Entry tags:!complete, day 15, experiment, selene, the doctor (nine)

Experiment: Selene and The Ninth Doctor
Who: The Ninth Doctor and Selene
What: They're new and they're being experimented on. Think of it as a welcome to the wilderness moment
Where: Undisclosed location
When: 8:00AM
Rating: PG-13

Good morning, new arrivals!

The Ninth Doctor and Selene will awaken in an extraordinarily well lit room. However, your character and their fellow subject will not be able to see as they have been stricken blind. After 10 minutes a slow sing-song voice starts very quietly repeating "See no evil." "You can't see me." "Can you feel me?" The Doctor and Selene will immediately start feeling gentle brushes of wind around their face and any exposed skin. They will not be able to catch the responsible party.

Additional information about this experiment to be provided as play progresses.

With the woman standing at his back, the Doctor was much more pleased. Good. She knew how to take care of herself, she wasn't looking for his protection. That would make things a lot easier here. Thank goodness. He could feel her at his back as the hands began pushing and shoving, the blood splattered along his face and coat-- now that was just disgusting, and with a lick to taste it his face became a little grim. "It's human." The Doctor supplied grimly, even as the heat of the flame roared up.

And that was when he knew it wasn't darkness. It was his eyes. He couldn't see because something was wrong with his eyes. And those pushing, shoving, forcing hands were getting stronger, urging them towards the flames as the smoke shrouded him. Now, the Doctor could simply stop breathing, with that system of his, but he wasn't sure that this woman could, so he was shifting an arm back some. "Crouch, get low." An insisted command, as he began to crouch down. Not only would it keep them out of the smoke, which would rise.. but it would also give them something to brace against. It was harder to move a sitting figure than it was to move a standing one. And as the Doctor coughed, he spread his legs out some and allowed his bottom to hit the stone floor beneath him, hand reaching out towards the source of the heat instead of shying away from it. He wanted to know if it was a fire, an open flame. He'd find out pretty quickly, surely.

She was doing her damnedest not to think about the blood, even when it dripped from her sleeve to her hand and the scent of it made her fangs ache. Blind, with a fire to contend with, was no time to think about feeding. Selene wanted to lunge, to just go after this being or creature, whatever it was that was doing this. Her whole body was tense with the desire to fight, fight to the death if necessary.

At the words she dropped fluidly, enough left of her rational mind to recognize a good idea when she heard one. Other than a tinge of burn to her eyes, the smoke wasn't particularly bothering her. It was more the fire than the smoke, and the vampire wasn't thinking about running out of air. She didn't know if she could, in truth. If she made it out of this it would be something for her to ponder. Selene pressed her back to the Doctor's, hands flat on the floor a moment before she was reaching as far as she could both to the sides and in front of her, trying to stay aware for when the unseen hands started pushing again. It eased her panic a tiny bit that he was closer to the heat source than she, but not by much.

"Okay, I've found it." The source, that was. The real source, not just the direction it was coming from. He still didn't know what was creating the heat and, seemingly, the flame as well. "There it is, nothing to worry about." Yes there was. There was an open flame in a small room (it had to be small, with the way it was so quickly filling up with smoke) and there were rather strong, blood-covered hands trying to shove them at it. But the Doctor was nudging his elbow against her side. "Twist with me, Selene." Another calm, but firm order. He wanted her to know that he expected to be listened to, and thought the best thing right now, was to be firm. Panicked minds reacted better to confident orders. He knew that from experience. And he wasn't sure if she was panicking or not, but if he were in her position (he was in her position, wasn't he? Hah, that was funny..) he certainly would be.

"We're just going to turn here, clockwise. Scoot on your butt, use your hands." He was putting himself directly in front of that heat and drawing his legs up, spreading them to brace his shoes against the ground and keep himself from being pushed forward. This way, if they were pushed to the side, they wouldn't fall into the heat source.. and she would be there to protect him from being hit from behind, and he'd be able to protect her, as they had been doing earlier. Now they were safer, set up like this. Those hands would have to get pretty strong to force The Doctor into that heat.

"Do your best not to breathe in too much, cover your mouth with your hand if it starts to burn your lungs." Helpful! Doctor is Helpful! Really, where did he get this infinite wisdom? Cover your mouth to protect against smoke? Really? My, how the mighty had fallen. But really, he was only talking to try and keep her calm. If he fell silent, she could imagine all manner of things. He wanted to keep her mind focused on something, and if it had to be his voice, then so be it.

