Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 17, jack harkness, location: in town, the doctor (nine), the doctor (ten)

Who:  The Ninth Doctor, the Tenth Doctor, & Jack Harkness
What:  Insight, mourning and questions.
Where: The town-- they'll be moving as they talk.
When: Day 17; About 8:25pm
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete

It was likely that Ten had wanted to be alone after the murder of his friends Ianto, Sarah Jane, Shannon, and Remy LeBeau.. In fact, Nine knew it would be so. And he, really, wanted to be alone too. He'd left Rose in the care of the werewolf child, which he knew Ten would hate, but he was sure she'd be safe there. The damage had been done for the day. And Nine had started out about the town, not to find time for himself.. but rather, to find himself. He wanted to discuss Sarah Jane. He'd known she was here, he'd talked with her over the journals. But he hadn't met with her. He'd known Jack was here, and he'd avoided him, too. He'd avoided them all. Less for his own sanity, and more for theirs. When this was all over, he was gone. It was done. Why get them all confused and tangled up about it? This regeneration was done. Best to let it die.

But he'd found that he simply couldn't, and he'd written that message to Jack, telling him to meet him at the clock tower around nine. He had half an hour to talk with himself, get things straight and settled, then go back for Jack. You had half an hour to get yourself together, Doctor, and help the people who needed you. You were lucky to even get that. If he knew himself, and he liked to think he knew himself well, he'd definitely be alone somewhere. Somewhere familiar.

The drawing had shown that ginger and Ten in the barn, so that was where the Time Lord headed, his mind still lingering on thoughts of Sarah Jane. His beautiful Sarah Jane.

He stepped into the barn a moment later, hands hanging limply at his sides. When had he gotten so in the habit of pushing his hands into his jacket pockets? He'd seen Ten do that nearly every time he'd spoken with him. Hm.

They'd spent their day in the tunnel. The Doctor had climbed out of that tunnel with the brothers Winchester and he hadn't even bothered to close the trap door. There was nothing down there. Nothing. Just a bunch of tunnels with locked doors he couldn't hope to open, food wrappers, and the smell of smoke. There was a maze under their feet; a maze they didn't have any hope of being able to navigate well enough to find their friends; or at this point the bodies of their friends.

People had seen it. They'd seen those bodies go limp and die. And while this place was notorious for playing the game of 'just kidding!' with each passing moment the hope of his friends returning became more and more bleak. It made the Doctor's stomach turn. He'd seen what had been going on in each of those monitors. He knew what happened to his friends. He may not have seen their terminal moments; but, he had a pretty good idea. And that idea made his head spin.

Sitting on the edge of that blasphemous couch, the Doctor sat with his head in his hands. Nobody would come out and find him here. Nobody ever came out here save he and Remy. And lately, it'd just been Remy. He was thinking of Shannon. Thinking of how hopeful she'd been when he told her he'd get her out. He'd failed her. He was thinking Ianto and those nasty thoughts he had about him - he didn't even know if half of them were true. Bloody Torchwood. Of course there was Sarah Jane and her smile. That was the most difficult thing to ignore. His wonderful Sarah Jane. Your Doctor couldn't save you this time, could he?

So those thoughts swirled around the Doctor's head fitful and angry. He couldn't save them. He kept telling people he would and he could and he didn't. For now he despaired a little; but soon that sadness would turn to rage.

"I watched her, on the telly. Be beaten to death." Came that too-familiar voice, from the entrance of the barn. And the other Time Lord began coming closer then, dark shoes stepping carefully onto the wooden floorboards, carrying him ever nearer to the older Doctor sitting there on the edge of that awful, large couch-bed. "It could have been a trick, the others have said that this has happened before, that people have been seen killed before, and they've come back bright and bushy an hour later, none the worse for wear. They could be fine." But the tone of his voice said well enough that he didn't think so.

No, the Doctor thought they were dead. All of them. His beautiful, brilliant Sarah Jane.. dead in some room, left to rot. And he couldn't save her. He couldn't save any of them. Neither of him could. What good was he? Two Doctors, and absolutely no way to save anyone? They'd failed. And they'd lost Sarah Jane because of it. They'd lost all those people. And Ten had lost that Cajun.

