Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 18, location: museum, remy lebeau, rose tyler

Who: Remy LeBeau & Rose Tyler (Maybe a cameo by Nine?)
What: Rose is about to find out Remy isn't all dead!
Where: Just outside the museum.
When: Day 18 - 7:30am
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

It was raining. Something Remy was actually pleased for. Everyone else would probably hate the showers that would be scattered around the town this day, but not the Cajun, he was used to rain and dampness and this was a good reminder of home.. though home wasn't really home anymore, was it, Gambit? The soggy red-head had just woken up in the forest with the others from the experiment.. Shannon had been conspicuously absent and that had been a note of concern, but eventually, everyone had gotten it together and had separated to find their ways back to where they belonged. Or, where they belonged in this place at least. But the Cajun had veered off and run into two new people. He had, of course, taken the time to talk with them and lead them into the town, to the gym, where most people seemed like they ended up their first day. He had explained what he could to them, about the place, about the book, about what went on here.. and then he had left them alone, circled back around to head his way back to the barn. But he had taken the long way (so he could go by the carnival.. though he found no one there) so he was passing by the museum on his way back 'home'.

And there, on the steps, was a tired-looking Rose Tyler! It caused Remy's face to widen out into a smile and he lifted up a gloved out, out of that wet coat pocket, and he raised it high into the air to get her attention. He was eager to tell someone about the little adventure inside that apartment. And he'd sort of been hoping to see Rose, anyway. He wanted to have a talk with the Doctor's companion-- the woman he loved. Curious man. "Rose!" He finally called out, just to assure he had her attention.

Shannon hadn't come back. Rose let the information sink in with a heavy heart. Sam, so hurt and angry and so willing to fight to avenge her. How was he going to feel when everyone else's someone came back and his...didn't? And Jack had been close to her, too. Jack... "That means the others are all okay, too? Ianto, and Sarah Jane..." Oh, she'd have to tell the Doctor! "And Edward's Kim and...everyone?" It was like that day during the London Blitz. Everyone lived! Well. Everyone lived if they could find Shannon. They would find her, wouldn't they?

Rose attached herself to Remy's arm, tightening her grip on it as if afraid he'd slip away. "He's probably at the Carnival," she reminded him, refusing to acknowledge the little flip of her stomach at the mention of Dr. Smith's name. "He's been worried about you. We all have!"

For the moment, Rose didn't mention the Doctor. Honestly, she was afraid to. Things seemed so... Maybe Tonks had been mistaken. But she'd swear the pink haired witch had said the Doctor she called Spaceman had run around swearing his name was merely 'the Doctor'. There was that flip of her stomach again. Something wasn't adding up. "Why don't we walk and talk? If you don't mind the rain. Or we could go into the musem. Everyone'll be waking up soon, I imagine. Remus is still sleeping, but the Doctor's bound to be up any time now."

"Don' min' 'de rain. Jus' wanna ge' back to le Docteur 'fore he fin' out I ain' dea'." He wanted to know. He needed to know how the other man was reacting. Were they friends? Was it just some sort of strange connection? Was it just a game? Had the Doctor meant what he'd said? Remy, really, wanted to get back to him right now.. but this was the best time to talk with Rose, and he was going to take it. "We can walk to 'de barn, non? An' I le' you go when we ge' 'dere. I'll grab somet'in' an' go fin' him." The Cajun flashed her a smile as he said this, but was already beginning to lead them away from the museum, away from the Carnival (where the Doctor likely was) and towards his barn.

"So tell me 'bou' him. You two lovers?" Wow, he'd just started in on that one, hadn't he! But he wanted to know. "Frien's? He tell me you travel wit' him. An' 'dat you two bes' frien's. But I t'ink 'dere's more he ain' sayin'. An', s'il vous plaƮt, Rose, don' make anyt'in' up, 'dis kin'a impor'an'. An' in return, I tell you anyt'in' you wanna know, free o' lies, deal?" Well, there you go. Open session between the companions? Seemed like it.

