In a way, Elliot was glad for the distraction of a natural disaster. Not that she would ever wish the pain and suffering that she was seeing now on anyone, but at least it gave her something to do and took her mind off the fact that she'd woken up in this strange place. She didn't really know what it meant. Part of her wondered if she'd been hit by a bus somewhere and was sleeping away a coma, incorporating the names and things around her into this nightmare. Part of her wondered if maybe years of stress had finally gotten to her and caused her to have a psychological break from reality. Was she in a padded room somewhere? She'd often secretly thought maybe she belonged in one, but she thought it would be a lot more peaceful than this place. She was supposed to be walking around in fluffy white slippers and doing crossword puzzles and eating the standard issue cherry jello, not making rounds the best she could in a makeshift hospital with too little supplies and doctors.

Once she and Lexie had reached the main gym and she'd found that Kim and Andy had been badly hurt she'd set to trying to help as many people as she could. It wasn't easy, especially when more and more people kept flooding into the gym with varying degrees of injuries. Considering that both of the other doctors had been hurt enough where they were limited on what they could perform, Elliot had been somewhat relieved at the fact that her injury was minor. She'd dressed the wound and then rolled up her sleeves to see what could be done.

Four hours had passed quickly but she was starting to feel their effects as she moved to the next cot in line, ripping out a piece of paper from her journal and poising her pen over it to write down injuries and notes. Her feet were killing her, her side still ached, her head was throbbing and her shoulders were sore from lifting the shelves off Lexie. She rolled her neck, her eyes landing on the next patient. Male, mid twenties, broken arm, possibly broken or burnt hands, she wrote on the piece of paper. She looked up and met his eyes, giving him a small smile. "I'm Dr. Reid," she said, still clinging to her title and what little separation from her patients that she could. She wasn't even sure if they were real people and if they were it meant that this place was all that much more real. Better to stick with the scripts.

She looked over his splint and wrapped hands. "Where does it hurt?" She asked, glancing back down at the piece of paper in front of her. "And what happened to your hands?"

Had he known his recitation of her name'd had such an affect on the doctor, he might have said more to her as she walked away. Perhaps tossed a couple flirtatious words about missing her while she was gone. Something like that. It'd take the sting out of his hands and give him something else to focus on. Well and if he was honest he would've enjoyed that exchange too.

As it was, he watched her walk away, seeing the sway of her hips and the swish of her hair against her back as positive distractions from what he was feeling. He'd always been pretty good at mind over matter but he was even better at it when he had the motivation of a pretty girl and the promise of her return shortly to smile at him some more.

Did she just look back at him? He almost winked at her but she was tripping so he averted his gaze. It would just be embarrassing for her to know he'd been looking when she'd done that. He'd seen that plenty of times in his life. It wasn't really something new. A lot of girls found themselves clumsy when he was around. Maybe that wasn't her deal but he was only going to believe it was. Made him feel good to know he still had it, even with broken hands and what not.

"I did!" Had she read his mind? When she got back she asked if he'd missed her and considering he'd thought about teasing her with that it was a little uncanny but he smiled. In fact, he grinned and did wink at her again. It was sort of cheesy but maybe she'd forgive him considering the state of his broken bones.

"You mean, what's my job when I'm not stuck in glass bubbles? Circuit Rider. Usually I have my collar but I landed here naked as the day I was born." Where had that silly southern accent come from? Was he slurring his words? Yeah, see that was why he hated medication except he was starting to feel better so he grinned some more at her. "What do you do when you're not repairing desperados in disrepair?" Desperados? Disrepair? Damn drugs!

Pinching her cheeks had turned out to be a useless move, considering the fact that Dean saying he missed her worked to warm her cheeks even more. She flashed him a big smile before testing the needle. He winked at her and she felt her heart melt a little in her chest. "Good," she said, ducking her head as she concentrated on administering the shot.

"Circuit rider?" Elliot repeated doubtfully. "As in the rodeo? And what do you mean you showed up here naked?" The mental image of Dean working up a sweat wearing some kind of cowboy get up and then being replaced with the thought of a naked Dean was a little more than she could take. "I'm glad I didn't," she said, trying to concentrate on the conversation at hand instead of getting lost in a pointless daydream.

She reached out and tilted his chin upwards, watching his eyes. "How you feeling, cowboy? Those drugs kicking in?"