Nine still wondered what sort of a relationship that had been. He wondered what sort of friendship. Ten had said he was a friend, but somehow Nine thought there was something else going on, but he hadn't guessed it. Not quite yet. He had his suspicions, his ideas.. but it wasn't there yet. "I told Jack to meet us at the clock tower. Get up. We'll take a walk around the town, make sure everyone's secure inside, then go meet him." A walk from the barn, completely around the outside of the town and back again, would lead them right into the clock tower. It was the perfect turn around the town.

He had his specs on. He hadn't bothered to take them off since he'd been looking through his journal which now laid beside him. He was thinking and his glasses helped him think. Just like tapping his feet helped him think. Just like not breathing helped him think. Nothing was going to help him think right now, and certainly that familiar voice from in front of him wasn't helping him think, either.

"I didn't see," John Smith replied quietly. "They could be." He said quietly. He knew they could be. What bothered him most of all that he couldn't do a damned thing about any of it. He couldn't find the rooms they were in. He couldn't make Jenny give it all up. He couldn't break the glass. He couldn't do anything. He looked up to catch the other Time Lord's eye. Can you read that look, Doctor? That's the look of quiet restraint because this other version of you is boiling on the inside.

Soundlessly he pushed himself up. He wanted to make a quip about being bossy, or about not particularly wanting to go for a walk; instead, he just gave in. He had too many other things clogging up his thoughts that the last thing he really needed to do was get in a fight with himself over who was more stubborn.

"Fine," he was already walking with languid strides out of the barn. Sorry, Doctor, John Smith is feeling a bit quiet at the moment.

"They could be." He agreed once again, but he let it end there, because he'd seen that look, he knew it well, and he was turning and waiting for John to come up along his side before he began to walk as well, following him out of the barn, then taking a few longer strides to once again walk beside him instead of behind him. If was just his nature, he couldn't walk behind someone.. not even himself. Call it arrogance or pride or loneliness, he just attributed it to wanting to walk beside someone. That's all. He read no further into it.

And as they made their way outside and away from the wooden structure, onto the road, and towards the town, the younger version would speak up again, not really so much for the other Time Lord's benefit.. but for his own. "If they're still alive, they'll be back tonight." Since last time this happened (so he'd heard), everyone had come back hours later. Well, those hours had passed.. that time was up. If they didn't arrive soon, even the Doctors would have to give them up for dead. "If not, tomorrow we go on as usual." Tonight was their time to grieve. Well, the next half an hour, anyway. Because then they'd be meeting up with Jack, and they would have to focus on him and his needs, instead of their own. That was just what the Doctor did, no matter how old he got, he would always put someone else ahead of himself. Always.

He knew they could be. There was hope, always hope. He could hold to that hope, right? He could feel it in the back of his mind that strongest thing in the entire universe: hope. He could sense it and touch it and taste it. There could still be hope for his friends.

When Nine came up to walk beside him he understood. Of course it made sense to him that he wouldn't follow well. Ten didn't follow well, either. He might bide his time at the back of the line, but only because he was taking score, and then then he wouldn't be there for long.

"Enough," the Doctor responded quietly to Nine's reminder that if they were coming back they'd be back tonight. He knew. He knew that all too well. He knew they'd be back before dawn or not at all. "We always go on, Doctor." Hands were pushing into his pockets as that road continued on it's merry way. John Smith looked at his shoes as they walked.

"Where's Rose?" Change the subject, Time Lord.

"She's with the werewolf boy. I think they're at the museum. We split up." Right after you'd told him to stay with her and he'd agreed. "She needed some time to think." No, Time Lord, you'd needed some time to think. Some time to grieve alone, silently, and wish for better things. Some time to think about what might happen, what could happen. Try to put it all into perspective. You had to keep them safe, keep the rest of them safe. That was your mission, Doctor. He thought best when he was alone and undisturbed.

So why had he come to find himself?

"Jack's taking the loss of those people hard. Is it any particular one, or just all of them in general?" Because he wanted his questions answered, wanted to know what he could do to fix a broken friend.

There was a large part of Jack that didn't want to show up at the clock tower. A very large part. The Doctor (Nine, he was calling in his head to keep the two men separate as, frankly, he wasn't having any of this John Smith nonsense), however, had asked her to come and Jack wanted to see him. He wasn't sure why as he was still pissed at the man who left him behind with nothing but Dalek dust.

