Entry tags:!dropped, day 12, kaylee frye, location: library, logan

Who: Kaylee and Wolverine
What: Reunion
When: Dusk (after their release from the experiment)
Where: near the ruins of the library.
Rating: R to start.
Status: Active

Logan had had a BAD day. Anyone that knew him well ... and admittedly, the closest he came to that here was Gambit ... knew he had a deep and abiding aversion for deep water ... and drowning.

So that whole 'room with no escape and water pouring in' thing ... yeah.

Hadn't made him a happy camper.

As a result, he was putting together some sort of shelter well away from where anyone else was sleeping. Just wasn't worth the risks. To that end, he was back at the library, sorting through the mess for usable bits and pieces. He mostly had enough together to make a lean-to braced against the section of theater wall nearest the library. At this point, he was just kicking shit around to vent his frustration.

"But yer okay now, right?" She had stopped only a couple feet away from where he continued to kick things for what looked like no reason other to get his anger out on an inanimate object. "Logan?" The brunette took another step forward, settling one hand on his arm and curling her fingers over his forearm. "You are alright now. Right?"

Here Kaylee was without her Crew, her family. Mal, 'Nara, Zoe, Wash, Jayne...well, Jayne... but she figured that the rules still applied. Even if she was sort of making up her own 'Crew' as she went along. You looked out for crew, made sure the others were okay, if they went missing you went and found them. And if someone tried to kill them or you, you tried to kill them right back. Although, usually, Zoe and Mal handled that part. With Jayne cheerfully throwing himself into the fray for the pure love of violence, money and whores.

Logan shrugged. "They didn't go so far as actually making us drown, so yeah, I'm fine."

Hah.

He did quit kicking things when she got close enough to actually put a hand on his arm ... mostly to keep her from getting hit by stuff if it popped up when he was kicking. "Mostly just pissed off. Assholes're playing with peoples' lives and treating it like a damn game." He shook his head. "I get to the assholes first, there ain't going to be a whole hell of a lot left for the rest of you to kick around when I'm done."

"Don't really answer my question much," Kaylee replied evenly, "Cept that last part. Ya don't always need to really meet death ta be shaken ta pieces for awhile by it." She knew that well, that when death even appeared to be coming after you, it could leave you shaken and not really knowing what to do.

At his angry statement, she nodded, before muttering, "Half sounds like the Alliance."

With her fingers and palm already on his forearm, her hand moved to rub along his skin in some sort of comforting movement. Instinctive and not particularly acknowledged consciously. Just trying to make him feel a bit better, or at least tell them both that they were both physically there. Which was not exactly a certainty in this place.

Logan snorted.

Force of habit. He generally didn't have anyone to talk heart-to-heart with ... and even if/when he did ... he was not much for exposing 'weaknesses'.

Especially not in a place like this. It went against the grain.

"Ain't shaken to pieces. Just fucking hate deep water. I got metal on my bones, Kaylee. I don't exactly float." Undertatement, much? Then he huffed, and draped an arm around her.

"Sounds like you got the same sort of first class assholes in your world I got in mine." He said.

"Ah," Metal bones would be a big hindrance in water, basic physics precluded that being any fun. "Could see how that'd be a problem." She still had no idea how far exactly his healing powers stretched to, she had only seen his fist after punching the gym, healing itself completely. But that had been something small. Drowning was a slow and painful way to die, which was why waterboarding was still an effective way to torture someone, even in her time.

As for his not wanting a heart-to-heart, she had no problem with that decision. You lived around soldiers who had been on the losing side of a war, and you learned quick as a flash not to poke and pry unless it was absolutely necessary. That way only lead to snapping and anger, more distance, not less.

She gave a nod as his arm went around her, "They'd be the ones in charge. Cap'n likes to say there are assholes on every world though, he don't always see the good in people."

Logan wasn't going to be the one to explain to her that it'd be "Groundhog Day from HELL" if he got thrown into water over his head.

"To put it mildly." Then he snorted again. "Yeah. Sounds like the sort that put the metal on my bones in the first place."

Then he pulled away a bit. "At any rate ... I was gonna set up a lean-to. Gimmie a hand? Goes quicker."

Or cut up the brains of girls to turn them into psychics with paranoid schizophrenia. Nasty individuals with too much money and power, running relatively uncurbed to do whatever they wanted with whoever they wanted.

She nodded, "Don't know much about building other than machines, but tell me what ta do and I can help."

"'spretty easy." Logan said. "Not like we're actually trying to build a building, after all." He bent to grab a good-sized section of erstwhile wall. "This for a floor, so if it rains I don't wake up covered in mud." He said. "That long section over there for the wall, so it's a lean-to like I had with the bookcase ... 'seasiest one to rig up quick. Stuff's just a bit awkward to manage alone." He glanced around. "And somewhere in here are the cushions and blanket, but hell if I can find 'em. Ahh well."

His instructions seemed clear enough, so Kaylee nodded literally rolling up her sleeves until they were clear to her elbows. Getting the fabric of your shirt caught on raggedy edges was absolutely no one's friend. Nope, nuh uh. "Okay, I can look for those, if ya can handle the smaller, heavier big stuff." The sections he pointed to looked heavier than she could wield by herself, but she could definitely try to scrounge for the smaller, softer things. "Then come back to help ya move the awkward-er things."

It took some doing, getting inside the library, avoiding debris and large chunks of the ceiling/roof had to be scrambled over. The mechanic searched for anything that could be saved by way of cushiony things, and managed to located the 'nest' in one corner, mostly crushed by various things, then piled with books. Some tugging, some soft grunting, some planting her foot on a not-so-sturdy wall, and she pulled the blanket free. "Gonna have to shake this out," she muttered as she did so a little, before putting it over her arm, knowing it could be done outside.

Only two cushions were really in any shape to be helpful, the others smushed into piles of fluffy nothingness. Like exploded chickens.

Kaylee made it back after a few minutes had passed, oddly considering time of the essence. Breathing a little harder, with some debris dust in her hair. And two cushions and one blanket in her arms.

Kaylee taking off into what was left of the library gave Logan a few moments to try and get a better grip on his rather frayed temper. By the time she came back out, he was, if not back to 'normal', then a couple of degrees less pissed and definitely making a concerted effort to /look/ normal.

"Thanks, doll." He said, then wrestled the biggest chunk of erstwhile wall into place. The end result was a space very much like the one he'd had inside the library, except now it was outside. (not that the library had been very 'insidish' to begin with).

"You wanna hang out here tonight? I know we arranged for you to hang with me, but what with one thing and another, you never got the chance to bring your shit over here."
