Entry tags:!complete, day 17, location: museum, remus lupin, rose tyler, the doctor (nine)

Who:  Remus Lupin, Rose Tyler & The Ninth Doctor
What:  Morning comes and the trio surfaces..
Where:  In the Museum.
When:  Day 17, 7:45am
Rating:  PG
Status:  Complete

It had been a very confusing day for the young werewolf, who wasn't quite sure exactly what was going on. He'd arrived in this strange.. prison town, and he'd met a very nice young woman-- two of them, in fact.. one of which had originally planned on killing him, but now apparently was going to let him go. Then he'd come back to meet with the first young woman and her.. father? He must have been her father. He seemed protective of her.. and he had slept with them, in the museum, that night. He wasn't exactly accustomed to sleeping on the floor, on sheets, but he had done well enough for himself, considering the amount of pain he was in. But he hadn't shown a bit of discomfort and had been gracious and thankful for what he'd been offered. It was better than sleeping outside. The man-- The Doctor, his name was (but a Doctor of what?)-- had looked at him with some concern but hadn't remarked on his injured status and had only told him that it was best they all sleep and converse in the morning.

Remus had been happy to follow that order, and had ended up sleeping under the same sheet with Rose (though he'd blushed for the first ten minutes) and had fallen asleep quite quickly, and slept quite soundly. it was a testament to how tired he really was. And during the night, he'd cuddled up.

But come morning, the boy had woken up in more pain than he'd fallen asleep in, and when he'd sat up, he'd realized that his shirt was stained with red (he'd moved around too much and had once again pulled at the scabs on his chest), and that he'd stained the sheets, as well. His pants, likewise, had a few stripes of red and his hand had bled through the fresh gauze there. His cheek, however, had only a bit of blood staining the very center of the gauze, and had clearly not been very disturbed. So immediately upon finding out what a mess he'd made, he was climbing carefully to his feet and surveying the damage, before lifting hazel eyes to the Doctor, who was already sitting up and awake, having watched the scene unfold in front of him. Remus felt instantly ashamed, though he didn't know why, exactly, and was looking back down at Rose, who surely would have been awoken by his sudden movements. She, too, would have some of that blood on him, but not too much. There wasn't terribly a lot to begin with, but certainly enough that it had raised a concern with the young man doing the bleeding.

"I'm sorry." He apologized quickly, a hand lifting to pluck his shirt away from his chest, but it stuck, the dried blood having fused it to the injury during the wee hours of morning. Oh, great. That was going to hurt later. "I'm so sorry." He apologized again.

"I think I can manage, thank you, Rose. It's not that long of a walk.. and there's someone that I met in the journals.. says she knows me. I've consented to meet with her and should probably be on my way and changing my clothing before she comes about. I don't want to startle her." With all the blood on his clothing, that was. Considerate little boy, didn't want anyone worrying over him, though he knew they would anyway. That was just how it worked, sometimes. And he didn't mind it so much, really.. he just wished they'd concentrate their efforts onto something that would matter.

Maybe he'd get himself looked at later today, by a real doctor. He'd been seen and briefly cleaned up at the clinic, but that was all that he'd allowed to happen. Because really, he was fine. But he knew there'd be a lot of activity around here, and didn't imagine he'd get much time to rest and heal. Still.

"Thank you, really. And thank you also, Doctor. I really appreciate you both taking me in and looking after me." He offered them both a smile, first for the Doctor, who smiled widely back, then for Rose, as he was returning her hug, then backing off a step.. and heading for the door.

The Doctor had smiled back at the young man, of course, and watched as he left the room. And only once the door clicked closed did he tug out his journal and write a few choice words (to himself) before snapping it closed and looking back up at Rose. "You're going to stick with me today. No more wandering off, alright? This place is dangerous, and we need to stay together." Or she needed to stay where he put her.

"But if for some reason we do get separated." He gave her a pointed look then, because he knew she'd wander off all on her own if he wasn't looking. He really did need to buy her that little monkey backpack. It'd be so much easier to keep track of her. "Stay near other people. Or keep close to him," He gestured towards the door where the boy had left, "If you decide to wander off. He looks like he's brittle, but if he's really a werewolf, Rose, he's a tank and he'll be able to help if the situation arises." Understand? His look asked the unspoken question.