Jack, however, wasn't holding too much of a grudge. Just a rather large one. The size of Cardiff and London combined. Right.

He was sitting on the ground, back against the clock tower while he waited for the Doctor. Jack, however, didn't look like his usual self which was why he was avoiding everyone. Jack wanted to be able to mourn in solitude and he really had no desire to see anyone. The worst part of this was that he didn't have anything of Ianto's -- at least not here.

Not even a tie.

John Smith spied Jack quite a ways off. He saw him there, pacing it seemed, looking simultaneously wiped and caged. The Time Lord looked at his shoes. He'd been doing that a lot today mostly because he felt like he'd failed everyone. He'd failed those who died. He'd failed those left behind, too. He'd failed everyone and right in front of him was living, breathing, aching proof of that failure. He was so very sorry, Jack.

Carrying on down the road the time for apologies was pushed to the back of his mind. He was the Doctor, dammit, and he had to put on that brave confident face. "Captain!" He called out, giving the con-man a chance to hear them coming if he didn't already see them.

As his counterpart called out, Nine remained quiet, taking a few more steps in that silence before he spoke up again, leaning his head a little closer to the younger-looking version of himself. "So how angry is he? We did leave him behind on a Dalek ship, unable to die." For Lord knew how long. But notice that, John Smith? He was now saying 'we', not 'I' or 'Me'. But 'We'. You did something wrong, and you were the same person. But when you were trying to distinguish? You were two completely separate entities. Of course you'd noticed, it was you talking. You knew what he was thinking. He laid a lot of blame on himself, for a lot of things. It wasn't just one incarnation that had screwed up, or that had done something wrong, or that had failed to see.. it was all of them. Everything that Ten had ever done, he could blame Nine as well-- as Nine could blame Eight, and on down the line. They were all the same, when it came to screwing up. They shared the blame.

Curse of the Time Lords, perhaps.

No, Jack didn't see the others approaching until Ten called out to him. He picked his head up, hoping he didn't look as shoddy as he felt and slowly hauled himself to his feet. Jack didn't feel like himself and not even forcing a smile to his face was going to cut it. It was hard to say if Nine would notice the difference in him, but he knew Ten would know -- Ten would understand.

Jack drew in a breath and leaned against the far corner of the clock tower, waiting for the two to come to him. Nine owed him that, didn't he?

At last, though, Jack gave a wave as the two men grew closer. So Nine really was here. It was one thing to hear him, it was another entirely to see him at last. "'lo!" Jack called out, then shoved his hand back into the pocket of his his greatcoat. So much for mourning in private.

"Clung to the outside of the TARDIS while it was going through the time vortex mad?" That had been a sight. "Though, I think he might be largely over it. Still might want to offer some sort of apology, for old time's sake..." You might be the same person, Doctor; but John Smith had explained and apologized on your behalf, it might mean more coming from you, no?

The Time Lord watched as Jack turned around, looking at the pair as they slowly approached; well, slowly for Ten's part anyway. He could spy at thirty paces the look on Jack's face and knew quite clearly what was going on in the Time Agent's head. Occupational hazard - spend too much time with someone and you start to be able to read their faces.

Coming to a slow stop he looked out past Jack at the clock tower. He didn't want to look at either of you for the moment - too busy tuning in to that confidence and rage and tuning out the hurt and self blame.

Jack was putting on a show. One sideways glance from John Smith and he knew it for sure. He was putting on a show the same way Ten was - only Ten was more practiced at it. The Time Lord had lost so many over the years that losing another? Well, it was sort of old hat. He'd done it before and he knew how to keep those emotions in check around those who remained lest they get upset or exploit them.

Jack put those heavy arms up around his shoulder and he let them hang there a moment before veering off in his own direction. Hearing that last bit about a convenient shag and rubbing at his brow; he could hear the lie in that one, con man. "You don't have to lie about it, Captain," he'd tell his friend quietly, casting a look over his shoulder that held a certain understanding to it. Sure, Nine wouldn't be empathetic; but, Ten could be. Or, at least he'd try.

"Wasn't anything we could do for them. Any of them. I searched those tunnels with the Winchesters myself. We couldn't find anything. Locked doors, dead ends. Nothing." The Doctor swallowed, he hadn't told Jack about the tunnels until this very moment.

Great timing.