Rose fell easily in step beside him. Which was probably weird, wasn't it? Just following along with anything a stranger said and did. But people seemed to grow close quickly in the glass box. Must be being trapped together.

And then he asked his question and Rose missed a step and almost fell in the mud. She blinked repeatedly and looked up at him. Did he know something she didn't? "No!" she blurted, pushing damp hair off of her eyes and swallowing hard. "No, no, of course we're not. He's right, we're...we're just friends. Very close friends, he's wonderful and all, but...no. Just friends." And why, she wondered, should it matter to Remy? Was he interested in her? Or...well, the Doctor, possibly, he was extremely good-looking and the prettiest ones often were. But honestly, how strange was it to ask? And so seriously? "What do you mean it's important? Why... Why does it matter?" Now that he was alive and back by her side and completely okay, she remembered the two of them planning to meet up to discuss her traveling companion. She just hadn't thought it'd be so...blunt. But she remembered thinking he had something he wanted to tell her. Maybe this was it.

He smiled more when she said that they weren't lovers, and glanced aside at her again, eyebrows lifting up some. Just friends, huh? "Ain' in love wit' him? He ain't in love wit' you? Not'in' goin' on 'dere?" Wow, he really was being blunt, wasn't he? Well, the mutant had never been one to beat around the bush, so why start now? Especially in this strange place. He just hoped that the two Doctors weren't going to come after him and wring his neck for talking to her like this.

"Jus' impor'an'. He sai' somet'in' t' me, somet'in' real mean, an' had to do wit' you. Wanna know if he was jus' sayin' it t' be mean, or if he was bein' serious." Remy was about a hundred percent sure that the Doctor was in love with Rose.. but he was curious to know if it was an affection that was returned. If it was, well.. he had no idea what he'd do. If it wasn't? Then he'd deal with it in stride. "Was gonna ask if you wanna have dinner wit' me, chere. Don' wan' you pinin' over anot'er man while you wit' me." Truth mixed with lies. Did that count? He had planned to spend more time with Rose, she seemed like his sort of girl. Definitely his sort of girl. But that really hadn't been the reason he asked.

Oh, Rose, he wanted to tell you so badly. And maybe he would. Maybe he would..

Rose's cheeks turned even pinker when Remy's question was asked. Because, to be honest? She wasn't entirely sure. Did she love the man who'd taken her hand and told her to run and they'd never looked back? Absolutely. She'd lay down her life for him, she knew that much. But was she in love with him?

...maybe.

Biting her lower lip, she grew lost in her own little world. The world where she was analyzing every careful look the Doctor gave her. Sighing, she shrugged her shoulders before pulling her hoodie more tightly around her. "I don't know," she admitted quietly, avoiding Remy's gaze. "Honestly, Gambit, I just don't. Sometimes... Well, sometimes I think maybe. That there's something there, something neither of us is talking about. And sometimes, he's just the goofy bloke who's more like a brother, or even a dad to me than anything else."

Consider yourself lucky, Remy. You were the first person Rose Tyler had ever admitted there might be something beyond Doctor and companion to. Including herself.

She forced a smile, though her heart wasn't in it. "I wouldn't listen to anything he said regarding me, though," she advised, attempting to sound sage. "He's overprotective, whether we're...together, or not. It could've just been a friendly warning or something." What the hell had he gone and babbled now? "And I'm afraid asking a girl to dinner over some tinned fruit isn't really your most romantic endeavor."

Gambit smiled then and shook his head a little. "Maybe you gotta t'ink 'bou' i' harder some day, non? Shoul'n' go 'roun' not knowin' wha' you feelin', chere.." But even as he said that, he was pulling his arm away, then taking up her hand and tugging, pulling her in against his chest there in the rain, not far from the carnival, and he slid one arm around her waist and took up her hand in his gloved one. "You dance, Rose Tyl'r?" The red-eyed devil asked with a curling sort of smile, swaying his body some to the side and urging hers along with him. She'd be able to feel the stretch and slide of that muscle under his skin, through those wet clothes, his body pressed up along hers.

