The Doctor had already met with Gambit and made it completely and totally clear: No one was to tell Rose Tyler who he was. No one. The things it could do to the fabric of time? If she knew what he looked like before she should? If she knew him before she should? There was a very definite reaction that she'd had when he'd regenerated; and it was a look he intended to preserve. It was important that she have that reaction. That she know that she had to do so much of everything during that Christmas Invasion on her own. That she not have any spoilers: For a time there she thought he might die - and for all she knew he might.

Besides, knowing he was here without her, well, it would only lead to more questions. What had happened to her? Where had she gone? Why had he left her? Who was Donna? Who was Martha Jones? Who was Sarah Jane? What's this whole Torchwood thing? There were so many questions, so very many questions. So much that she just couldn't know, couldn't know at all. The Doctor had ihs work, and the work of his friends cut out for them.

Taking up a seat on the rocky car of the ferris wheel, the Doctor tapped his toes, waiting. They'd all need to know to know that he couldn't just be 'The Doctor' anymore. In enters Doctor John Smith. That's right, folks, in the flesh for as long as he had to be. Rose wouldn't be getting close enough to notice those double hearts in his chest; and she certainly wouldn't be hearing from him about their time in the TARDIS. Rubbing his brow the Doctor came to realize: this would be liike living with a ghost. Oi.

It was moreso than just the appearance of Nine that the Doctor wanted to discuss. He needed to talk to them about Rose.

"Right," he said in response to Ianto, smiling to Shannon as she huddled up beside him and giving a nod to Jack as he appeared. Good, they were all here, save Sarah Jane. Where was Sarah Jane? The Time Lord shook his head - best get this going there were bit's he'd just have to tell her about later.

"Well, firstly my previous regeneration is here. So, there's a second Doctor," he informed Ianto. "Slightly more importantly, Rose Tyler has turned up." He said this very factually, letting his tone sound like he was delivering a very sterile piece of information. "Ianto, I don't know if you know about Rose. Shannon, I've mentioned her. Jack..." the Doctor shook his head.

"In any event, long story short, she's from a point in time where she doesn't know who I am. Which means she can't know who I am. Ever. At all, Not a word, a hint, a whisper. The universe depends on this." He wasn't being dramatic, he was being factual. "So," he tried to force his smile a bit on the Cheshire side. "Doctor John Smith, at your service."

Nodding against Ianto's shoulder as she snuggled closer against him under both blankets now, Shannon sighed. "Yeah, I know. I'm sorry," she relented easily. Just because she'd talked to the Doctor about it and knew what they were going to discuss didn't mean Ianto did. If Ianto was here, then Jack and Sarah Jane would come around soon enough. And speaking of Jack, his voice prompted her to lift her head off Ianto's shoulder to look over her own to find the source. She smirked at him before turning her attention back to the Doctor and letting her head rest back down on Ianto's shoulder.

At the mention of Rose Tyler - the last name was unfamiliar, but the first name was - Shannon sat up straight again, grinning widely. She was pretty sure Rose was the woman he'd drawn in the journals. Shannon opened her mouth to ask a question and closed it again when the Doctor plowed onward. She could ask it in a minute; when he was finished. Her expression fell when he went on to say that Rose wouldn't know him and therefore couldn't.

Having to call him John Smith when she felt as though the New Guy should be calling himself that was frustrating the hell out of Shannon, but the Doctor had his reasons and she wasn't going to fight him. If that was what he wanted, she could do that.

"Is, um...she the one in the journal? I mean when you were sketching that time a while back?" she asked quietly, brow furrowing slightly in sympathy. His lost friend, Rose was, if she was indeed the girl from his drawing...it must be horrible even thinking that she was here and he couldn't tell her who he was. He wouldn't be able to pull her into a hug and kiss her in his excitement to see her. Shannon wanted to cry at the very thought of having to pretend she didn't even care if Sayid - or hell, anyone she'd met on the Island - was to show up and that was exactly what the Doctor was insinuating he'd have to do. "Where's Sarah Jane? Does she know?" she went on to ask. "I saw her a few hours ago, but that was before I saw your note or I'd have just brought her along with me..." she offered apologetically.

Two Doctors? Two of them? That ... two? One was more than enough!

When Jack turned up, Ianto tossed him a quick wink and a smirk, in spite of all the heavy goings on. And it felt like this was gearing up to be a heavy conversation. Turns out, he was right. And for a good reason, too.

"No, I don't know much about her, except that she's included on the memorial for Canary Wharf. I take it that you're talking about paradox here?" Ianto ruthlessly shut away the things that threatened to overwhelm him every bloody time he thought about Canary Wharf. Talk about unresolved pain. But, by this time, he was used to closing it off and nary a flicker showed on his face.

Still. John Smith? What a plain name. Ianto conveniently forgot that 'Ianto' was the Welsh version of John, so in essence, he was John Jones.