He was putting on a show.. but then again, all three of them were. Jack was just the worst out of all of them. Nine, of course, as a very close runner up, but he didn't seem to take the cake. And Ten? Well. Ten, by this time, had become very versed in hiding it all away, though he wasn't perfect by any means, sometimes it was obvious to tell something was eating at him. Like now.

And he might have gone on to say something more about Jack and his lying, except that the other Time Lord was mentioning the tunnels and.. oh. By the look on his older counterpart's face, he hadn't meant to say that. So there were tunnels running beneath this place? "Important information you could have made us aware of at an earlier time, Doctor." He chided himself none-too-gently. Nine really wasn't that gentle, loving sort. He didn't do domestics, and Jack and Ianto? Definitely domestics. Even the way that Ten seemed to be acting with Rose was.. well. He wasn't even going to get into that, because he'd been feeling the beginnings of that in his stomach for months now. Ten had only made it a reality for him.

The problem was, Jack usually tried to keep from letting himself get in too deep with any of his lovers for this specific reason. One or three night stands didn't allow enough time to get attached. Ianto, however, had wound up staying with Jack for the better part of two years. Yes, he was going to be worse at hiding his true emotions. Then again, Jack was firmly convinced that had he been with anyone else he would have had a better shot at hiding his feelings.

He was just unlucky to be standing near the two men who knew him far too well. The two liviing men, correction.

At first, Jack didn't think he had heard correctly. But then Nine was confirming that simple fact about the tunnels. Jack stopped walking, his arm falling away from Nine as he looked at the Doctor.

"And when were you planning on telling me about those?" Jack asked flatly.

Right. See Time Lord. See Time Lord take off his Chuck. See Time Lord take off Chuck and put it in his mouth. Good job, Time Lord.

"Ehrm.." He started, scratching the top of his head. He'd already had this conversation once today and that time he was able to sort of ignore the brothers Winchester and play down the fact that he hadn't told anyone about the tunnels.

"I hadn't told anyone because I didn't want mass panic. To tell people there are tunnels under our feet? Just what we needed another reason for people to be terrified. So, I closed them up." Well, he'd thought he'd closed them up. As best he could tell, he had. Fat lot of good that had dome them, eh?

"I'm sorry," he said to both of them, looking from one pair of blue eyes to the other. Really what he was apologizing for was failing; but, that was beside the point. Any momentary pause in his pace had been forgotten and Ten was back to walking, following the road as it wound around town.

Oh, Time Lord. See younger Time Lord? See him angry. See him vengeful. Was it possible to be vengeful against yourself? Maybe. It wouldn't be smart, of course.. and that was what Nine's brain was telling him, so he did his best to heed the warning. But why in the world had he kept such information from himself? As if he were going to panic and be terrified and come out with his pitchfork and bible and demand justice. No, that was ridiculous to think!

So, mind made up, the other Time Lord opened his mouth. And inserted foot. "I bet you told your new companion, didn't you? Bet he knew all about it, hm?" The younger, angrier Doctor pressed. "Did you tell Remy LeBeau, Doctor? Who exactly is Remy LeBeau, anyway?" The hundred dollar question, wasn't it? If you weren't sorry before, Ten, you certainly would be shortly. And when the Doctor didn't answer instantly, Nine was turning to look at Jack. "How about you, Jack? Remy LeBeau?" This time, though, his question came with a smile instead of that serious look. "Did he know about the tunnels?" Where exactly was he going with this? Oh. It'd come to you both, soon enough.

No, the Doctor didn't explain things -- neither of them explained things. But there had always been a sort of understanding that existed between them. Jack had always learned enough to be of assistance and didn't the Doctor(s) realise how Jack looked up to them? It seemed that he and Nine were on the same side but the man he had known the longest, who he had helped twice... lived through a year of pure hell with...

Where was all of that? How did a red-eyed Cajun erase all of that?

Jack said nothing about the read of character. He knew damn well what sort of man he'd been before he had met the Doctor. Knew what sort of man was lurking just beneath the Captain's exterior. It wouldn't take much to push Jack back to as he was before Nine's wonderful influence.

Nodding along with each of Nine's questions, Jack did eventually let his hand fall away from the Doctor's shoulder. It shoved deep into the pockets of his greatcoat and the vision hit his mind of Remy standing before Ten wearing his coat. Having this same conversation. Fuck me.