"'De Doct'r dance, non?" Oh, he knew the Doctor could dance.

Rose rolled her eyes playfully but allowed the red-eyed man to pull her into an easy sway. "What is it with you flirty men and dancing?" she questioned, her free hand sliding almost instinctively around his neck. "It's like, you can't...you know, dance unless you can dance." She giggled at the Doctor's play on words, even if it did still weird her out a little, going out there and reproducing with everyone and everything.

"What is it you want to know, Gambit?" she questioned, though she continued moving with him. She knew this wasn't a standard conversation. There was something he wanted, something specific. Or something he had to tell her. One or the other. "The Doctor doesn't dance. Well, he can. He just says he doesn't like to. I can get him to, with some effort." And he really did move quite well. Again, her cheeks flushed. Dammit.

Unfortunately, Remy didn't get the joke. He'd never heard it called dancing before. Bumping uglies, the horizontal mambo, two to tango, doing the dirty deed, busting a-- Woah, weren't going there. He couldn't help the grin that came over his face when he thought it, though. He was still a child at heart, though his body certainly didn't reflect it.

"Oh," He promised quietly, bringing his mouth down nearer against her ear. "Le Docteur? He dances. An' he's amazin'." These were whispered words near her ear, ominous words. He knew, he wasn't guessing. The Doctor danced, Rose Tyler. And this Cajun knew it. "An' he likes it, no matter wha' he say." Their swaying bodies slowly came to a stop and one of his hands drew away to take hold of her chin and tilt her face up, to bring their mouths quite close. And he smelled oh-so-good right now, Rose. He'd taken several showers while he was away, and he smelled like after shave. A nice change from what they were used to around here. "He'd move worl's f' you. 'De way he looks a' you, chere..." But he didn't finish that sentence, only shook his head and removed his hand, then took a step back, smiling slightly.

Though she'd only known him for a couple of days, Rose had always felt comfortable with the Cajun. He'd been kind to her, and flirtatious, too. And she wouldn't deny enjoying being flirted with. Most girls would enjoy a gorgeous man noticing them.

But there was something about his words that made her uneasy. A cold wave washed over her, despite the warmth she felt in his arms. "What're you talking about?" she whispered, her eyes going dark as they studied him. When he stepped back, she crossed her arms protectively around herself. "What do you know about it? You've never... You couldn't. He's only just got here." The only one here who knew a thing about the Doctor was Jack. And Sarah Jane, too. Sarah Jane who she desperately had to hope was as alive as Remy was, considering.

She knew the Doctor would protect her for anything. Sending her back to Earth when she knew he'd wanted to stay with her was proof enough of that. But Remy spoke so intimately. Like he knew the Doctor's innermost thoughts and feelings. She bit down on her lower lip, bringing it to the edge of pain to keep her mind together. "Are you trying to make me jealous?" she questioned, her look suddenly fiery and defiant. "I don't care what the two of you do." Only she found, on thinking carefully, she really, really did.

"De Doct'r, he's uh Time Trav'l'r, 'member, chere? Jus' cause 'de Doct'r you show up wit' don' know me, don' know 'dat I don' know him." He lifted his eyebrows some, but that smirk curled his face as she asked if he was trying to make her jealous, and he shook his head some, pushing his hands down into that familiar coat. "Non, ain' tryin' t' make you jealous."

However, he was leaning forward a few seconds later, to bring his mouth near her ear again, and whisper, as if afraid someone else would hear. "Mais il est le mien. Et je ne lui renoncerai pas." That said, he was slowly leaning back again, but he was still smiling. It wasn't malicious, it wasn't threatening, he was just telling you, Rose Tyler. You couldn't have him back.