Rose turned, ever so slowly, to face the man in front of her. Did he really think she was going to be his submissive little being after that display in front of Remus? He'd finally snapped and gone mad, if he did. Not going to happen.

Fists clenched at her sides, she forced her voice into something resembling calm. "I'm sorry, did you just tell me what I was going to do today?" she asked, her eyebrows tilting northward. Oh, he could be a pretentious brat when he wanted. "No, no, I think I'll run off on my own. Go find some deep, deserted spot in the forest where I can be easily attacked. Ripe for the picking, us stupid apes, after all."

Alright, so maybe she was being unreasonable. Very unreasonable. But he'd earned her wrath, whether intentional or not. "And that kid is just a boy, werewolf or not. He looks like he's been beaten half to death, he's scared, and he's fragile right now. If anything, I'll protect him and not the other way around."

The Poor Doctor had had a very trying day, understandably. So when Rose began to posture up and become her normal, beautiful, defiant self, he couldn't help his immediate resistance to her want of freedom. Nine had a way of getting irrationally angry, for no good reason. He also had a way of getting irrationally happy, for no good reason. Funny, how that worked. But all the same, he pinned those impossibly blue eyes onto Rose and was opening his mouth to refute everything she'd said..

But then he stopped.

Perhaps it'd be better for her, to believe she had something to protect. She seemed to work her best under pressure, knowing others were on the line. Knowing friends were on the line. He'd witnessed that first hand. So, after a few seconds, he smiled again and nodded.

"Alright, Rose Tyler, you had better keep your eye on him, then, if you end up with him. And that John Smith. Worthless, he is." And with that, he was turning to grab up a few things he'd collected up the previous day. He needed to get to the carnival. Then the gas station. He had things to dismantle.

Admittedly, she'd expected more of a battle to keep her in one place. In fact, she already had a good ten minute long spiel prepared about how she was an adult and he was in just as much danger as she was and who was he to lay down the law? But then he went and got all reasonable and understanding and ugh, she kind of hated when he did that.

She tilted her head, studying him. Crazy git. "Fine," she said firmly, lifting her chin. She'd be defiant whether he was agreeing with her or not. "He's got another friend here, the one he's off to meet now. But you know I will."

Turning, she reached for her journal. She wasn't leaving till he did, at least. No reason to rile him up some more. Curling up on the floor, she looked up at him, the rebellious gleam still lingering in her eyes. "And he's not worthless. He's been good to me. You, too, honestly. Talks highly of you."

"Sure he's got lots of friends. Lots and lots of them. Bright and bunny, that one. With his fine suit and his poofy hair. Did you see his hair?" He turned back to look at her when he asked that, eyebrows lifted. "At least it's not curly." And with that he was back to collecting up the gizmos he had laying on the desk. Ten. Really, he was something else, that Ten. Nine had no idea what he'd eventually become, but it was something he'd never imagined. Something no Time Lord had ever imagined.

"Are you really trying to argue with me when I've already given in? Really?" He seemed amused, though, and was tossing the items into a small bag and turning to head for the door, to meet with her. "And of course he talks highly of me. I'm the Doctor." Pompous ass, but how could you deny it, Rose? He was the Doctor. And he was impressive. So impressive. The problem was, he knew it. And while he wasn't as outwardly arrogant as his later counterpart, he had his moments. This was one of them.

She couldn't help it. Rose rolled her eyes and laughed quietly. "You're an idiot sometimes, you do know that don't you?" she said, crossing her arms and looking up at him. "I meant Remus was off to meet a friend." He really was jealous, wasn't he? He sounded it. Picking on John only because of his hair? "And of course I've seen his hair, I'm not blind, you know. Great hair, that."

Really. Really. Really great hair. Girl could run her fingers through it, that was for sure. Not that Rose was thinking about it. But the option was there, at least!

"And you do know that, in most galaxies at least, you being the Doctor means little to most people? They simply value your brain and perhaps your ability to help people who need it?" She sounded smug, and maybe she was. Just a bit.

Was he jealous of John? Could you really be jealous of yourself?

Yes.