"No, I didn't forget about it and yes, I know he was injured. But Ianto also understood one thing: that my loyalty to you always came first." Jack's eyes darted between both Doctors so they knew that that loyalty extended to both of them. "If he knew I stayed by his bedside when there were tunnels to explore in an attempt to get us out of here? He never would have forgiven me. He understood. He wasn't the Torchwood you knew and hated, Ten, he was my Torchwood."

"Oh, what's the use?" The Time Lord spun away, raising his hands in defeat.

"Doesn't matter anyway, does it? He's dead. Remy LeBeau is dead. Not like the three of us here who can't die. No, he's been offed. I'd like to say I think he could have been sent home; but there is quite a bit of empirical evidence to the contrary..."

The Doctor was listening half heartedly as Jack said that Ianto was part of his Torchwood. "Not by the way he talked about Canary Warf he wasn't." His tone was furious. Now you knew what he thought of that lover of yours, Jack. He didn't trust him and he only tolerated him because you did. This wasn't the Doctor you knew following the coming darkness and the moving of worlds. This was a Doctor who didn't know much about Torchwood save they shot beams at things they didn't understand as they retreated and reduced them to ash. That's what your Ianto did, Jack.

"So, the both of you can sod off. You want an apology? Well, I'm not going to give you one. I didn't tell anyone about the tunnels because I was protecting Jenny. There would have been a witch hunt, you know this. I'm surprised there wasn't one already after she outted herself. So, right, you can be all upset; but, I'm going to go and try to get some sleep." Well, let's not put too fine a point on it, shall we?

Nine, instead of calling him back, or taunting him, or saying something horribly awful to him, because he could have. It was all right there on the tip of his tongue. The Doctor who had put an end to the Time War in the blink of an eye, the Doctor who had killed everyone he ever knew and loved, who had killed millions of Daleks, who had destroyed his home world to save the worlds of so many others, that Doctor was no one to be trifled with.

"You see, Jack, that's why I try not to get emotionally involved. It clouds your judgment." But that was all he'd say, before he turned his back on himself and began walking away. Look at that. Two angry Time Lords. Two storms rushing at one another. But at least they were putting distance between them. For now.

Wait, what the hell was happening here? Enter one very pissed off, but very confused Time Agent. Let's start with the pissed off first and deal with that one before we entered the realm of confusing.

"I... I'm sorry," Jack said quickly in regards to Remy's death. Well, the Doctor was going to get a bit of sympathy from Jack on that one. He wasn't sure why, granted, only that he was growing soft in his old age. Of the three of them, he had a good thousand years on both Doctors. Whoop-dee-do.

The sympathy was gone the moment Ten began speaking in that way about Ianto. We did not speak of Ianto in that manner and we sure as hell didn't speak of the dead in such a manner. Discounting the fact that Jack had just called Remy's loyalties into question. However, in Jack's defense, he didn't know Gambit/Remy was dead.

"He was there, of course he was going to speak of Canary Wharf in that manner! Not to mention his girlfriend was killed during the attack and he was one of a small handfull who survived." No, we weren't going to bring up the partially converted cyberwoman in the basement. "I don't begrudge him his attitude. Do you honestly think I would have hired him had he shared the mentality of Torchwood One? He's a fucking archivist and spends more time in the basement than anything." Yes, Ten, Jack was pissed.

Turning, he looked at Nine before the other man began to walk away. Something that had started out so innocently had turned into one hell of a mess. Earlier Jack had been between two Doctors when things had been light and jovial. Now he was between two Doctors in a very different light. Rooted to the spot, he looked at the two men, unsure of what to do.

"Doct--" No, that wouldn't work. "Nine." Maybe that would stop him.

Well, at least the younger Time Lord didn't throw out the wide variety of insults that he could have. Nine knew almost all of Ten's sins and could have used them against him in a rather efficient manner.

He didn't even look back as the Doctor called his judgment into question. No, he didn't need to answer to you, he'd already told you that. He didn't need to apologize to you, and he told you he wouldn't be. So, you think that sticking him with little jabs like that are going to make much of a difference Time Lord? Think again.

