Who:  Remus Lupin, Rose Tyler & The Ninth Doctor
What:  Morning comes and the trio surfaces..
Where:  In the Museum.
When:  Day 17, 7:45am
Rating:  PG
Status:  Complete

It had been a very confusing day for the young werewolf, who wasn't quite sure exactly what was going on. He'd arrived in this strange.. prison town, and he'd met a very nice young woman-- two of them, in fact.. one of which had originally planned on killing him, but now apparently was going to let him go. Then he'd come back to meet with the first young woman and her.. father? He must have been her father. He seemed protective of her.. and he had slept with them, in the museum, that night. He wasn't exactly accustomed to sleeping on the floor, on sheets, but he had done well enough for himself, considering the amount of pain he was in. But he hadn't shown a bit of discomfort and had been gracious and thankful for what he'd been offered. It was better than sleeping outside. The man-- The Doctor, his name was (but a Doctor of what?)-- had looked at him with some concern but hadn't remarked on his injured status and had only told him that it was best they all sleep and converse in the morning.

Remus had been happy to follow that order, and had ended up sleeping under the same sheet with Rose (though he'd blushed for the first ten minutes) and had fallen asleep quite quickly, and slept quite soundly. it was a testament to how tired he really was. And during the night, he'd cuddled up.

But come morning, the boy had woken up in more pain than he'd fallen asleep in, and when he'd sat up, he'd realized that his shirt was stained with red (he'd moved around too much and had once again pulled at the scabs on his chest), and that he'd stained the sheets, as well. His pants, likewise, had a few stripes of red and his hand had bled through the fresh gauze there. His cheek, however, had only a bit of blood staining the very center of the gauze, and had clearly not been very disturbed. So immediately upon finding out what a mess he'd made, he was climbing carefully to his feet and surveying the damage, before lifting hazel eyes to the Doctor, who was already sitting up and awake, having watched the scene unfold in front of him. Remus felt instantly ashamed, though he didn't know why, exactly, and was looking back down at Rose, who surely would have been awoken by his sudden movements. She, too, would have some of that blood on him, but not too much. There wasn't terribly a lot to begin with, but certainly enough that it had raised a concern with the young man doing the bleeding.

"I'm sorry." He apologized quickly, a hand lifting to pluck his shirt away from his chest, but it stuck, the dried blood having fused it to the injury during the wee hours of morning. Oh, great. That was going to hurt later. "I'm so sorry." He apologized again.

Instinctively, Rose took Remus' hand in hers, glaring slightly in the Doctor's direction. "He's not a science project," she defended, already picturing the Doctor making up some lab and storing the young man in it, studying him and poking at him. And finishing it up with a tri-fold display board with scalloped edge construction paper and stick-on block letters.

The logical part of her, the part that had spent the better part of the last year traveling with the man with the goofy smile, knew he'd never actually hurt Remus. But he was obviously so upset about his condition, and it hurt him, too. And she didn't want him hurting. The very idea that the boy could possibly face this again several times in one month terrified her.

"Besides, we have no idea where we are. We could be on Earth for all you know." Unlikely, maybe. But most everyone she'd met was from Earth. Why couldn't it happen?

The eldest made a face when Rose looked at him like that, but the smile returned and he lifted his eyebrows up at Rose. Had she really just said that? For all he knew? He knew an awful lot, it was dangerous to say things like that to him.

"We can't be on Earth, there are trees growing here that are incapable of growing in Earth's soil. Though I suppose they could have trucked soil in from other planets, but that seems like a very big project. Why not just move us to another planet? And I think even you daft bunch of apes would have noticed an intergalactic dirt-mover in your sky, dumping millions of cubic meters of soil into a secluded part of the world." There he went, insulting the humans again. But the smile hadn't left his face, he hadn't said it to be mean, only to get his point across, and he was turning blue eyes from her, onto the boy who now had his hand twined with hers. He lowered his gaze there and it lingered a moment before he looked up again. "We'll figure something out."

Rose was briefly self-conscious of the Doctor's gaze on her fingers laced through Remus'. But she knew it meant nothing more than a protective and comforting gesture and she looked back at him defiantly.

"Don't feel too badly," she told Remus, a hint of sarcasm in her voice, "when he's stressed he likes to insult species. Makes him feel tougher somehow." She'd once told Jack something very similar. And meant it. God, that man could drive her insane. "One day he's going to learn," she continued, turning dark hazel eyes on the Doctor, "that we're not quite as stupid as he seems to think."

She released Remus' hand, but stayed close to him, her stance protective. "Besides, that's not even the point. The first thing we need to worry about is how to keep Remus and everyone around him safe once...a month or so." She refused to say 'or more'. Refused. No horrible trick of nature would make this boy suffer more than that.

