked to one side as he thought it over. "This..." He paused a moment, searching for the right word for all the greenery and failing to find it. "This place can't be so big, yea? We can walk a bit and see if there's a complex or anything."

The idea of climbing up on one of the taller structures in order to scout out the area did occur to him but doubts of how useful any such action would be kept him from actually bringing it up.

Rorschach, by most definitions (even kind ones), was somewhat insane. He was paranoid, sociopathic, and possessed a fair number of complexes that made it difficult for him to get along with society as a whole. But it was true that he hadn't technically done anything yet to warrant shunning, because at this moment in time, he had something in common with two other people. It was a rare moment, one he couldn't ignore. "Yes. Phone," he agreed shortly. It was 1985, after all. Of course there would be a phone somewhere.

Taking the cue from Cielo and Lexie once the younger man introduced himself, the masked avenger decided to reveal the identity he was most proud of. "Am Rorschach. Doubt that we are far from civilization."

It was nice to know masked-man, Rorschach, agreed with her.

Picking a random direction, Lexie was all ready to find civilization. There had to be civilization. They weren't in Iowa - the furthest they could possibly be from people was 20, maybe 30 miles. Lexie could handle that. She could totally handle that.

Plucking up the nearby pouch and peeking inside she gasped - was that? "Well, look, water... and tic tacs..." she said, pulling out the bottle and choosing to leave the pump hidden within. "So, this way seem good to you guys?"

"Rorschach?" Cielo repeated doubtfully, but he soon shrugged his concerns away. Instead, he turned his attention to finding the shortest path back to anything even resembling society, even if he couldn't quite guess what sort of complexes might be found in Nirvana. Whatever was to found had to be better than what'd been left behind anyway - and the rest of Embryon just had to be waiting there for him, too.

"That direction looks as good as any," he agreed with a slight shrug. Cielo began to walk in the indicated direction, assuming that the other two would follow, but the regular tap of the hereto forgotten pack against his hip drew his attention back to it.

"Oh yea. I found one of those, too," he nodded and, taking her lead, he picked through the contents of the pack just in case there might be anything useful inside. Unfortunately, all that he was able to find was two bottles of water (one labeled with a hastily scribbled 'Norn'), a pair of socks, a paper journal, some matches, and a strange box of little pills. The pills were given a glance of mixed confusion and amusement but Cielo chose to pull the labeled bottle out so the others could see. "Does the word 'Norn' mean anything to either of you?"

Rorschach also removed the contents of his bag, eating some of the tic-tacs right away. The sound of crunching could be heard beneath the shifting spots of his mask. He decided to save the water, slipping it into his pocket, and he brought out the syringes and stared at them, in full view of the others. He disapproved immediately, the imagery reminding him of drug abuse, but he shrugged and put them back. Perhaps they would come in useful.

"Norn? Means nothing. Maybe 'water' in other language. This direction fine."