What had got him going was the tone that Jack took in response to his observations about Ianto. "Well we all know who didn't survive it," the Doctor spat at Jack, turning around with narrowed eyes. He didn't need to say it. He didn't need to say how Rose had been sent off to a paralel world and listed among the dead. She might as well have been dead, locked off and impossible to get to. Forever. "And it was their fault. And he was part of it." Bloody archivist. The Time Lord rolled his eyes with another thrash of his arm as if trying to stifle that tone of Jack's.

He was turning around again, coat billowing out behind him. He didn't need this from either of you. Not at all.

John Smith had stopped listening the moment Jack insinuated that Rose being off in a parallel world was somehow better. It was worse he'd seen here there, crying on the beach totally unable to tell her how he felt because he ran out of time. She'd sobbed, telling him that she loved him and all he could manage was Rose Tyler. That was it. So, she'd live her life never knowing. Wasn't that just an epic twist of fate, a knife in the side that was twisting. The Doctor said nothing. They'd already said enough in the presence of Nine. No sense giving the other Time Lord more spoilers than those he already had.

Nine stared at him for a moment or so, and John Smith held those blue eyes. It was impossible to be intimidated by yourself, after all. No, he was just fine, thank you and could do this all day. Because, you know what? He hadn't done anything wrong. He might have been a little uncouth about it; but, he wasn't wrong. Seeing that hand grab Jack's the Doctor was already turning on his heel and walking off in another direction. He'd been kicked enough for one day, thank you.

Jack was right, of course. After a few moments of walking in silence, he slowly came to a stop and released Jack's hand abruptly. Moment gone, Time Agent, sorry about that, hope you'd enjoyed it while it had lasted. "He'll come back." He knew himself better than anyone else, he knew that he wouldn't let it all end on that note. "He just lost someone he cared about too, Jack." In case the Captain hadn't picked up on that, Nine was letting him in on the little secret. "We're all a little tense now. Come and spend the night in the office with Rose and I. We've got a furry little teenager staying with us right now.. it might be permanent, I'm afraid. Give a girl a dog and she'll pamper it and cling onto it, dress it in funny little outfits." His hands lifted as if to indicate someone dancing around a doll, but they lowered as quickly as they'd come up.

"We've got enough room for one more." If he needed to be somewhere tonight, somewhere where he wouldn't be alone. Nine knew just how empty a room could be when you'd lost someone you cared deeply about.

It wasn't clear which gave Jack pause first, the fact that the Doctor had slowly slowed their forward pace or the way he dropped Jack's hand as if it were a hot potato. "Maybe," Jack replied, throwing a glance over his shoulder. This was the first time he'd ever walked away from the Doctor and it wasn't sitting well with him either.

Jack sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. "That much I gathered." But don't make my pain seem trivial compared to yours, Ten. Just because Ten didn't trust Ianto didn't mean that Jack's pain was trivial. And, frankly, over two years with one man more than beat a few days as far as Jack was concerned.

The pain he felt for Michael's death notwithstanding.

"God, that doesn't surprise me," Jack said, shaking his head. "I blame you for furthering what had to be an already inquisitive nature, you know." Though Jack wouldn't change that about Rose for anything.

"I..." Jack drew in a breath, shaking his head. "Not tonight. I'll be at the museum but I just... I need my time myself tonight. I promise I'll come see you in the morning." Grinning suddenly, Jack leaned forward and laid a kiss full on the Doctor's lips. Some things would never change.

Nine nodded once, when he was told that Jack needed to be alone tonight. The Doctor could understand that.. he really could. He had to be by himself often.. but then Jack was stepping up and kissing him, causing blue eyes to go a little wider, and he let out a short breath, but smiled and shook his head. "Captain Jack Harkness. Defrocked. Go on to your room. I expect not to hear any screaming from you tonight, I've got a twenty year old girl and a sixteen year old boy sleeping with me, they don't need to hear your lewd noises and get any ideas of their own."

Even as he said that, the Doctor was taking a step away, then turning, to head towards the gas station. He had things to get done today. "You had better see me in the morning, Jack Harkness. If not, at least write me. Let me know you're okay." And there you go, Jack. That was as much concern as you'd get from this Doctor, he wasn't Ten. He was the colder, harder Nine. Could you get used to it after dealing with the more gentle-hearted Ten? The darker Eleven? The more human-seeming Twelve? It was a big difference, wasn't it? "Don't forget." He reminded, before he was walking away. He was always walking away.
