It had been a day of ups and downs for the Doctor. He'd encountered someone new,  a pair of old friends, and enjoyed the company of the motley crew that the person behind the curtain had assembled while they tried to make right the barn's structure. It was going to be work to get that last bit done; though, the Gallifteyan had no doubt at all that they would accomplish their goals. Natural optimist, he couldn't help it.

For now he'd let his aspirations settle upon the first task of setting up shelter then he'd turn his attention where it really belonged: on the people encamped in the glass bubble. The impossible glass bubble. The excrutiating glass bubble. As he continued to let his mind set on the difficult the Doctor's features became harder and harder. All the talk he'd had with Jack and Sarah Jane had faded to the back of his mind. At the front was an impossible bubble and some handwriting that claimed responsibility. his jaw set as he took a deep breath. He couldn't get his attention off it.

Kicking a stone down the street with the museum at his back he continued in the direction of the gym. Each passing structure caused the Doctor to sink more and more into the pits of fury. He hadn't been this angry in a very long time. He'd been able to lock it away far too easily with Rose there to temper him. Who would temper him here? Who would remind him of what was important? What was important?

The gym was quiet. The world around the gym was still. Rain had paused for a few moments and the Doctor found himself in a chilled wind in the growing dark. It was all he could do to breathe. He wanted to storm through the town, and break it apart until he figured out how it all worked and understood all this place's secrets. He wanted to find the fool behind the word play in the journals and teach them what captivity truly meant.

The Doctor only stared at the road, willing his mind to still.

"Well you know, just an encounter with a tree. I'd say I came out a fair amount better than it," Well, a tree branch to be more specific. The branch was now lying quite dead on the forest floor. He'd twinged his back, but it wasn't like he'd lost a limb. Or died.

"Gambit?" The Doctor shook his head. He should have known. That funny Cajun did seem to have a way of coming across things. He wondered if the modulator was as poorly off as he'd expected and that was why the mutant hadn't grabbed it, too. A week's worth of work (on a project that should have only taken a couple of days) ruined. What a shame. However, if the Doctor looked disappointed he masked it well. He was good at showing a quiet aloofness around friends when he knew they were hurt; it wouldn't do to have a flailing Doctor about in a time of crisis, would it?

"Sarah Jane?" The Doctor grinned, his old friend was good for bringing that reaction out in him. That and a quiet peacefulness. He liked that about her. "Saw her this morning, she didn't seem too badly off." Though, where his friend had wound up? He imagined it was the gym. She'd fit in well there, taking care of people, organizing, making sure no one was neglected. She had the mind for that sort of work.

"Though, something tells me it would take more than an earthquake to knock Sarah Jane Smith off of her barings." He nodded firmly, his attention going to the ground. The quake, however, had knocked him off of his. He didn't like that.