[*Translation: But he's mine. And I won't give him up.]

"Of course I remember, I travel with him!" she snapped, looking up at him accusingly. She didn't need someone telling her what the Doctor was and wasn't. She knew him. She knew him better than this man ever could dare to.

Her French was shaky on a good day, but she could make out enough of the statement to narrow her eyes. "Oh, really?" she questioned, suddenly all fire and heat. Maybe she couldn't get physically charged as Gambit could, but Rose Tyler made up for it as best she could with expression, posture, and words. "That's funny, because he doesn't seem so thrilled with you. Doesn't seem to like me being around you."

Of course. Oh, God, of course. The reason the Doctor...her Doctor, as John kept reminding her, didn't want her around this man was because he knew too much. He was in danger of revealing the Doctor's future. To them both? Or just to her? God, times like this she hated time travel. She hated it.

Her hands balled into fists at her side and she lifted her chin again, this time of her own free will. Maybe he wasn't being malicious, but she was. "I told you, I don't care. Go frolic with him, dance with him, see if I give a damn. Have a grand old time, but don't drag me into this again."

Because, she discovered, if he did? Her heart was in danger of breaking. Dammit again!

"Don' be so upse', chere. Ain' like I'm takin' you from him. You have your chance, non? An' he love you, I know he do. Bu' everyone dies, an' we jus' human, ain' like him. We gonna ge' ol' an' die. Or we gonna leave. Ge' los', go 'way. Somet'in'. You ge' him, Rose. He yours righ' now. Bu' some day, he gonna be mine, even only for uh bi'. An' even when he mine.." Red eyes slid away from her then, focusing on a point beyond her left shoulder. "He's t'inkin' o' you."

That hurt to admit, didn't it, Cajun?

If that was supposed to make her feel better, it didn't. She didn't like that feeling. She didn't like feeling helpless, the way she had when she'd turned around and realised the TARDIS had locked behind her. And she was getting that trapped feeling all over again. Stuck in a huge glass box like someone's playtoy and this was the first time she'd truly felt trapped.

"I won't leave him," she said simply. "If you want him, you're going to have to deal with me being part of the package." Oh, Rose could be stubborn. Horribly stubborn Taureans. This was her time. She didn't know what had made Sarah Jane leave, and she didn't know what point Remy would come into the picture. But she wasn't leaving.

Just human. Not like him. What, exactly, did that mean? A long standing theory was wiggling its way around her mind and she couldn't control it. She hated this. So bloody much. "And I told you. He loves me as a friend. A kid sister, something similar. That's it. So quit your fretting, you can have him." Just not completely.

"Like you, Rose. Like you uh lo'. An' I ain' never wishe' t' be no one bu' me." He said that part more quietly, then looked her over slowly, before bringing red back up to hazel. His meaning was clear. He hadn't ever wished to be anyone but himself-- except for right now. He wished he was you, or that the Doctor saw in him what he saw in you. But he wouldn't say it out loud.

He only smiled.

"Okay, wha' you say. You ain' stupi'. You gonna fig'r 'dis all ou' soon 'nuff. An' you gonna wish you'd lis'en t' me. When you rea'y t' lis'en, you fin' me. We talk." However, that was the last that he'd say, because he was turning then, leaving her alone in front of the gas station, to head for the barn. He wanted to find dry clothes and a certain Time Lord.

He couldn't mean it. He couldn't. But he did. Even as furious as she was, as strange as this whole morning had felt, she knew when someone was being completely dishonest. And Remy wasn't. It didn't make any sense.

She felt the familiar sting of tears in her eyes, but she fought them back angrily as she watched him head towards his precious barn. Hopefully John would be there and could maybe talk some reason into this bordering-on-insane man. Who the hell did he think he was?

Chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath, she watched until he was out of her direct line of sight, then turned on her heel and stormed back to the museum to attempt to get dry. Past time for those boys to get their lazy selves out of bed anyway.
