Entry tags:!complete, day 15, shannon rutherford, the doctor (nine)

Who: The Ninth Doctor and Shannon
What: He wakes up, none-too-pleased.
Where: The Post Office
When: 12:16 PM, Day 15
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete

The Doctor had had a very trying day so far. First, he had to rescue Rose from the time vortex, thus killing his proper body and starting up a regeneration for a new one; then, the regeneration had been abruptly stopped and he'd ended up in a dark room with a strange girl; on top of that, it had turned out that the room hadn't been dark, he'd been blinded, and had been smeared with blood and pushed towards a fire; to make matters even worse, he and the girl had then been split up, and he'd been put with a man named Jim. And he wasn't even getting into that. That was a story for another time. And now, here he was, waking up on the dirty ground, next to.. a white building. He lifted a hand to rub at his head and slowly sat up, studying the structure a long moment before he saw the words 'Post Office' on it and the Doctor lifted his eyebrows curiously. Up onto his feet (with a dusting of his pants and jacket) and he was pushing his hands through his pockets again, as if to check once more for the Sonic Screwdriver that he knew wouldn't be there. At least it could have been replaced with a banana. He liked bananas. Bananas were good.

He pulled his hands from his pockets after finding nothing there and turned to look around. Clearly, he was in a town. A town that looked like it was out of the nineteen fifties. But how had he ended up here? And where was Rose? Blue eyes focused onto the clock tower looming only about fifty feet away, before he looked at the large building across from him and then around once again. There certainly was plenty of forest, but something in the air tasted funny. This wasn't going to be good at all. Whoever had been able to take him from his TARDIS, from his regeneration, and put him here, had to be pretty powerful. And pretty smart. But he'd been in worse scrapes before (had he really? .. Maybe not..) and he would get out of here. He just needed to figure out what was going on.

Blue eyes lowered again, taking note of his shoes. Oh, they were singed. He hadn't realized just how hot that fire was. He was going to need new shoes. But he'd need the TARDIS for that.. And it was then that he noticed the little survival box, crouching down next to it so he could have a look. "What have we got here?" He mused allowed as the water, then the socks, the matches and the book were all pulled out. Hm. Well, they were all tossed back into the box and he lifted it up, tucking it under his arm. That could come in useful, later. Now.. where to?

It was too damn cold for Shannon's taste when she woke up that morning. Again, with the cold. She hoped like hell that tomorrow wouldn't bring snow again, but she was going to be damn prepared if it was. So, after giving Sam a heads up where she was headed and fighting the hangover headache like a pro by taking another deep swig to finish off the very last of the schnapps he'd brought, Shannon pulled on her hoodie. Over that and her jeans, she wrapped the blanket tightly and headed out toward the thrift shop. Shannon figured, if she hit the thrift shop first and then walked down and around she could make stops at the pharmacy for more liquor and the gas station for snacks before circling back around to the museum. Sounded perfect to her.

By the time she was nearing the Post Office, she saw a man in the distance, outside the door, picking through one of the survival kits. The look about him would suggest, to Shannon, that he was new. Every time she saw new handwriting in the journals or heard a new name being discussed or saw a new face, her heart sank. Every day, new people; new victims. "Hey, newbie," she called out, approaching him with an apologetic smile. "Just wake up here, did ya?" Shannon felt badly for him already, if he had. If he'd been here a little longer, though, it wouldn't make any sense for him to be looking curiously through the kit the way he had been before he'd just closed it and tucked it under his arm.

"I'm Shannon," she offered once she was closer. She was a bit surprised by his looks. Clearly, he was older than a vast majority of the people she'd met here. Immediately, she wondered if he had a wife and children back home. He probably did. He looked like he was her dad's age...or however old her dad would probably be, if he was still alive. "Need some help getting around?" she asked, gesturing toward his kit. She'd dog-ear the page of the journal on which Cheryl had drawn up a map. That'd be her good deed for the day, she supposed.

He looked up abruptly when he heard the voice of another woman. It wasn't the woman from earlier, that woman had an accent, this woman decidedly did not, and her voice was lighter, airier, not the deeper near-growl that the other woman had. So there were a lot of people here, trapped as he seemed to be -- but he wouldn't be for long, he'd get himself out of here. He did smile though, grinning from ear to ear as she approached him. "Newbie? You get lots of new people just showing up in your town, then? Waking up like this? Maybe you could tell me where I am, then?" If this was her town, that was..

"Hello, Shannon. It's very nice to meet you," He repeated her name with another smile, lifting his eyebrows and nodded some. "I'm The Doctor. And yes, I think I could use a bit of direction. Maybe you could point me in the direction of your City Hall? I have a few questions I need answers to." And he was expect, of course, to be able to talk to some sort of city official. He wanted to know what sort of people where here. This girl, she looked human, but he didn't really imagine that this place was Earth, unless Earth had been taken over by-- well. No he wasn't going to jinx it by thinking about it.
