It had been a day of ups and downs for the Doctor. He'd encountered someone new,  a pair of old friends, and enjoyed the company of the motley crew that the person behind the curtain had assembled while they tried to make right the barn's structure. It was going to be work to get that last bit done; though, the Gallifteyan had no doubt at all that they would accomplish their goals. Natural optimist, he couldn't help it.

For now he'd let his aspirations settle upon the first task of setting up shelter then he'd turn his attention where it really belonged: on the people encamped in the glass bubble. The impossible glass bubble. The excrutiating glass bubble. As he continued to let his mind set on the difficult the Doctor's features became harder and harder. All the talk he'd had with Jack and Sarah Jane had faded to the back of his mind. At the front was an impossible bubble and some handwriting that claimed responsibility. his jaw set as he took a deep breath. He couldn't get his attention off it.

Kicking a stone down the street with the museum at his back he continued in the direction of the gym. Each passing structure caused the Doctor to sink more and more into the pits of fury. He hadn't been this angry in a very long time. He'd been able to lock it away far too easily with Rose there to temper him. Who would temper him here? Who would remind him of what was important? What was important?

The gym was quiet. The world around the gym was still. Rain had paused for a few moments and the Doctor found himself in a chilled wind in the growing dark. It was all he could do to breathe. He wanted to storm through the town, and break it apart until he figured out how it all worked and understood all this place's secrets. He wanted to find the fool behind the word play in the journals and teach them what captivity truly meant.

The Doctor only stared at the road, willing his mind to still.

A ghost of a smile appeared on Shannon's face. "Well, the way he tells it, that tree nearly killed you and he saved your life," she said with mock seriousness. She hadn't believed a word of it and even as she tried to recount it to the Doctor, she couldn't keep herself from grinning slightly in spite of herself.

"Yeah, he went in to get my bag for me so we could have something to eat," Shannon explained. "And he came out with your coat and some paintings while he was at it." She was almost tempted to ask, actually, about the sonic modulator, but she didn't really see the point. If the earthquake hadn't sent the glass walls shattering around them, she highly doubted that the Doctor's project would've been able to break them. It was probably nothing more than a heap of trash by now, anyway.

When the Doctor grinned and said that Sarah Jane was all right, Shannon gave him another small, grateful smile and nodded. "Good, I'm glad," she said. The more people that she knew that were still in one piece, the better. All that she needed now was to find Domeki and she'd be all set. The sooner, the better, too.

As he went on about Sarah Jane, his eyes moved downward. Something about his body language told Shannon that perhaps the Doctor was more affected by the whole thing than he was willing to admit...or maybe than he even really realized. It wasn't really Shannon's place to say, though, so she simply nodded to herself and tucked her hair behind her ear with one hand. Once again, she looked over at the gym almost expectantly and then her eyes were cast downward again. "Jack and Ianto are good to go, from what Jack said," she revealed, unsure whether the Doctor had run into either or both of them since. "And Sam and Dean," she tacked on for good measure.

She didn't like to allow herself to think on and bring up Bob's death again, so she refrained from mentioning it. That in and of itself made her feel guilty. Like Bob's death was a dirty little secret she was trying to keep, or something, when really that wasn't the case at all. Somehow, she thought that the Doctor would appreciate her not bringing up that tidbit, anyway.
