Day 10: Museum - 1:15pm
Who: OTA
What: Seven point five
When: 1:15pm - 5:00pm
Where: the Museum
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

The sun was shining high in the sky and a gentle breeze stroked the leaves of the trees, making them, along with the severed stub of rope on the clock face from the day previous sway lazily. It was quiet. Perhaps it was too quiet, for the lack of birds chirping or insects buzzing.

All in all, the day was one of the most pleasant as of yet for the bulk of the involuntary residents of Vas Captio, save, of course, the heat. Maybe it was a bit too hot to be entirely comfortable.

It started small, as most things do. A few of the sculptures rattled against the glass displays encasing them and the loose windows in some of the rooms jittered anxiously in their frames. The floor seemed to wiggle gently but then, all was quiet and immobile again.

As if to protest the stillness of the museum, a great angry shudder rumbled through the foundation. Some of the wooden floorboards seemed to shoot upward as they snapped in half or into pieces, jutting up from the floor. The whole building dropped down as its weak foundation crumbled beneath it, creating the sensation of a very short elevator drop. Glass shattered loudly, throwing about shards sharp as knives and raining them down into the floors or walls as if tossed by a knife-thrower. The doors of the multiple rooms flew open, some ripping off their hinges entirely and others being slammed angrily shut again when large display cases made of wood and metal were thrown against them.

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the place as displays were destroyed completely sending still more shards of what remained everywhere, creating somewhat of a death trap, especially in the main lobby where the bulk of the displays remained. That sound was skewed until it was nearly drowned out completely as the roar of metal supports trying to hold and failing came to fruition and the entire building's worth of ceiling space collapsed in. Some of the doorways managed to hold up - those in which the doors were jammed in place by felled display cases - while others caved in under the weight of the falling debris and the loss of structure when the museum dropped from its foundation to the ground a few feet below. Almost as quickly as everything began, the movement dropped away.

Vas Captio was still, again, and silent once more.

Jenny & OTA

Jenny had fallen silent after Jack's admonishment. Hearing his voice suddenly made everything seem a little less frightening. Her heart slowly made its way out of her throat and she forced herself to take long, deep breaths to calm herself even more. She was going to be as still as possible so that they could get her out.

All at once the pressure against her legs was relieved and she gasped out in pain as blood began rushing into the area again. As he leaned toward her, she clung with her arms around Jack's neck, careful not to cut him with the glass still lodged into her face. "Thank you, Jack. Oh thank you." She nodded and did not move at all except to wiggle her toes. It hurt like a bitch but she wanted to be sure she could do it. She hoped she was actually doing it but she couldn't see so she couldn't tell.

Once Jenny was free, Ianto rolled away from the rubble so that the other ladies could lower it to the ground again. Then, he lowered himself to the ground rather close to the would be patient to look over her quickly. "We need to get out of here before the rest of this place comes tumbling down. Anyone see anything they want to take?" He could stash it in his sling, he reasoned. "Miss, do you think you can walk? At least out into the open?"

Sarah was glad she wasn't levering the debris by herself. This last piece was heavier than she'd expected, and she wouldn't have been able to shift it without Ripley's or Ianto's help. She felt her muscles strain, but didn't let up on her efforts until Jack had pulled the girl free. As soon as Ianto had let go, Sarah glanced at Ripley and lowered the piece down. Letting go of it all at once might end up damaging the building further.

She sagged a bit where she stood, using the bit of floor as a cane, and took a few deep breaths. When Ianto spoke, she nodded, agreeing with his assessment. "Is there anything here we need to bring for you?" she asked, looking down at the girl. She made sure she still had her journal in the pocket of her jacket as she spoke. After something like this, the easiest way to get hold of people would probably be the journals.

At least Jenny had listened to him. That was the most important part. He watched her carefully, waiting until she had pulled herself together enough to start looking her over. He let Sarah and Ianto take control of the situation in that regard, ignoring the unknown woman for the time being. Jack took charge and that's simply how he rolled.

He reached into a pocket as best as he could, withdrawing a handkerchief and carefully blotting some of the blood from Jenny's face. He didn't want to move the glass for fear of injuring her further. "We need to get you to the gym where the doctors are." He looked at her, frowning further. "I can carry you but I don't know if that's better on you to be held or to walk. Can you feel your feet?"

"We really should carry her on something flat." Ripley said as she let the rubble back down. "I don't know about the three of you, but I'm no doctor to be accurately figuring out what all's gotten hurt, and she /did/ have half a wall land on her. Better safe than sorry."

People could do crazy thing in an emergency, despite being badly injured, only to collapse later, Ripley knew. Hell, Hicks had somehow managed to keep going until they got to the drop ship despite taking acid to the chest and face. In this case, it just wasn't worth risking having the gal try to walk, when none of them knew for sure what all had been damaged when the wall fell on her.

"I can wiggle my toes but I don't know if I can walk. I guess I can try," she said truthfully in a tremulous voice.

Jenny looked up at Jack and the other unfamiliar faces around her. It was overwhelming and she wanted to just close her eyes. Instead she looked back at the rubble behind her, grateful that the table had taken the majority of the crashing debris from her. If she hadn't been sitting beside it, she would have probably been dead. Not a great thought. Tears sprang into her eyes again and she sniffed hard to keep them from falling.

Jenny focused on the older woman as she asked about her needing anything. "I don't know," she said with wide, moist eyes.

She nodded to Jack's question. She could feel her feet even if her legs felt like they'd been compressed into pancakes. She didn't even want to look down and see the damage.

Oh, bollocks. The unknown lady was right. Well. The unknown lady who didn't have a wall fall on her. Ianto bit at his lip and looked around at the wreckage, trying to see if there was anything they could use. "Think there's a table or something around here, ma'am? You're right, we need to keep her still and flat." But what with one thing and another, Ianto sort of forgot his first aid training.

Silly boy.

Carrying it was going to be a bitch, too, that table. Or wide planks. Anything. Gingerly, he began to poke through the mess, mindful of where it all was and how it lay, to keep it from shifting any.

"Is there any rope left from the hanging tapestries? We could tie some of the floorboards together if we need to, or rig up a harness so we can pull her along the ground on a board once we get out to the street," Sarah Jane suggested. She glanced around, hoping to see something that would make do. She didn't know how everyone else was feeling, but she wasn't sure she could carry anyone right now. Jack would probably be able to, but one person wasn't enough to carry her.

"Steady on," she said to Jenny, smiling kindly at her. "It'll be all right in the end. She reached out to brush a stray bit of hair back from the girl's face, careful not to get anywhere near the glass in her cheeks. "Do you have any personal effects here? Any medicines?" Not that they'd be easy to find in all the rubble, but if there were something she needed, they at least needed to know to come back later and dig through all the debris.
