Entry tags:!complete, day 10, location: museum, remy lebeau, shannon rutherford

Who: Shannon and Remy
What: Gambit eventually makes his way back to the museum.
Where: The museum
When: 1826 - Day 10
Rating: PG13 - Just in case
Status: Complete

Gambit had left the museum just an hour and a half ago, having backed off when Sam had shown up to watch over Shannon. But the Cajun had stared a while at the Post Office, before walking around to look at the carnage of the town, then he'd stood and stared at the felled clock tower for a while. Eventually, he'd left it and had headed back to the museum, for the items he'd been planning to get in the first place. Sam had, for all intents and purposes, chased him off that first time. So he had never got the chance to explore the museum. He was going to go looking for the Doctor's jacket, the Doctor's journal, and a few of those paintings. Definitely a few of those paintings. Then he was going to get the Hell out of this place.

However, when he approached the museum, he was surprised to find that Shannon was still there, and with Jack Harkness, no less! Jack, though, after an easy greeting, had left to do things that needed to be done, and Gambit was once again left babysitting the injured girl. The aftershocks were still shaking the ground every now and then, so going inside wasn't a wise idea on anyone's part, so he avoided the steps leading up to the museum and came back over to Shannon to stand in front of her, hands pushed down onto the pockets of his jacket. He'd wear that thing the rest of his life. Really.

"You still look tire', Chere. How your side feelin'?" His smile was easy, as it always was, and he tilted his head to the side, hair falling into his face.

"Good luck with that," Shannon replied dryly. No way in hell was Gambit going to find what he was looking for if a bed with silk sheets was what he was seeking out. He'd do better to get comfortable right where he was, she thought but didn't say.

Her eyes narrowed at Gambit as he went on. "I know more about Jack than I'm telling," she snapped; it was true but she hadn't intended on saying as much until he'd all but prompted her to. "And the Insider's fucking full of shit," she added bitterly. It sounded to Shannon like Gambit was trying to insinuate that Jack could be the Insider. No. The Insider wouldn't have saved her life just to put her back in peril; what was the fun in that? She could've died or been hurt far worse than she was and then what? Then how would he tease her if she couldn't write back to him? How would he peep on her when she was doing private things with others or alone only to taunt her about it later if she was dead? And Jack? No. The Doctor trusted Jack and Shannon trusted the Doctor, so, by extension, she held Jack in a very high regard.

"Yeah thanks for the advice," she said with sarcasm saturating the words as she looked awy from him. If her side didn't still ache, she'd move all together. Who the hell did he think he was, anyway, coming around and eyeing her the way he had been; kissing her without asking if he could and now insulting her friends? Fuck this guy, she thought, and wished that Sam would hurry up and come home. ...well, come back, since the home she'd built with him was completely destroyed.

"Calm down, 'Chere. You know more 'bou' him 'den you say, I believe you. Ain' mean to upse' you now, you all bang up an' injur', don' wan' get you all rial' up. Was jus' askin'. 'Das all. C'est bien." He was still watching her, though she'd looked away from him. "Maybe one 'de o'ters, non? Anyone you t'ink migh' be doin' 'dis?" Well, that had failed.. for the most part. But he'd gotten his point across, it really could be anyone. Even the Doctor -- though Gambit was going back and forth on whether it could be the Doctor or not. Everyone else, aside from Shannon, was fair game.

"Don' get mad." He moved a hand over then to pat at her knee, more as a way to gain her attention than to comfort, or try to be fresh. In fact, it was the farthest from being fresh that Gambit could manage. Low enough on her leg that it wasn't intrusive, and it wasn't a slide, or a grip. It was just a pat, once, then twice, before he removed his hand all together. "Jus' tryin' do figure 'dis ou', non? 'Das why I ask. You know 'dese people better 'den me. Was lookin' for your help, not t'turn you 'gains' anyone. D'accord?"

That said, he was lifting his hand again and tucking it behind his head in the grass, leaving his bad arm down at his side, hand resting on his tanktop-covered abdomen. It was nice, not wearing that tanktop.. it had been a little warm. But no way was he taking off his coat again. Not after the Doctor nearly lost his.