"Nothing to worry about?" she couldn't help but echo, though she knew what he was doing. Or at least trying to do. Trying to console a vampire about being trapped somewhere with a damned fire wasn't really possible. If she had been on her own she just might have been trying to find a wall to climb or break down, anything to get away from the heat. She went with his motions though, certainly not having any better ideas. At least one of them was thinking rationally. Later she would have to thank him for trying to block her from the fire.

She could feel him bracing himself and did the same, even if her heeled boots made it a little harder, though thankfully the leather of her trenchcoat provided far more traction against the ground than the rest of her clothes would. It didn't make her feel all that much better in truth as it only made it that much clearer how much danger she was potentially in. "My lungs are fine. My eyes burn a little but otherwise I'm fine." Would that change though? She hadn't needed to breathe while underwater, and hadn't found herself particularly out of breath any time she could remember. But she just didn't know about smoke and fire. Her mortal body was, after all, dead. "I'm more worried about the fire. And the blood." Selene wasn't sure why she was talking, perhaps because he was. And speaking of blood, the bit on her hand was starting to dry and stick to her skin, and it was getting harder to ignore the urge to lick it off.

"Nope, nothing to worry about, all taken care of." Well, he hoped it would be, anyway. And shortly, too. Because he could feel his shoes getting very, very warm. Nine hundred years of getting out of scrapes like this. He wasn't going to let himself go blindly (quite literally) into a fire with a young woman at his back. Not a chance. He was going to get her out, he was going to get him out, and he was going to find out who was behind this.

"Try your best to keep your eyes closed then, I know it'll be hard, Selene." He'd used her name to try and keep things personal, let her know that he remembered it, and that he was here. In fact, he was quite glad that she was talking to him in return. If her lungs weren't hurting, talking would keep her breathing, it would let him know that she was still okay, and it would help to calm his frayed nerves as well. Even a Time Lord could be a little concerned in situations like this. But he certainly wasn't letting it show.

"Don't worry about the fire, I've got that under control," Yeah, sure seemed like it, didn't it? "But if you hear me yelling for you to run," Which happened often, when you were around The Doctor, "Then I suggest you stand quickly and run away from the source of the heat. But I don't think that's going to happen. I think we're just fine." Even in saying all of that, he still sounded so confident. It was just his nature. He was a confident man. He had to be, to do the things he did. Saving worlds and universes and humanity and a multitude of other species, from aliens was hard work, and it took someone with know-how. Someone who was sure they could get the job done. And The Doctor had never failed before.

Except that one time. But he preferred not to think on that. Ever. Even though it was still so fresh in his mind.

"And the blood shouldn't hurt you. Try your best to wipe it off if you can," He imagined, of course, that she had some sort of blood-phobia... not that she wanted to lick it off of her. Then again, there was nothing stopping her. They were in the dark and the Doctor wouldn't know what she was doing behind him. She could give into her craving, if she really wanted to. As long as she didn't decide to finish up with a Doctor Dessert. He was sweet-tasting, yes, but he had no interest in becoming anyone's meal.

Her eyes were closed, for brief moments. It was hard to keep them that way when nearly every fiber of her being demanded a different type of action. But the fire wasn't surrounding them, at least not yet (don't think like that), so perhaps if they just waited here it would burn itself out and that particular danger would become moot.

She wanted to laugh at his remark about running but thought better of it. If they needed to run from something she would be more worried about him keeping up. Unless, of course, they found no door or other means of escape, in which case the running would be pointless. And was not a thought that kept her calm. Selene did laugh when he said the blood shouldn't hurt her. She really couldn't help it. "No, no, it won't hurt me." Quite the opposite really... unless it was poisoned. With what, she had no idea, but it was a thought. She raised her hand, imagining the sight. The dark red liquid thick and clinging to her pale skin, no longer fresh but not at all a concern. She hadn't had fresh blood since... well, since she bit Michael, but that hadn't been to feed.

Her unseeing eyes looked at the back of her hand and her tongue slid across her teeth, feeling the prick of her fangs. If she didn't do something the sensation would only continue to bother her. So she gave in to the familiar hunger that made her fangs ache, flicking her tongue across the back of her hand much the way a cat licked its paw. At the taste of the blood her eyes immediately shut and she pressed her lips together tightly as the bloodlust started to rise in her. It may have been a bad idea, but it did give her something to focus on other than the smoke and the fire.
