Entry tags:!complete, day 12, insider, location: underground tunnels, remy lebeau, the doctor (ten)

Day 12: 2nd Meeting
Who: Insider & Remy LeBeau [open to The Doctor at some point maybe?]
What: 2nd Meeting
When: 1pm
Where: The tunnels under the gas station
Rating: TBD
Status: Complete

It wasn't as easy to make it into the tunnels in the daylight. It required some sort of diversion because there was no way someone wouldn't notice the Insider creeping away from the group. Especially not with the perception that had been given as to the nature of the injuries suffered during the earthquake. It was difficult too to climb down the ladder once privacy had been attained and the trap door opened into the floor of the back room of the building. Injuries were still evident even if not as severe as they'd been played out to be.

In the alcove down two turns away from the ladder, the Insider found and donned the shapeless black jacket. Slipping the mask and night vision goggles from inside the pockets, they were slid into place and adjusted to ensure no hair or any other distinguishing features were evident. The Insider didn't trust Remy not to be there with a light of some sort this time. Now that things had been planned in advance through the journals. It was a risk to go and see him but that was something the Insider was willing to deal with.

Creeping through the darkness was a chore as the medication for pain wore slowly off. It would have been better had this taken place after medication rounds but there was no helping it. The gas station was close by and the Insider stopped short, waiting and listening around the bend from the suggested rendez-vous spot. Breath was held for a long moment before finally speaking in the low, growl of the previous meeting. "Cajun man. Charmer. Are you there?"

Remy watched him step away, lifting his eyebrows some when the Doctor made no comment about the fact that he'd made it very clear the Time Lord was still stuck with him, whether he liked it or not. The smile remained simply in place, but the nod and the way his eyes lowered once, then back up, was enough to say that he'd realized he'd really screwed up whatever it was that they'd built between them. It had taken hard work and emotion to build it, and one stupid mistake to wreck it completely.

And that was exactly what the Thief had done.

"Oui. I feel grea'." The reply came without strain in his tone and without hesitation. There'd be none of that. Gambit wasn't willing to lay that out on the table, knowing the Doctor would only stare at it, then dismiss it just as quickly. However, the knowledge of that certainly wasn't deterring the demon-eyed creature across from him any. He could take a lot of abuse without batting an eye. He always had and he always would, and he often came back like a kicked puppy. Not because he felt any sense of loyalty and not because he wanted forgiveness, or love, or anything of the sort. It was simply because he had no where else to go and nothing else to do. He hadn't done it for years, but here he was.

And he was smiling right through it, all charm and grace and ego. "My cake go' burn'. Had a cake." He didn't anymore, and he was clearly mourning it, as he lowered his eyes to look down into the tunnel. There were other things he'd rather say, other things he'd rather do, other things he'd rather feel, but that remorse for the cake and the little quip about it was all that came out. They didn't have time for it, and the Doctor didn't have patience for it. Maybe later. Probably never. Remy would push it away into the pile and claim he forgot about it, and never bring it up again, no matter how badly he wanted to.

As a matter of course, the Doctor didn't make a habit of kicking people. He found that people generally kicked themselves more than he could ever dream to and in ways more harsh than he would ever dare. He had a feeling that the mutant was doing just that.

The Doctor felt for certain that Remy wasn't feeling great. He shouldn't be. Though, the liar would just be left with his lie. The Doctor didn't have the energy to coddle. Not right now, anyway. He didn't have the will to kick either. So, he let the silence run it's course until Remy went on about his cake. Which only made the Doctor shake his head with a squinch of the skin between his brows.

Oh bugger it.

He couldn't be cruel. He wouldn't be cruel. Not to a friend as loyal. The Doctor looked over his shoulder before deciding that his path ought to take him right in front of his friend. He had to walk that way.

"Come on, we need to get to the carnival for some more bolts." He reached out, patting Remy on the bicep as he went on. It was clear enough to the Doctor that Gambit felt foolish enough as it was. No point in putting salt in the wound.

Gambit was relieved when the Doctor finally spoke up and he lifted his head, looking away from the tunnel, and locked his eyes onto the Doctor, as the man began walking. And when that hand impacted with his shoulder in a pat.. that was when he felt it. He felt a little dizzy at first, then blinked his eyes a few times to clear his vision, but it didn't work.

"Docteur--" Was all he managed to get out before his legs gave out beneath him and he collapsed bonelessly to the ground outside the post office.

The Doctor was three steps away before Gambit had said his name. Turning quickly he managed to catch just in time the collision of Gambit's body with the ground. Three steps. One. Two. Three. The Doctor couldn't help but feel like he was moving in slow motion as he came up beside the Cajun.

"Remy? Gambit?" He asked, his words coming slow now, too. Oh no, he managed to think, realizing that systems were shutting down. First movement. Now speech. And now the Doctor was falling as well, landing in a crumpled heap beside his friend.