And he was. But not in the way she thought. He wasn't worried that Rose was going to run off with him, or anything of the like.. he was simply concerned that she would find that next version more appealing. That she'd be glad he regenerated. And that wasn't a thought he particularly enjoyed. Not because he was jealous, but because.. well.. you didn't want anyone wanting another version of you, while you were that first version. It was like a slap to the face.

"Yeah, fantastic hair." But he sounded a little mifted as he said it, and was finally moving his way out into the main museum with his small bag. "Well, of course they value my brain and my ability to help them. That's why they think highly of me. But don't think that whole galaxies don't quake, or rejoice, upon hearing it." Because they did. She'd learn that soon, she'd find out. The Daleks. Just that word.. just one word. Doctor. And she'd find out the power of that name.

Rose had already begun to have an idea of the Doctor's ultimate power. He was a force to be reckoned with, she wasn't so stupid and blind that she didn't see that. The Daleks had targeted him with good reason. And he had been the one to finish off that war of his, even if it had left him completely alone in the Universe. Well. Alone except her. Fat lot of good that did him.

Ducking her head, she smiled as she hid her face in the book. He was already making a run for it anyway, no matter what she was about to say. Silly git. Good thing she loved him. "Fine, Earth doesn't care! We would, but us humans are just so dumb!" she called after him, shaking her head. And because he was such a secret. If Earth just knew about him, and how many times he'd saved them, he'd be hailed as a hero. Which weren't they just fighting about that?

It figured. It was just like she told Remus; they weren't arguing about him, they were just arguing. And then they'd switch subjects and it would be like nothing had gone wrong. Typical them.

"Now you're getting it." He flashed her a smile and easily led them through the heart of the museum, all the way to the doors that would lead them outside and into the fresh air. "It's a bright new day, Rose. Don't wander off by yourself." He wouldn't make you stay next to him all day, but he didn't want you being alone. He wanted you to be in a group, or at least with one other person. He wanted you to be safe, where ever you were.

"Do you have your journal?" They didn't yet know about the horrors outside.. but they would soon enough, once they got out. Once the screaming started. And Nine would start to wish he hadn't allowed Rose to run off.

He was such a pain. Rose had had to scramble to her feet to follow him. She'd hurried so quickly that she still had her journal in her hand. And she proved it as she held it up, waving it in front of his eyes. "You think?" she asked, every bit of teenaged sarcasm dripping from her voice. To complete the image of every mother's nightmare, she rolled her eyes and put the hand not holding the journal on her hip in a tight fist.

"Think I'll stay in for a bit." Don't let him see her leave. Then it wouldn't matter who or where she went off to, because he wouldn't know. "Maybe read over my journal, explore this place here. Can't get into much trouble in one building, can I?" She smiled innocently at him, leaning her head sweetly on his shoulder. Oh yeah. She knew when she had someone wrapped. And the Doctor? Was all hers, whether he liked it or not.

Oh, she was so right on the money. Damn her for that. And the Doctor, who knew he was wrapped around her pinky finger, tried not to be as displeased about it as he could have been. He only gave her a firm look. "You're going to stay here, then? Write me a note, if you leave. And let me know who you've gone off with and where you are." Go ahead, Rose. 'Yes Mum', hah, it would serve him right. He was acting like one.

Then again, people had just found dead bodies curled up next to them, so he had reason to be concerned. "Stay out of trouble." He advised again, but smiled this time, and lowered a hand to grip hers briefly, before releasing it and moving down those stairs at a quick pace. He had things to do!

Rose could only roll her eyes again and laugh. She leaned against the doorway, watching him go. "Absolutely, honey, have a good day at work!" she called after him, teasingly. After all, the Doctor didn't do domestic, and little would drive him as nuts as being thought of as the breadwinning husband while his little woman stayed home and did the chores.

Not that she would ever, ever allow such a scenario. Even if the two of them were...well. She wouldn't ever be left alone at home minding her own business. And he knew that, which is why she got about a dozen more warnings before he left. Git.

Still, she watched him until he was halfway down the road. She wasn't the only one who needed to stay out of trouble. He attracted it as much as she did. And nothing scared her more than losing him to this awful place.