The youngest smiled some when Rose told him that. He liked to insult species? Why would he insult his own species? And how did he know so much about other planets? He turned hazel eyes onto the Doctor and opened his mouth to ask, but the expression on the Doctor's face caused him to close his mouth again, not wanting to anger the man who looked like he'd be a force to be reckoned with (it was the leather jacket, very menacing).

"I only need to be locked up somewhere, if there's a place that's secure." He offered up quietly, hand flexing some, mourning the loss of that warm hand of hers.

The look on the Doctor's face was one to be concerned about. He wasn't smiling anymore, but rather he was intensely focused on the two of them, though he seemed to relax once the hold was released, and he crossed his arms over his chest for a moment, before they dropped. That had never been his favorite position. "I insult species because you're thick. But he is right, all we have to do is find a cage, or a room, and lock him in there for the duration of the full moon, and we should all be safe enough, so long as he doesn't break out."

If he managed to break out, they would all be in very serious trouble, and Rose certainly wouldn't like the outcome. There was nothing to expel from this boy. If he became dangerous and started chasing after people, intent on killing, there'd be no choice but to.. well. Stop him from doing that, any way that they had to.

Rose wasn't half as thick as the Doctor seemed to think she was. She knew what a loose werewolf might mean. She didn't want to get killed any more than anyone else. But that was highly besides the point!

"Which is all fine and wonderful but he's also human, dammit. A real live boy, Pinocchio after the movie, all that. When the moon's not out and big and smiley? You treat him like it." Sometimes she thought all the Doctor saw was science and its benefits and the possibilities of what was and what could be. What he often missed was the person and what his actions might mean.

When she'd noticed the look on Remus' face, however, she turned to him with a small sigh. "You may as well know if you're sleeping here. The Doctor's an alien. A space traveler, and time, too. Complete with spaceship, all that." Talking to him about all of that made it a bit easier to turn back to the Doctor without the threatening glare that would make one Jackie Tyler proud.

"An alien?" He questioned softly, looking back towards the Doctor. But he seemed so.. normal. He didn't look like an alien. But he wasn't going to question her, she obviously knew better than he did, and the look on the older man's face said it all. He wasn't very pleased, which made it obvious that she had been telling the truth, because why else would he be upset?

"Are you an alien, too?" The werewolf prompted the pretty blonde woman standing beside (and slightly in front of) him so protectively. He actually felt safer with her there, and he wasn't sure why.

Rose Tyler! The look on his face said it for him, he didn't have to shout out her name like that. She'd just.. ran off at the mouth and told this boy that, like it wasn't anything, like it was just another thing for him to know. Sure, he'd been easy enough with telling her.. and.. Jack. And Adam. And, really.. most everyone they met.

Hm.

Still, it was his secret to tell, not hers! Alright, so many he was a little jealous of the young man that was getting all of Rose's attention now. But at least it wasn't Jack, or someone that she could conceivably get a crush on again. That wasn't something he was looking forward to. Rose Tyler and the men (and women) she took pity on. The Doctor had very little room for pity, unless it tied in with his guilt over the Time War. He was hard. Harder than any of his other incarnations, harder than any incarnations that would follow. It was the softer side that Rose would eventually fall for, and she'd fall hard and fast.

Then again, so would he. But that was a long time from now, and neither knew a thing about it. It was best that way.

Immediately, Rose knew she'd spoken too quickly, too easily. And yet, why should the young werewolf be the only one on display. She straightened her shoulders and ignored Remus for the moment, turning to meet the Doctor right in his bright blue eyes. He could say all he wanted about being hard. She knew the softer side of him. The one that had all but danced in glee when he'd been able to save people. The one who'd let her curl up at his side on more than one tragic occasion. The one who'd held her hand through good and bad.

He could think what he wanted. But she was already starting to fall for the big idiot, whether either of them knew it or not.

"You are. And it's not a secret. Lord knows you tell enough people. It's who you are. Just like Remus is a werewolf and I," she continued, glancing back at Remus, "am just a stupid ape." After all, how many times had he told her as much? "Just some stupid idiot who has no idea how the world works, clearly. I should just be willing to sacrifice people for the sake of study and trade one person for fifty and...and..."

Oh, she was fuming by then. And not just at the Doctor. Her anger was much more directed at years of feeling small and insignificant in the lives of just about everyone ever. And finding out that the universe was even greater than all of that and she was even more insignificant, even more stupid.

Turning away from the Time Lord, she reached out, straightening Remus' shirt carefully. "Look at you, you're a right mess. Ought to get back to the Thrift Store, see if you can't find anymore poleyester."
