Entry tags:!dropped, day 13, jenny schecter, l lawliet, location: pharmacy/liquor store

Who: Jenny Schecter & L (Open to Laura possibly later on)
What: Walking, looking for Laura
When: Day 13: Mid-morning
Where: Pharmacy/Liquor store
Rating: PG-13ish for now (Jenny & her language...)
Status: Active

Jenny had been walking with her nose in the book for what seemed like hours. Whenever she talked with L, in whatever form it came, the conversation always felt like it was all-absorbing. She'd never known anyone who could engage her so completely the way he did. It was at once both terrifying and comfortable. How those two opposite emotions could co-exist, Jenny wasn't sure. The only thing she did know was she wanted to be sure she didn't fuck it up somehow.

Arriving at the pharmacy, she glanced up almost dazedly from the book and shut it. She tucked the journal into the small bag she'd found in the Thrift Shoppe. White and yellow stripes with cartoon ducklings dancing across the front was as good as it got in that place. She lamented, briefly, the lack of Rodeo Drive in this place. Though thinking about material comforts right now felt shallow.

This was not about being shallow now. She had to toughen up considerably if she was going to survive here. She wondered where Remy was then. When she'd talked to him she'd felt tough enough to handle this place. He brought out something feral and strong in her. She was disappointed he hadn't tried to find her yet in the journals or in person. But it was just as well. The Insider was no more. He was keeping her secret. That was all that mattered, wasn't it?

Quietly, Jenny pushed the door of the pharmacy open and slid inside. If Laura was indeed here, she didn't want to startle the other woman. If L was coming, she wasn't going to wait outside for him. She wanted to talk to Laura alone for a few minutes if she could. Talk some sense into the woman. For in Jenny's mind there just wasn't a way someone could be angry with L. Just couldn't be. Not after the way she'd seen him in the gym with his injuries, needing morphine so badly.

"Hello?" she called out. "Laura?" She picked her way through one of the aisles, eying the bottles of liquor with disinterest. "It's me, Jenny. Can we talk?"

"Neither one of us will die alone," she said with a slightly dull tone. Not alone but not -- what? She couldn't begin to fathom what her mind wanted to fill that blank with yet. She just knew it was important.

Jenny lifted a brow, scanning his face with curiosity. She could tell he wasn't telling her something. What it was she couldn't figure out. It didn't matter right now. They had all the time in the world to figure out the ins and outs of this and trust each other enough to say the things they needed to eventually. Until then, it wasn't something she needed to know so she nodded and cracked a partial smile when he said he wanted cake.

"That sounds absolutely decadent," she remarked with a more full smile. She set the napkins down, her fingers trailing the tiny airplane sized bottles of vodka and rum on the counter. Something about them appealed to her. She'd always liked miniatures. Travel size shampoo and toothpaste. She picked up one of the bottles filled with a golden liquid and held it up to her eye, looking through it at L.

"You shine like the sun," she said, a grin creeping across her face as she eyed the golden distortion and shimmer around him through the bottle for a moment longer before setting it back down again. "Whatever you really want, you will have. I predict it. I insist on it."

L, likewise, was at a loss to define that particular component of their existence. It both troubled and reassured him, and he both feared and welcomed it. It was different, and change scared him, but where people were concerned, he was learning that change could, in fact, be good.

But, yes, there would be time. For a while, at least.

L liked to see Jenny smile. She was very pretty, and something as universally flattering as happiness, even brief, quiet happiness, could only do her good. "You know. Devil's food. The rich, dark, heavy kind that makes you feel full after only a few bites.

He smiled sadly through Jenny's golden perspective, thinking briefly about making a joke. Something about beer goggles, but he decided that it would be inappropriate. "Not by myself," he said, shaking his head self-consciously, but who was he to complain if he helped one of Jenny's flights of fancy get off the ground? It was the least he could do for her, wasn't it? "Alcohol and the Sun... I must look like the very confused lovechild of Apollo and Bacchus."

"Mmmm," Jenny said with a slow nod, imagining the dark, chocolate hedonistic pleasure. Well maybe it wasn't as dramatic as all that but right now, considering she hadn't eaten a decent meal in days, L's cake sounded like heaven and she wished almost more than anything that she had some of it right now for both of them. Almost wished. She'd rather be out of this prison but if cake was the booby prize, she'd take it.

Jenny lifted a brow at his sad smild and almost frowned. "Dionysus would be proud to call you kin," she countered with an attempt at a playful smile. "I'm not backing down, you know. Whatever you desire, I'll make it happen somehow. I promise. Whatever I have to do. I'll see you happy. You have my word." Her voice was so solemn that anyone who paid enought attention could tell she meant what she said. Though it was difficult to say just how she, a mere human in the face of super- or supra- natural powers here in this place could manage such things. But she was determined in a way even she wasn't sure she understood.
